That’s because Drew Brees never “went rogue” after a snap and knowingly defied Coach Peyton’s play-calling when there was absolutely no justifiable reason to do so. Russ, on the other hand, obviously did “go rogue”, probably more than once during the Lions’ game, where Russ “called his own play” (for whatever reason) not following the play drawn up by Coach Payton, either because Russ wasn’t confident in his ability to execute it effectively, or because Russ thought another play that he was way more familiar with would be more successful than Coach Peyton’s play. That would be my guess was the reason Coach Peyton couldn’t contain his frustration with Russ, causing him to get in his grill, and shout at him in front of millions of NFL fans.

I cant wait to see when Payton falls flat. Think about it this way: if you were a top tier QB (where are they?) would you want to play with a coach who throws you under the bus, berates a 34 year old QB in front of the team & HOME fans, asks you to take a pay cut, waive an injury clause in your contract and then blames you for all the offensive shortcomings ALL IN ONE SEASON? Football karma will come back to him in BIG way. The one thing you have to give Wilson is he takes care of the ball (8 ints last season). He got Sutton a career year in TDS. The previous owners knew that the Broncos would sell for more if they had a franchise QB & media calling them Super Bowl favorites. They traded for Russ & sold the team for a then record price after they hired a coach who failed to get Aaron Rodgers to the Broncos. Previous ownership blew all those draft picks because they were selling the team. Not their worry. They just needed a franchise QB to get the media hype train making potential owners think they were buying a Super Bowl contender in year 1. Media won’t report that because they were part of the hype machine. Russ made the previous owners a lot more money in the sale price.

@@brob8204 You can read articles on team valuation. Having a franchise QB signed increases value. If the previous owners thought they had a real Super Bowl team they would’ve held on for another season. They weren’t going to suffer from the draft picks traded for Russ. They stopped at nothing to get a top QB signed when they were selling. That’s like building an addition onto a home & selling before the owner enjoys it. Contract money guaranteed for injury & skill beyond one season has to be transferred to an NFL account. It’s set up that way to this day because owners feared the league getting sued if an owner (like Patriots Sullivan family) ran out money & couldn’t pay the players. Browns had to send all Deshaun Watson’s contract money to the NFL who disperses it to the player. Russ’ guarantee was for less than Watson’s but the owners still wouldn’t go through all of that unless it helped the sake. Check out article on factors that impact valuation of NFL teams.
@r.williamcomm76938 ай бұрын
@@brob8204 If you look at NFL team valuations, a team with a franchise QB under contract gets a boost in value. The prior owners simply needed the biggest sale price in a market where billionaires are competing to buy a team & only one team is for sale at any one time. It’s accounting so it doesn’t get media attention but it’s like painting a house before selling it. An extra $250 million adds up. The Patriots were among teams valued at the bottom until they launched the dynasty. But ppl don’t understand how teams are valued. Billionaires do & when a team is being called Super Bowl favorite on the NFL Network & the rest of sports media follows potential owners are willing to pay more for a team that appears to be a contender.

Payton couldn't stand Russ because he wasn't running the plays as designed- he kept trying to improvise on the fly...When Brees ran the Saints O, everything was on schedule...even if he changed the play at the line, you rarely saw long handoff running plays or Brees scrambling around if the play got blown up- he would either quickly dump it down, get rid of it without turning it over or if necessary, just take the sack and move on to the next play. If you watch Russ last season, he was doing the exact opposite enough that it drove control freak Payton nuts- PLUS...when he got to the Broncos, Payton pissed Russ off when he told him that he had to condition/do physio with the team's personnel, not his own trainers/physios, so they were never on the same page to begin with (for reference, look into how he cleaned house of "entitled" vets during most of his tenure with the Saints).

I’m so tired of people in the media gas lighting stories. For one, they only talk about what they assume. Sean Payton doesn’t hate Wilson, he can’t stand the way he cannot process his offense. I’m a broncos fan and I can tell you from being at the games and also watching them at home… he has difficulty climbing the pocket resulting in his scrambling to find receivers and getting sacked for loss of downs, or fumbling the ball away..One play against the Texans, Denver picked up a first down and because of him panicking, got sacked. Losing critical yards, making it 2 & 20?! No, I’m not buying into it. Wilson is indeed a good player, he’s passed his prime. He’s not worth the money he’s contracted to have. No excuses performances. Wilson has ran out of excuses and the Broncos can’t win with improvising away from the structured plays. He came into Denver with saying the broncos will get to the Super Bowl let’s ride! Really?? Ride where?? To a season under 500?? The Broncos did the right thing. Take the hit, move on and start building your team with a franchise QB. This way, if you tank, you’ll have more draft capital next season and more Money..

@@fvw1187 Being top 32 means you’re in the same boat as Zack Wilson, Daniel Jones, Tim Boyle, etc. Anyone who is starting is considered being top 32 because that’s how many teams the league has
@fvw118710 ай бұрын
@UnGoDLYLoads73 you know what? I think there's just a misunderstanding here. I'm saying if you are the 32nd best qb on the planet you should be starting in the league, it doesn't mean you are starting. If he is the 20th best qb he should be starting and deserves to. I'm speaking more abstract than whether or not they actually are the starter. If he is the 20th best qb he is extremely good and should be playing somewhere. It's a really small group of people on this planet who can play nfl qb.

concerning what RG3 says at 1:46 ... seriously? Wilson is not a cerebral quarterback. He relies on athleticism and reflexes instead of relying on pre-snap reads and precise timing and rhythm. Given that, there is no way he can be a top-anything QB in today's NFL. QBs who work tirelessly and who make their whole lives about film study and practice are the ones who are top 20 QBs. QBs with a lot of non-football interests and outside distractions are just never going to have the kind of careers that guys like Brady, Manning, Brees, Mahomes, etc., have. Russell doesn't make his entire life be all about football, and it shows on the field. If he did, then Payton would have loved him and he would be the Broncos' QB of the future like he is being paid to be.

Lmao dudes really protecting Russ in this situation are pathetic. They feel so bad now for him after bashing him for an entire year for his play. The switch up people have on Russ is so subjective, simply because they only look at his stats. Yall gotta make better analysis of a player’s skillset and play instead of blaming the coach lmao.

I seriously cannot comprehend why Russell is getting defended here. The amount of times I saw him not throw to an open receiver indicates he clearly is not “elite “. He could barely move the ball this year. Sure he had more tds but how often did he actually move the ball effectively? Not often at all.

I find the Russell Wilson Hall of Fame "debate" kind of strange. People call Ben Roethlisberger a Hall of Famer and many people call Eli Manning a Hall of Famer. Russell Wilson has won a Super Bowl, appeared in another and made almost as many Pro Bowls as Manning and Roethlisberger combined. Russell Wilson was perennially voted as one of the top 20 (he peaked at number 2 in 2020) among his peers for a stretch of like 6 or 7 years. Roethlisberger peaked at number 18 and Eli Manning at number 33. So if we're gonna keep him out because we are maintaining the highest of standards for the Hall of Fame, fine. But to enshrine guys like Roethlisberger and Eli Manning and NOT Russell Wilson would be completely ridiculous.
