Going back and watching this, I'm realizing some of the defensive plays that were all made were insanely difficult. Outs 6, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, and, of course, 27 were far from routine. Really a testament to how good the Giants' defense was and had to be that night.

I had the TV off this night because I needed to study. But then I saw the box score through 3 innings that Cain hadn't given up a hit. I felt it could happen right then. Cain had come so close earlier in the season against the Pirates - only the PITCHER had a hit off of him. I watched from the 4th onward, and ended up not studying the rest of the night.

I love it. First thing he says. "Wow" I also love that he gives Posey a ton of credit for the game he called and caught. People sometimes forget it takes a catcher to even pitch. And every single perfect game, every single time a pitcher gets 27 BIG LEAGUE batters down without a single hit or walk given or allowed, every single time it is amazing and singularly special. It's rare and it's just a truly difficult thing to pull off. A beautiful game. A perfect game. Really no such thing as perfection. In major league baseball.... there is. But it is not something simply done. I love that.

I wish I could have been at this game. What a performance by Cain. On the other hand, I was in the park for Cain's domination of the Rangers in Game 2 of the 2010 World Series and that is a memory for a lifetime. The look in Cain's eyes while he warmed up before the game predicted the outcome. We had seats deep along the 3rd base line not far from the foul pole (Row 21/Section 131), so we got to see Renteria's homer up close and personal. This is the only baseball game I have ever attended where the excitement in the stands made it feel most like a major college bowl game or an NCAA March Madness game.

Great editing! Thanks for posting. I got embarrassingly emotional watching this. There was a young family sitting near us at this game who weren't baseball aficionados, and were perplexed why the crowd was so excited when it was 10-0 in the 7th. I asked the dad if he knew what was happening, and then explained we might be witnessing history. Loved seeing the two very young children scream and holler with the other 40,000 after the last out. I think that might have been their very first baseball game! And Cain was correct - NO ONE left until after his interview.

Matt Cain is an enigma. Here he is pitching a perfect game and absolutely wracking of the K's by just throwing relatively pedestrian fastballs right by big league hitters, both right and left handed. He trusts his stuff, he hits his spots, and he is unhittable. Amazing.

I remember that pitch at 4:47 so well and it was very close!!! As a Giants fan along with my dad watching this game live on television, this was one of the best Giants games I have ever seen. 2010 WS game 5 and 2014 WS game 7 come to mind.

Just the best commentators in the business. Calling every play for a dynasty worth of play. Giants baseball is something other ball fans cannot understand. It’s on a different level, entirely.

I remember watching this game...was closing out our bartender at El Burro in Campbell....had the doors closed, some employees, and a few people at the bar still....it was pure enjoyment watching this unfold. Always told people I talked to that Cain was underrated...for some reason the Giants could never score a run when he pitched...he lost a lot of 1 run games. Got his jersey and rock it every once in awhile.

I took an extra course during the summer of 2012 while attending JMU. One night, while studying, I took a break and saw that this game happened to be on tv in the lobby. I’ll never forget how nervous I was watching those final three outs. Go Giants!!

It’s an unpopular opinion, but Cain has always been my favorite Giants pitcher. Even when things were dicey, he always had an aire of calm. Practically a perfect general on the mound. Nothing fancy, but efficient. On THIS day, everyone stood up to appreciate that. Reminds me why I love Giant baseball.
