When many people think of Sealegs amphibious boats, they imagine something like the original 6.1-metre RIB that kicked off the range in the mid-2000s - something smallish to buzz about in then drive back up the beach to the boatshed. But the concept, and the company, has come a long way in the last 20 years, and the latest craft to hit the water sets a new standard in terms of what an amphibious alloy RIB can be.

I can afford this and have a perfect beach front home for a SL boat. I contacted SL to purchase but no one contacted me back, is this even a real company?

Sounds typical for an engineering led company. Sales, marketing, design (probably finances too...) all thought of as necessary but annoying evils. If you really want one, I suggest phoning them.

Expected more bathroom! That aside, the idea of a coastal cruiser that can overnight on the beach is amazing. Hopefully we see more and bigger boats in this category. With proper bathrooms!

1,200 hp and 8 tons, its gotta do more than 50 knots, I would think 60+

Military and Police should adopt this sort of quick reaction shore to sea to shore boat for the seal teams and covert response.

Cool you can drive to the gas station to buy petrol as there are very few and far apart wharf facilities that have petrol as you circumnavigate New Zealand.

That's a gas hog though. Twin V12 engines burning over 31 gal an hour at 40 knots. That's almost as much as my friends P-51 airplane does.

Very good, the boat is very complete with all the advanced features. One unit if we buy it in Indonesia, the total will be several senior dollars.

A Rolls Royce would be cheaper. So then why doesn't RR make a car for the middle class?

@markspahr242 Because Rolls-Royce is Rolls-Royce. But look at a company like Mercedes or since this is a boat let's talk boat companies like SeaRay or Bayliner. Those companies make many different models with different trim levels for different price ranges. This is a boat company. Oftentimes, boat companies make different classes of boats to fit different budgets. Does a company make less money on a smaller or lesser trim model. Yes but they also put less money into it. Making some money is better than making no money. As a business owner and contractor myself that is my motto. Keep the schedule full taking as many jobs as possible even the smaller money jobs. Compound math adds up and you make money. Cheers!

Amphibious boats are inherently a luxury boat. They will always be massively more complex than a regular boat, and more expensive too. A middle class amphibian would have to be about the size of a P class dingy.

That is a beautiful vessel you Kiwis really are excelling at building TOUGH and sleek boats!. Putting Aussies on notice. On a funny note I just finished watching "Far North" on Stan and couldn't help but laugh at the beach launch scenes🤣. Something allot of people might not realise it's just the way you have to launch in allot of places in NZ. Love ya work Boating NZ!
