Sean Marks held his first presser since the Mikal Bridges to the Knicks trade began the Brooklyn Nets franchise reset. He commented on the trade and some of the thought process that lead to the decision. The Locked on Nets guys take a look at his quotes and try to read between the lines of some of what he said.
Plus, they discuss some of what Noah Clowney said as well and how that could shape up for the second-year Nets forward becoming a team leader in years to come.

Trust in Marks. Most of our trades are nearly done minus DFS and Cam J...let him focus on losing, player development and finding diamonds in the rough...shouldn't be an issue at all this year

Best GM the Nets have ever had IMO. Especially when you look at what he had to work with when he took the job.

Let’s remember Marks is cleaning up the mess he created. So right now he finally made the right call BUT it was an obvious one. Now moving forward Marks can rehabilitate his track record based on how his drafts and rebuilds this team.

I am very confident going forward considering marks ability to sign/draft and develop prospects. He was able to develop players like caris levert, Jarrett Allen, joe Harris, spencer Dinwiddie, nic claxton, cam Thomas, etc into good nba players, all while being pick 20 to undrafted. Now that we actually have valuable first round picks, I’m excited to see what marks is capable of!

100% it’s rare that the GM who successfully constructed a rebuild, failed in a super team, ends up running the next rebuild.

@@thebrogressiveagenda9936 no but part of being g a great leader is managing personalities and he did that poorly. Further, he chose the coaches he has done a poor job of hiring and coaches set the tone. He gave Kyrie and KD a push over coach which was the opposite of what they needed. Marks allowed Kyrie and KD to come in a dismantle the culture that’s on Marks. There were also moves outside of KD and Kyrie that had little to do with them. Like refusing to add size to the roster while being out rebounded every year. Trading players too late and having them lose value. Trading for Ben Simmons when there was an offer for Halliburton instead and then not looking at the medicals for Ben Simmons. There is plants of fireable moves that Marks made outside of Kyrie.

Everyone says we waited to long to trade Mikal. I disagree. If we traded him last year we might have gotten a 2024 pick in a weak draft or would have had to wait 2 years until the 2025 draft. Trading him now shortens the window of being bad. Fans will have something to root for starting in Oct 2025

From that press conference im fairly certain that they're taking a full long term approach with everything. I know people think that the nets might be jumping back into making huge splashes again next yr but I think the 26/27 season is the year we return to the playoffs. These next two yrs are going to be solely about youth and development.

@Locked On Nets I know everyone is interested in Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey but check out the McDonald’s all American game and see how Ron Harper’s son Dylan Harper may be the best draft pick in next years draft. He’s basically a 6’5 Jalen Brunson and I believe will be a game changing superstar PG in the league

You are what your record says you are just like Bill Parcells preaches. That’s all you need to ever know about the success or lack of success with this rebuild. There’s no spinning it any other way other than what your record is. The Nets will draft like the NY Jets will draft quarterbacks. They’ll get mostly very good players, but it won’t matter because they can’t draft their 1a and 1b quarterback that is their needle movers even though they draft at the top of the draft. The best the Nets will do is draft a Mark Sanchez version of a player that they’ll call their star.

@adamarmbrecht @dougnorrie I think Mikal asked out but Marks has to make him look good (it bodes well for player relations) plus it makes the Brooklyn front office look better publicly than to admit this is the fourth star or best player in a row (Harden, Kyrie, KD and now Bridges) who requested a trade from our franchise. It’s all politics and face-saving for the future. Remember even when teams are done either with a particular player or vice versa, teams still want to maintain a good relationship with the departing players because many current or future players share agents or representation and it makes sense to publicly make things look amiable. Just good business.

I don’t care if Marks has 50 first round picks that are all the first pick. He’s not drafting a needle mover like Kobe Bryant, Shaq, Lebron, or Wade. He’s going to draft disappointing players at the top of the draft like most other gm’s draft disappointing players at the top of the draft such as RJ Barrett or D’Angelo Russell or John Wall or Evan Turner. Yes I’m calling those players disappointing because they are not needle movers. They are not the kind of generational talent that transcends a franchise completely in terms of record and moving a team to the top of the standings. This rebuild is a complete waste of time and you watch fans in 5 years time will be wondering why we are still mediocre with all those top picks. Well top picks aren’t a certainty that’s why. You need more certainty in building a roster not uncertainty. I quit watching the team (and all of sports in general) as soon as the KD and Kyrie trade went down. I wasn’t willing to wait several years only to more likely be a 47 team like the Magic instead of a 50+ win team like the T-Wolves or Mavs. That’s a waste of time. Lastly the Nets are not a superstar free agent destination. If you are going to say that, then you might as well say the Wizards become a free agent destination automatically by moving to Chicago tomorrow. Or Oklahoma City Thunder will become a free agent destination by moving to Seatlle tomorrow. It doesn’t work as simply as people think. This Nets team will have to do A LOT MORE and more importantly prove A LOT MORE in terms of results than the average big market team in order to regain any trust from Superstars in their team. Talking strictly about team results, where in Nets history screams trust in the Nets in terms of team results? Maybe 2002 that’s it in my estimation.
