Any update on the sealants johnny, we have not yet used any and we just had to replace a patio for a customer who put a sealant down on there paving as the water would just sit on it and was very slippery. But i do think a sealer that works would be good as customers do always ask us about them and upto now we avoid them as nervous if we have any issues with it. Appreciate your input. Thanks Sean

@@GreentopLandscapes Ok would love to hear what he has to say about the sealants as every job we do lately customers are asking about them. i think if one would do exactly what is says on the tin and also they stand by there product landscapers would be more incline to use them. Cheers Sean

I had a patio just made with grey sandstone. It was not sealed and not told anything about that...I just found out myself after seeing the patio looking really dirty in a short time. A sandstone patio that has already been stained, mainly by bird droppings, can be recovered and sealed? Or is it too late? The patio was laid about 4 weeks ago
@GreentopLandscapes3 жыл бұрын
No its not to late it can be sealed and cleaned

Hi bud, just about to lay a limestone patio at my house, laid a lot of sandstone in the past on various jobs but never limestone, just wondered if there was any difference in sealing it after and also as it’s now winter is it best to leave it a while before sealing? Or when is usually best? Thanks

I’ve always been told to wait for the salts to expel before sealing otherwise you seal the salts in as well. This is often months down the line.

Really appreciate you giving some clarity on sealing. I had a dark grey sawn, honed sandstone patio and steps laid and then sealed with the sealant recommended by the contractor’s stone merchant (a water-based, impregnating sealant). Within a month the sealant had failed, with some areas peeling off and other areas with milky blotches as well staining pulled through from the pointing. The contractor used a hot pressure washer and a lot of it came off, and then I tried a chemical cleaner recommended by a stone specialist. That was 2 years ago and the paving, which was Around £70-80 a square metre, still looks terrible and I haven’t been able to re-seal it so it’s not protected from other stains or pot marks etc. To be honest, I think it’s wrecked for good. But I have a fair bit of the sandstone left over (which I am going to try and superficially re-hone as it’s a bit battered from being shifted around the garden) and am planning to lay it in another area but have been struggling to get the right information about how to pre-seal and with what and you get different advice from every person you talk to. So it’s been great to find your channel, thanks very much!

Did you find out which sealer to use? I've got smooth sandstone
@pg4246 Жыл бұрын
@@juliemcintyre1713 I used Ecoprotec Stone & Tile Intensive Cleaner which was OK but to be honest no better than standard products. Then I used LTP Mattstone H20 on it but I hardly noticed a difference from a protection point of view. I really wanted something to darken the colour slightly (I bought dark grey honed sandstone and in reality it is light grey/green) but nothing really made a difference there either. So I just pressure wash and scrub it a few times a year and it looks fine. Good luck! :0)

I would make the client aware of the pros and cons to seal or not to seal. Thats their choice John, if they want something to stay looking new, they have the option to use those alternative products that are available 🤷🏻♂️ Personally if I have to lay sandstone, I would always like to seal it once laid to a matt satin finish

Always insist on sealing especially if trees and bird droppings are inevitable , bird shit acid bites into the stone and is very difficult to remove. And it promotes maintenance, so often we do lovely jobs for people that don’t look after it and a sealer at least prolongs the lack of maintenance !!
