Looove Catherine and Sean ~ and their ahh-dorable babies! How cute was the baby hold on to momma’s long braided hair, then make a noise and Catherine giggling in response. Looove that famous giggle! Been a huge fan since their love story was aired years ago! I remember watching and rewatching all the episodes, especially the most moving proposal and Catherine’s love letter to Sean, their most gorgeous wedding ~ really everything I could get my little hands on. lol

WOW as a black women I found these perspectives so refreshing. These are fair people thinking for themselves about a topic that is hard to speak about. I love the idea of choosing bachelors/bachelorettes who have dated different races so all the contestants have a fair chance and are not just put on the show as "token" minority characters.

Right now we’re talking about Black lives. I don’t want to take away from that and I haven’t been advocating for Asians as much as I usually do because of this! However, I do want to add in this case specifically that I’d really love to see more Asians! What he said about casting more Black people is sooooooo valid but they cast even less Asians than they do Blacks! I really hope they diversify their cast as a whole, and not just understand it as casting more Black people only.
@candacedawn3574 жыл бұрын
As a black person, I totally understand & support your comment. There should be more people of color, whether black, Asian or Hispanic.
@melanatedseastar40924 жыл бұрын
I think the big picture to everybody is missing is what racial demographic of people religiously watches that show to get them the ratings and millions of dollars in sponsorships? Does having more black and Asian contestants mean that more people are going to watch? Or is it going to be a disaster as far as ratings? Sometimes, regardless of race and I am black, people need to get out of their feelings and look at the cold hard numbers. Numbers do not have feelings
@jillreys61594 жыл бұрын
Melanated SeaStar Rachel Lindsay acknowledges that her season had less views than most and guesses it’s because she’s black and the audience mostly consists of white people. She understands it and, honestly, so do I! But I wonder what message it’ll send if they continue to mostly cast white people? Especially now when everyone is demanding more diversity. I just feel like it’ll perpetuate the idea that white people are “better,” the “ideal,” the “most desirable,” etc., which is something a lot of people still believe.
@goosebump8014 жыл бұрын
As the white wife of an Asian man, I agree with everything you said. I also agree with the posts about ratings: they were in fact lower on Rachel’s season. (This saddens me greatly. Rachel is at the top of my list for favorite Bachelorette! She knew what she wanted, was very methodical, and came away with the prize: true love.) I really loved what Catherine said about interviewing candidates (not just the leads) for true openness.This is how you change the system from within. Seeing more interracial couples come out of the franchise would be so wonderful. I support Claire as Bachelorette; maturity has been lacking for the past several seasons. But for the *next* round... #Tayshia2021 👏👏👏👏
@dela3544 жыл бұрын
I agree they do not cast as much Indians or Arabs as well
@kennyo38344 жыл бұрын
The problem is the casting system in place. Probability issues lead to same outcome.Too many whites picking just whites. Mixed things up fairly. Have more minorities in the casting system.Pick a black lead that would also pick black contestantant. Or a Asian lead that would pick Asian. Pick a lead that does not have a preference pick from a pool of different minorities. Tired of seeing cast member be 80 percent white and 2 or 3 token minorities.

While I agree that they should cast Bachelors/Bachelorettes that are open to dating outside their race. To say that casting a black bachelor for the simple fact of being black would be an "injustice" shows he doesn't know what he is talking about. There have been multiple Black contestants that were more than capable of role. They've had Eric from Rachels season, Sienne (the Harvard Graduate) from Aries season, Taysha from Coltons season, Mike from Hannahs season as well as other contestants. I had to stopped watching the Show because it got so frustrating watching white people get picked for the lead role over and over again.
@goosebump8014 жыл бұрын
I agree, all those you listed were excellent candidates. I still lobby for #Tayshia2021! However, I think casting for true openness in candidates (not just leads-i.e. cover this earlier in the process) would result in more interracial couples and ease the franchise (and especially the audience) into greater diversity. It’s sad the ratings were so much lower on Rachel’s season; it and Sean Lowe’s were my two favorite seasons! The show needs to evolve,but the audience needs to come along too or it won’t work
@rachelyee65834 жыл бұрын
I don't think he was saying that there have been no "worthy" black contestants to possibly become leads in the past. I think he was just leaning into the fact that nowadays a lot of people are seemingly pushing for a black bachelor for the sole fact that they're black. And if you know Sean, he has advocated for Marquel Martin (from the Bachelorette Season 10) to be the first black bachelor years ago. So to say that he doesn't know what he's talking about isn't fair and is misinterpreting what he's saying. He isn't discrediting the black contestants in the past, he's simply saying that in general, and from now on, the focus when casting should be on merit over race :)
@Shewas-kathybates4 жыл бұрын

@amysexy7744 жыл бұрын
I think the way he said that made it seem like he was insinuating there weren't already previous contestants w/ merit. He should have said Eric and Mike are perfect examples and we need to continue casting more Black men, Asian men, Latino men so that we have a continously growing pool and his comment would have been *chef's kiss*
@ryanp43964 жыл бұрын
@@amysexy774 Agreed. I don't think he's saying there aren't any past POC contestants of merit. He's just saying in general that as the cycle continues (because upon casting a lead of color, one would hope it's not a one and done situation), casting more diverse sets of contestants will allow POC greater opportunities of becoming a lead while also being chosen based on merit vs picking purely for the sake of it.
@Shewas-kathybates4 жыл бұрын
He’s not out here picking leads. He didn’t choose Peter. IF they went about the process like he said then we would’ve had a black bachelor a long time ago. Y’all are missing the point. And Peter did look good on paper. Pilot, family man, nice guy.

The truth is that Sean and Catherine are both very open-minded and mature people. Sean was very honest and genuine with the producers when he was asked about “his type of women” and that he was seriously looking for a “wife”, meaning that he put a lot of effort to see through the women’s physical appearances and connect with them on a deeper level in order to pick a good-hearted woman. As for Catherine, you could tell that she was very positive and was comfortably being herself despite all the competition throughout the season. I’m sure there were thoughts that went across her mind about “checking the box” for the producers, but she was proud of who she was and showed her readiness for marriage, which set her apart from the clout chasers and those who weren’t ready to become a wife. Furthermore, the religious factor of both of them being Christians actually helped form a stronger bond. Hopefully, the producers will take their advice on interviewing contestants and delve deeper into their minds to see whether they are actually ready for marriage, which is actually the whole point of the show and that it will allow the Bachelor/Bachelorette to value the contestants’ inner beauty over their physical appearances.
@candacedawn3574 жыл бұрын

But I have students and friends who are not a size 2 or size 4 or size 6, and they don't think they can find love or they deserve love because they are not a size 2. I believe Bachelor Nation needs to branch out and cast leads who are into dating women/men of all sizes and cast contestants that look different than the size-2 women we are used to seeing.

My suggestion would be that the next Bachelor/Bachelorette be giving bios of the candidates that don't include any indicators of race or religion. Deep questions and some random fun questions. Let them choose who they would like to be on the show based on that. Maybe throw in a few random candidates for ratings. I think that this would give a more diverse selection. Different ethnicities, different sizes, different ages, etc... Just a thought.

They had asked Rachel Lindsay about her types of men she had dated, and she wanted a mixed of men, and didn't pick a black man for her husband. So, the show has been on point on diversity all along, so accusing Bachelor Nation of racism, is wrong and suspect. If they want a black man for the Lead, they should go back on Rachel season, and allow Eric Bigger to have that opportunity, if they wanna be fair. I've seen more adversity on the show, and whatever they're doing, it's working.

There's about 14% or so African Americans in the bachelor target group as a percent of the population. If every season casts about 30 contestants and 3 to 4 of them are African American, then they are well represented as far as contestants go. I think is more of an issue of making sure the lead will be attracted to the diverse cast and to cast the people of color as leads when they have a chance, for example Mike. I think is a complex issue but to decry racism is unfair, they are clearly trying to achieve representation.

"Pick a bachelor based on their merits" 😂 So for 25 seasons, only white men had merit?? For black people (or any person pf colour) to be cast on this show they have to be exceptional. Rachel Lindsey is a lawyer and her father is a judge. Many of the other non black women/men that have been cast on this show were mediocre (in career and personality) but peoole of colour are expected to be exceptional to even be considered. I like Catherine but let's not pretend that she's not racially ambiguous/white passing, that right there is a privilege.
@brittneypine66284 жыл бұрын
Say that again for the people in the back 🗣. Also if Catherine was full asian instead of half she’d still be most desired. It’s not like asian women aren’t high ranking when it comes to white men.

But if they chose leads based on merit and/or popularity (Mike even though he had that thing with Demi Lovato around the time that they were looking for another bachelor) then we would’ve had a black bachelor and/or bachelorette a long time ago.
