So few knew he was such a multi-instrumental talent. He was the TX state Fiddle champion @ age 9! He played saxophone with precision and was an incredible woodwind and string instrumentalist, with guitar being his stage favorite. What a great musician…and such a loss for the musical community…😢

I just learned of Jim Seals passing watching the In Memorium segment of the 2023 Grammys. It seems unreal to me that his death wasn't a big news item at the time. Seals and Crofts were a huge part of my teenage development, and I had wanted to play Hummingbird at my wedding, but my minister wouldn't permit it because it was "heathen." (I stopped attending that church shortly thereafter.) I am so sad we are losing the talented musicians of my youth. The music of Seals and Crofts will always have a place in my heart. We may never pass this way again. Thank you, Jimmy, for sharing your gifts❤️

This video brings back such great memories! I've seen Seals & Crofts perform many times and got to know them, too, especially Dash. As a member of the Bahá'í Faith, which was and still is rather obscure, it was great having a rock group we could call our own. Songs like _Hummingbird_ were very special to us. I got to thank Dash Crofts one time for being our group, for giving us that feeling like we weren't just some little insignificant religion but had a great message that was being put out there through their art. Those were great times.

This is the talent I grew up with during my teenage years in the 70's. When I see the changes over the last 40+ years that have taken place on this Earth I am even more grateful that I had the chance to experience such great and positive music along with the superior talent that crafted such great and meaningful songs. The talent bar has definitely been lowered in the music industry since that time and decades before. Everything seems so dark and negative in todays music. There are good and bad,... negative and positive events that occur in every generation but I suppose my generation during the 60's and 70's chose to focus on the positive and make the best of the situation. Unlike today where the majority of youth seem to have fallen into the dark spaces that surround them. I continue to listen to artists such as Seals & Croft who have a positive message and uplifting musical arrangements,... even more so today due to the current events. The harmonies of this group are A-1 and on par with the works of Crosby, Still, Nash & Young. My vinyl collection gets spun on a regular basis. We can only hope that the music industry once again in the near future promotes these types of artists as they still exist. An example of this is a couple of artists I know in a group called the ' Capistrano Birds'. Give their song 'Journeys End' a listen and you will realize the unknown great talent that still exists.
