They keep lying about how much the family made. There was a flat for fee of $225K for each of the 4 “family members” plus 2.5% on the back end. Why wasn’t Michael included in contract negotiations? They’re also using his name for speaking engagements.

That Attorney gave a half truth regarding Michael knowing that he was signing and agreeing to a conservatorship. If you read what he said in the book, he stated in that very same sentence that from his understanding it is the same as being adopted. So, that clearly tells you that Michael’s understanding of the conservatorship was unclear.

And it took him until the age of 37 to actually learn what the word means? The conservatorship made him family within the eyes of the NCAA which allowed him to be legacy at Ole Miss to play football as a Tuohy family member. We're supposed to believe now that he didn't understand it or no one actually explained it to him? How about his mother who was in the court when the conservatorship was finalized? He was 3 months shy of 18 and senior in high school... it was the most expedient way to make him a family member to the school. He also claims that he doesn't remember HIMSELF signed the agreement with the movie studio turning down profit residual from the movie, hence the reason he's suing the family instead of the organization that actually made MILLIONS from the movie. I trust this man as far as I can throw him. It's all about the money for Michael.

@@covertpuppytwo3857 Yes it did. you ask most people on the street what a conservatorship is an 99% wont have a fucking clue. I got clarity on lots of things later in life. You act like that's strange? And he was already a 5 star recruit. He didnt NEED to go to Ole Miss, which is not a football powerhouse nor is it an upper echelon academic school either. He could have gone to UT, Michigan, Tennessee or any better football school than Ole Miss. The only reason he went there is because this family pushed him there for their own personal gain and reasons. Leah Tuohy has pulled some bullshit with other kids before. She's a real piece of work.

@@ddp5406 In his own words he acknowledged it was a conservatorship. But ultimately didn't care what it was called because it was a formality. No paperwork was going to confirm or change what they already were, which was a family. (I'm paraphrasing). In the legal filings for his petition, he states "Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys." All this says to me is that he's broke and not part of the inheritance, so now he's grasping at straws trying to get money out of them. Why else is he doing all this, timed with the release of his new book? The guy is a scumbag. There was no foul play by the Touhy's. I also find it ironic the Touhy's are considered the bad guys in all of this, but not his crackhead mother and absent father.

I think someone finally told him what it actually means and what that means for him legally. He can’t inherit anything from them, including royalties from HIS own life that they own! In other words, legally, he’s no closer to them than their groundskeeper. Pay attention how Sean approved everything business wise, even on Michaels behalf. Why? Because he trusted them.

We know all about them because of Britney and before her Brian Wilson also under conservatorship. Someone/s fact checked and edited his book, it still doesn't prove he knew the difference. They could have adopted him but because of his age they chose to conservatorship as it allowed them to make decisions for him, as an adult they could guide him but not overide him if he was their son vs legally under their care. No matter what their intentions it's dodgy, they never properly articulated the situation to him and made sure he was ok with it.

This is such a sad turn in this whole story. I did a little digging Michael Oher wrote a book in 2011 (12 years ago) stating that he was put on a conservatorship and to him he was part of the family because they couldn’t adopt him at that time because Michael was already of age (18 years old). Michael had a short football career but what I don’t agree is that his conservatorship carried on for long. This means probably they had a good relationship which lasted for a while with the family and now has gotten sour. As it stands Michael’s current net worth is around $22 Million. Recently the Touhy’s sold their fast food empire so I highly doubt they were after Michael’s money. What’s happened to sour this relationship? Who knows but something tells me it’s greed. And I just hope I am wrong, would hate it to be it from either side.

By the conservatorship the Tuhoys have legal rights over Oher, while Oher does not have any rights as their son because he was not adopted. The conservatorship took away from Oher the legal right to make his own medical decisions, decisions about his education and to enter into contracts without the approval of the Tuhoys. That is a lot of legal power over a person. The conservatorship is still valid today, and he is 37 years old. If he passed they will have all the power over his assets, but if they pass, he has no rights as their son. Oher disliked the movie because it misrepresented him, and took away the recognition for his own efforts. The book was written by a friend of the Tuhoys and they made sure they were presented in a good light. The Tuhoys took away Oher's legal rights and the recognition of his efforts. They used his name and likeness for their own benefit. In my opinion what mainly hurts Oher is the betrayal of trust.

It’s very strange they still to this day have a conservatorship over him when he’s now 37 years old and that means they still have legal say/control over his everything. Maybe the conservatorship was quicker than an adoption They needed to put him on their insurance, both medical and auto. I believe in some states a child who signs themselves back into care (foster care) can get MEDICAID or state insurance. I think that the conservatorship did not give them the power over his finances. If that was the case, they could have had access to his NFL money. I do think that they saw potential in him. But not as exploitive. As dividing as this story seems to racially be, dont you think that in ALL these years there would be something horrible to dig up...a sound bite etc? I havent seen ANYTHING! There is a an interview with an attorney that gives an explanation of Hollywood accounting. Just because the movie made so much money doesn't mean that the family did. It will be easy to follow the money and I hope that the public and news outlets can report the truth whatever it is. When I whatched the movie, I knew it was "based on" their lives. It wasn't just Michael's story, and it wasnt just the Tuoy's story. It wasnt about "White Saviors". That's not why people loved it so much. It was about love, acceptance, vulnerability, strength, and support. It's about seeing a kid that needs halp and stepping up and fighting for the underdog...and watching him go to the NFL despite all of the setbacks he had to overcome!! And that so much better and inspirational that all of this race baiting and divisiveness.

I have to say that I side with the family It's hard to legally adopt someone when they are 17 or 18 it's much easier to get a conservatorship to oversee him why it was never dissolved I can't answer that but he's not an invalid. He knew in 2011 that he was under conservatorship, The family has been estranged for 10 years. The fact that he is using the court of public opinion to vilify the family already makes me lose respect for him. He mentions numerous times in his book being under conservatorship because he has no real family to speak of and he will have even less. It feels duplicitous on his part. Something tells me his life is not going well and the money is running dry. Greed will make people do a lot of things but I do not believe this family withheld money from him I don't believe it.

Why wasn't the conservatorship ended years ago??? He was a workhorse. The parents made an "investment" in him, for him to work hard and take care of them for the rest of their lives. Surely they recouped ALL of what they invested in him from the movie and him entering the NFL. Bottom line, we need to take care of our own so stuff like this doesn't happen!!

The word adoption is never used once in the movie. They took him into their home and made him part of their family.... treated him as one of their own. Most people would casually call that "adopting" him even if it was never made legal. I went to the animal shelter and *adopted* a dog - didn't sign adoption papers or even need a lawyer.

Well, he was already a good high school prospect to begin with, so he was going to get a college scholarship to play football regardless of that family. The movie portrayed him as playing football for the first time when he met them, but he had been playing way before that. The movie also portrayed him as dumb and slow when he wasn't. Sure, they gave him a home which is awesome, but they also lead him to believe that he was being legally adopted, but instead made him sign a conservatorship that gave them the power to control his decisions and money. And nah, you don't want to be under a conservatorship; just Google Britney Spears' conservatorship.

It’s disgusting that this family sought to benefit from him. I still don’t understand from the family’s side, why a conservatorship was sought or even entered into. It makes no sense for the family to seek this unless the reason was for them to benefit somehow. Look at the movie deal that was supposedly entered into on his behalf by the family, any profits for Michael Oher are conspicuously absent, not something a conservator should be doing. They even reviewed that script that made him look mentally challenged and unaware how to play football. He is not mentally challenged at all and he was a heavily sought after D-1 level football player when they met him. Doesn’t really seem right for conservators to do, but sure does for people trying to sell a fake story with themselves as the white saviors where they have benefitted and will continue to benefit hand over fist. But hey people lapped up this lie of a story and still believe it. I wonder why?
