This is just a basic beanie, Donna. If you find a pattern for a half-double crochet basic beanie, you can just use that and sub the camel stitch and tapered ending!

@@sheepishlysharing Thanks so much! I just wrote down the increases needed, that was where I was getting a bit confused. My beanie is half finished already and it looks so nice! It's dark green and white and looks like a peppermint swirl. 😃

Hi Margaret! Thanks so much for this tutorial. When I first saw these beautiful and unique hats I knew I had to make one. I've been crocheting and knitting for over 50 years and now don't have much patience for color work. This pattern was no problem at all, in fact, it was so much fun to do. The Red Heart Super saver yarn I used softened up nicely after I washed it. Your hat chart is very helpful and I appreciate all you do. God bless you!

Like this pattern. Does this pattern take more yarn than say, a regular hdc hat?

Not really. Crocheting in the 3rd loop WILL shorten the stitch a bit but not enough to make a noticeable difference.

@@sheepishlysharing thank you for responding. Let me finish this hat today and then I’ll let you know. 🦋

When making a three-colored hat, would you start with 12 stitches? That way, each yarn would have 4 stitches on the first row and then, with the increases, the stitch count would total 24 in the second row, 36 in the third row, 48 in the 4th row, 60 in the 5th row, etc. Is that correct?

Thank you for this but I can’t figure out a problem I’m having and I specifically counted and double checked to make sure I had the right number between every double stitch (2HDC in one stitch) and yet when I’m starting on the sixth or seventh row I don’t have enough stitches left after the last double stitches up to the marker clip- like one row I’m on now I’m supposed to have five and there’s only three sts before the marker, and the previous row there was one short, so it’s like I didn’t count right but I know I counted right so I can’t figure out why. 🥺
