I have a question, how would you suggest doing this in a striped patern where there is a color change on every row? Since you can't pick up the front stitch if you're changing on top of a change.
@RandomSam01
@RandomSam01 6 ай бұрын
I do this with beanies and actually it works pretty well if you do a color change every row it still looks just as seamless, just make sure you tie your knots on the inside of your project so the knot is hidden

You’re lucky 🍀 that you found out so early. It took me 2 years of doing amigurumi before I found out about this technique. Yeah! It means that all the projects I’ve done in the past that required color change were TERRIBLE. Because I learned the basic way (which is NOT neat at all). So yeah. But, I don’t think it’s all bad. At least it wasn’t 5 or 10 years later 😂. Anyways, will definitely be using this technique from now on

Thank you so much for this tutorial… I kid you not I’ve tried so many techniques… the cutting and creating an invisible join, changing the color in stitch before… but I really appreciate this tutorial you are so generous to share with us… ☺️ Edit : I have one question… when you have to change the color every row, how can I avoid bringing up front loop of the old row ? I hope I’m making sense… I’m doing one row in black, next row is red, when I come back to the last stitch, I’m picking up the front loop of the black and finishing the row, but the black is being pulled up

Am I supposed to start the color change at the last stitch of the last round or at the firts stitch of the next round? Whatever i do this technique adds an extra stitch to my round that I don't need.
@thenicolechase
@thenicolechase Жыл бұрын
You can do it either way. The first stitch of your round would not be the stitch that you made the color change, it would be the SC that follows it, and then you work your last SC in the same spot as the color change, so your count will remain the same.

Just to clarify, you do the first sc in the second stitch of the row since we slip stitch to the first in back loop, does this change where we start counting our stitches for each row then? Like could this throw off shaping for later on if there is shaping in the pattern?
@thenicolechase
@thenicolechase 8 ай бұрын
Yes, that's correct. This method would impact shaping if the shaping isn't done evenly for the entire round, for example, if you were creating a curve rather than just slimming or widening.

This gives a good colour change, but I find it makes it lumpy on the surface of the amigurumi. I used the technique for a stripy jumper and it gives a knobbly spine effect going up the amigurumi - maybe because I've been using cotton thread quite tightly crocheted?
@thenicolechase
@thenicolechase 3 ай бұрын
I'd imagine that would be why! I typically use worsted weight acrylic, which is pretty soft in comparison to cotton thread, so it has some more flexibility. The smallest I've used it on myself I think would be DK cotton. ❤️

Does this technique move the start of the round one stitch to the left? The reason I ask: I decided to practice this method on your Rainbow charlie bear, but when I went to add the arms I had a problelm. If I followed the pattern the first arm ended up in the front of the bear instead of the side.
@thenicolechase
@thenicolechase 3 ай бұрын
Hi! Yes, it would. Unless you would do the color change with your last st of the prior round instead of the first st of the next. As for rainbow Charlie, you can simply shift the placement to wherever puts the arms on the sides, keeping the same number of sts at the front and the back as written. Hope that helps!
@romyh153
@romyh153 3 ай бұрын
So do you do this colourchange before starting a new round or after?
@mossfeathers
@mossfeathers 5 ай бұрын
I'm a bit confused, would the last stitch from the color change count as the first stitch from the original round or the last stitch in the round? Let's say if the pattern called for an increase then 5 single crochets in the round I do the color change in, would the last stitch I do to complete the color change be an increase or a single crochet
@thenicolechase
@thenicolechase 4 ай бұрын
I personally just shift the entire round over a stitch, with the last stitch completing the color change being the last stitch in the round. This works great for projects that only have a handful of changes and/or that the shaping isn't complex or one-sided.

What about on your unicorn legs where the colour change is the same row that there is a decrease at the start of the row?
@thenicolechase
@thenicolechase Ай бұрын
Just work the decrease as you would directly after that color change. The last stitch of the round is where the color change is really completed, and that would be just a SC. :)

Is this in spiral or you must close the circle?

I love this technique for color change however I seem to lose a stitch. I've read your directions over and over and can't figure it out - can you help me?
@thenicolechase

Are you putting your hook through more than one stitch? That's the only thing that I can think of that would cause that.

It does *not* seem that this works for alternating rows. Maybe the second row after the color change hides the seam? I’m alternating between a blue and a cream and the color change seam is very obvious. I will finish the front loop/last stitch SC and then go into the back loop of the first stitch of the next round, pick up the new color and pull through a loop and continue on as the video instructs. Does anyone have tips? Or am I correct in assuming this only works if you are doing more than one round of the color change?

So if you are using stitch markers where would you place the stitch marker?
@thenicolechase
@thenicolechase 7 ай бұрын
In the first stitch made, right after you changed colors.
