I worked for them 88-95, initially at Sea Containers House in Blackfriars and then at Charter House in Ashford after the Stena takeover in 91. I had a wonderful time working in retail I.T. across many of the vessels in the fleet. After the Stena takeover I worked on the reservation system for several years. Fond memories of the old British Rail culture, ships and many of the old characters before the Stena takeover. Stena had a far more professional culture than the Sealink happy-go-lucky attitude, the Stena ships were better quality, better maintained and operated more safely. From what I can tell, Sea Containers were delighted to sell Sealink for top dollar, they had stripped a lot of the value out of Sealink by then and weren't really interested in running the company for the long term.

As a kid I used to go to Ireland with my family for the holidays with both Sealink and B&I. I always preferred B&I, same today I prefer Irish Ferries to Stena

A fascinating corporate video. It seems to be a recording of a recording? So 1980s in style. Lots of footage of the fleet which looked great in the livery of the time. Extraordinary to think the name Sealink has been dead for 25 years now.

I'm pretty sure sealink still exists in Australia. Sealink used to be owned by the railway before its privatisation.

This is a fantastic video - just one thing, have you still got the VHS (I'm guessing) that this is stored on? It just seems a shame to have the video archived like this - a direct capture would bring out the quality in this video! If you still have it i'd be happy to convert it for you and send you back the video cassette.

Yes I do! I'll post a picture of it in all its 1980s glory on my Community page. I did in fact make a proper copy using Honestech 5.0 software onto DVD last year. I just need to work out how to upload from a DVD onto KZbin.

Obviously a successful initiative, because they were sold off in 1991 and the brand disappeared by 1996.
