Sealskinz Head Gaiter Review 100% Waterproof

Is this balaclava the best for outdoor sports???
We are looking at Sealskinz head gaiter and seeing if you should buy one. I took this peace of head wear onto the hills in some bad weather and really put it to the test to see if it lived up to the 100% waterproof and windproof claims.

Depending what you are suing it for, that determines whether you wear it outside or inside the collar of your jacket. For rain you are suppose to wear it outside the collar of your jacket. It keeps water from going down inside the collar getting you wet. If you have a hoodie that is rain proof, then you can wear it inside, but you need to wear the hoodie over it. Or if you have a hat with a cover (flap) on the back that is waterproof. For wind protection or cold protection, it doesn't really matter. Specially if you know what to look for and pick the right one. Even then most people I know wear it outside while hiking. For wind all you need is an actual gaiter. Unless you want to kkep your head warm. But then again, you could get a beanie too. The balaclavas that you do wear inside are easy to tell because they are very wide at the bottom and cove part of your shoulders. If you are going to wear one in the rain under your collar with the hoodie down or no hoodie, at least make sure that the collar fits snuggly around your neck. By the way, I don't get why they call this a gaiter, it's more a balaclava than a gaiter. Trust me, after riding motorcycles for 36 years in rain or shine, and hiking since my mid teens, I know a thing or two about these things. The way I see is that what better test than putting one on and riding a motorcycle in the rain at 50-60 mph. Talking about extreme testing. Of course I take into account that I wear a helmet. But what I look for more is the ability of the balaclava or gaiter to keep water from going down the collar so I can stay dry even on long rides. I was looking for something to wear while riding my motorcycle in the rain and this is one of the balaclavas I was considering. But it's too bulky to wear under a helmet and too loose to wear on a motorcycle with all the wind, specially at highway speeds. Not good!

There is no such thing as bad weather , just bad clothing ! This gaiter looks great and what a brand !! I had a pair of Sealskins socks which lasted a year's ., shame that Sealskinz can't make the first waterproof hiking shoes that actually keep your feet dry in heavy rain and wet grass. .

Great review . I'm thinking of getting one for the West Highlands in May..I'm thinking it may be too warm when punching out miles but I'm sure if/when it rains like hell I'd be glad to have it.

Just purchased one of these. Do you find the inner mouth covering way too big when you the cords pulled tight? I t seems really uncomfortable to me.

It does offer alot of protection but it is mainly to keep your head dry. If you put a hut on underneath then yes it would be very warm. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching 👍
