I have just had an What! moment, I have definitely been wearing it the wrong way. I wear mine with a motorcycle helmet and glasses and stopped wearing one over the top of my head due to the problems you described. As they say, "every day is a school day". Thank you for that lesson, much appreciated.

Great for on the bike on cold days. I have one that has a fleece neck part but has a smooth, thin head section - helmet slides on super easy and entire chin/neck is covered, no adjusting… search neck warmer with helmet liner if interested, they’re excellent.

Swedish motorcyclist here: I have one of these, but if I ride in winter, I have a really good balaclava hood that extends under my jacket like a medieval hood. Nicely padded/insulated too. Mind you I stop riding once there's ice on the ground. One of these days I'll just buy a 110/250cc dirt bike I can get proper winter tires for.

I wear one year round when riding my motorcycle. It makes it easier to put my helmet on, or take it off, it also protects my skin from the helmet strap. In the winter I use a (partially) fleece-lined one to keep me warm, and in the summer it protects me against the sun and more important flies and other little bugs. Over the years I've collected a good number of Buff's, for different situations. My favorite is the merino wool Buff, which I wear almost year round.

I've been wearing these things for a while now (years) mostly for dust blocking when running machinery outdoors, came in handy during the whole scare of 2020-now because they meet the criteria yet still allow me to breath normal. NEVER seen it done this way, just tried it(wearing one now and that's great! Thanks. Subbed.

They don't meet the criteria for preventing the spread of covid, if that's what you're talking about. The CDC specifically stated neck gaiters were not adequate face masks years ago. They always said if you're going to use a cloth mask, then it should have multiple layers of tight-woven cotton.

Interesting tip, thanks. I only have one gaiter but I have found it's most useful to me when doing yardwork. Weedwhacking and mowing especially. Prevents that airborne grit in my teeth and nose. But--- I did use it this winter when shoveling snow on a very cold day. Was a great help to buffer that freezing cold air when breathing. Gaiters are a wonderfully protective face tool. 👍🏻

As a skier, I can agree with this. Instead of wearing a hat, I just pull the top of the gaiter down until it is on my eyebrows partially. I take the slack to the corners, triangle fold and tuck them in. The ski goggles cover the only exposed parts of your face. Works with or without a ski helmet and protects your face from windburn.

Thanks for the 'hinge' tip. I use these under my motorcycle helmet because they do 4 things: 1) stop my ears getting pulled down when I put the helmet on; 2) keep the sun off my face; 3) protect my skin from wind; and 4) keep my hair in place.

How I learned to do it is the pull the front top edge over my face, as you used to do, but pull the bottom rear edge over the back of my head, instead of the top back edge. I like that method for to reasons: It overlaps on my ears keeping them warm and against my head during winter. It keeps only a single layer of cloth over my face which is nice in the summer. Use case/preference. Make the call that makes sense for you.

Another + of this way and others of covering your mouth in cold weather is heat management of air, what you breathe. This little pocket will help you to preheat it a bit for it to go warmer through your throat. Especially helpful, when you have to be in guard, or generally stay without lots of movement for a period of time

Thanks for the tip. Another consideration is to take your hat off and do exactly this and then place your hat over the buff....so it doesn't stretch the fabric out so much. The extra thickness also keeps your hat snug.

I was issued with a "wool head over" by the British army in the early '80's, basically a longer version of the Buff before Buffs were invented. Great kit. We worked this out as a way of: a. covering the face to reduce the amount of camo cream we slathered on our faces. b. looking like ninja's. But good tip for others

I don’t think there is any wrong way to wear this product. I do drum cover videos for KZbin, and sweat getting into my eyes while playing is an issue. I used to use head bands, but they never worked as well as these. I’ve used “Buffs” in various different ways for about 13 years- but I now use (also) them to cover my head, as a sort of hat/headscarf. No sweat problem anymore! Really versatile product 👍
