I was 13 years old and I remember that my dad somewhat offhandedly and at the last-minute said to my sister & I "hey, it's a beautiful day, let's go to a Sox game today!". We ended up going with my aunt and two cousins and in about the fourth or fifth inning I remember my dad leaning to my aunt and saying "hey Buehrle's got a no-hitter going here...". By the ninth we were all at the edge of our seats and when Wise made that catch at the wall, I don't think any of us had ever jumped higher out of our seats at a ballgame. Almost ten years later, I sometimes still cannot believe that I was actually at this game. I'm almost certain it will remain my favorite day at the park for the rest of my life.

+Brian Owens Very good point. In Germany, we don't have this system of regional announcers. If, for example, FC Bayern plays Hamburger SV in the league, cup or anywhere else you'll have a neutral announcer provided by the TV station. Buck Martinez is also biased towards the Jays and many say he's unprofessional, but I love him. Same with Harrelson.

Mark Buehrle is one of my favorite White Sox, too, Roger. I think what does it for me is how well he fielded his position. Over the course of his tenure with my South Siders he made some amazing fielding plays. Of course I will remember forever that perfect game. It happened to fall on the day of my father's funeral. My dad was the reason I was a Sox fan. I recorded games I knew I couldn't watch back then. And when I watched Buehrle spin his masterpiece it was with a few tears in my eyes because the old man wasn't there to watch it with me.

My mom called me after the top of the eighth and told me what was happening....so without telling anyone, I got in my car and went home. The first thing I see is that ball in the top of the ninth and immediately thought to myself that it was instant karma for just leaving haha. What a finish though. I'll always appreciate what Buehrle did for this city and for this team. A perfect game, a no hitter, hit a home run, and then the World Series. So glad I got to witness it all.

How I shared this on Facebook: For my White Sox friends, a day in baseball history. Almost forgotten is the miraculous catch that made the 25th out. For the record, I root for the Cubs over the Sox in head-to-head but have watched the Sox since childhood. My personal memorable moment was watching the Cubs' 2016 World Series win with my son. In my life, I've been to Wrigley about 100 times in parts of seven decades (1959-2014) ... but at least 50 Sox games. The only season tickets I had was a 19-game weekend package in 1983. I was at the 50th All Star game to see Fred Lynn's grand slam and game 3 of the 1983 playoffs against Detroit. I've collected 3 baseballs at old Comiskey and one batting practice ball in the bleachers at Wrigley. I'm a baseball fan from Chicago and will always laud the finest performances.

Buehrle is such an underrated pitcher. 60 (r)WAR over 16 seasons usually earns you some HOF talk. In fact, he is demonstrably better than several HOF pitchers, including the recently inducted Jack Morris.
@smartacus13672 жыл бұрын
Almost another perfect game along with this one, I’m pretty sure he would be the only pitcher in MLB history (or in a very long time) with 2 perfect games. Besides, the only base runner got picked off right away, you could make an argument for that being a perfect game, if it wasn’t based strictly by the definition of a perfect game
@scottdecker91153 жыл бұрын
You always know that 9 times out of 10, a perfect game is saved by a miraculous catch by an outfielder. Also, Mark Buehrle has always been a phenomenal athlete, but this has to be the pinnacle of his pitching career by far!

I’m from Miami, FL. At this point in my life, I was caught up in a lifestyle that was dangerous and the night before, I was getting dropped off home by a friend who was a “jesus freak”. Instead of dropping me off and leaving, he pulled into the driveway and turned the car off. I thought it was weird at first and when he began to tell me that he was going to pray to me and promised that I would see God in the next few days, I thought he was crazy. The next afternoon, I was hungover and withdrawing from the substance I took the night before. I turned on the TV and saw this game. It was the 7th inning and I had seen that Beuhrle had allowed no hits and no walks. I didn’t think much of it because I know how rare a perfect game is. As I watched the game, battling this splitting headache, I noticed they made a change in the outfield. With each out getting closer, I began to feel this unexplainable feeling inside me. When the outfielder, who had just been subbed in made the leaping catch, I began to get very emotional. I was in my house all alone, watching this game. When he got the final out and the announcer was screaming “Yes, yes, yes!!!”, I was bawling like never before. When Buehrle’s child was brought to him on the mound, I realized that I had just seen God. I called my friend up and he thought I was crazy but never the less, that was the moment my faith in a higher power was restored. Today I have 8 years clean and sober and I have a strong faith in a higher power. I will never forget this game.
