I had no idea there was a difference between a 'pentagram' and a 'pentacle', or even that there was a thing known as a pentacle. I think that my mind has always simply converted the word everytime I've heard it into the word 'pentagram'. Being new to Western esotericism and witchcraft there is still so much for me to learn, so thanks for enlightening me as always! Also, am I the only one who think that skull in the back looks delicious?! Surely not!

on the Devon protection symbol, one could use an iron gall ink, made from nails or other iron items, to draw it out. Thus adding iron.

This was a very enjoyable video and I would love one about Magick Squares! The SATOR is one of my favourite symbols. I am all about protection Magick and was always intrigued by symbols. Now, symbols are what inspire most of my creations (jewels).

This is interesting,the daisy sign or flower of life symbol is very popular here in America because I’ve seen it on the hex signs that the Amish communities use they make round pieces of wood and paint different symbols on them and hang them on their barns for protection. Some are huge. I also see these symbols on handmade quilts.

For the daisy wheel (or hex sign as I know it,) if you are at all into fiber crafts you could cross stitch or crochet something that would be removable if you put it above a door. Also there are some really similar style patterns if you look into Slavic or Scandinavian flower patterns for knitting things like socks, hats, or gloves.

Great video really enjoyed your presentation on these seals and symbols. What I find fascinating from a visual perspective is the fact that the Devon Protection symbol is similar in structure and some components to the Fear No Foe Seal and the Master All Spirits Seal. It would be interesting if the connection was one of trading ships from the east. if those seals appeared on ships that came to places like Devon? Thanks as always Love and Peace

Great video. It was interesting to see that several of the symbols ahd made it in to my jewelry collection over the years, but I had no idea of their meaning. Do you know of anywhere besides amazon that you can buy the barbarous words book? That ship to Norway. I also found that Barnes and Nobles currently sell the The Illustrated Signs and Symbols Sourcebook for 19USD for those interested (but sadly doesnt ship to Norway).

This is a great video. Thanks for sharing :) I have a question I'm hoping someone here can help out. How can I better practice folk magic from my ancestral regions if I don't actually live in the country? I've been searching for an answer with maybe help regarding connecting to genius loci and folk herbs etc when they're not growing wild in my country of residence. Any and all tips, particularly to the above topics would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thank you! It would depend on which regions in particular you're referring to I'd say. To connect to the folk magic of a country you don't or haven't lived in, I recommend doing general research on the history of that country and the local folklore of that region. Just generally researching the culture from the voices of people from that culture. If you're interested in herbs local to that area, I recommend getting a wildlife field guide or nature spotting book of that place and start from there. Hope this helps!

@@TheOakWitch It kind of helps, but also not really :-s I'm looking into English and Yorkshire specifically, but I live in the tropical region of Australia... so completely different climate, flora and fauna. Do I just try to adapt symbology from genius loci of England to native wildlife where I am from? I'm concerned about where the line is drawn for this regarding cultural appropriation of the First Nations here.
@TheOakWitch
@TheOakWitch 2 жыл бұрын
@@samanthapenaluna-litjens477 Honestly in regards to navigating your connection to the land around appropriation of the First Nations, I am definitely not the authority here to give advice on that. It might be worth talking to those groups, hearing their perspective and listening to their advice instead. You can practice more structural aspects of English folk magic (eg. use of poppets, esoteric symbols, incantations and spoken charms), but it might be worth trying to connect directly to the fauna of your area. I don't know the details of Australian wildlife, but I assume that it is quite different to England. For a lot of people, its easier and more effective to work with the climate and seasonal cycles you directly experience.
