We gave him a lot of money which his stats didn't ultimately match but the help he gave to bring home the 2012 World Series made it worth it. He saved the season in Game 5.

Ah, bit harsh. It's understandable why they and many people felt that way. Giants were down 0-2 to Cincy then 3-1 to the defending WS champions with a lackluster Zito who got banged up vs. Cincy in only two or three innings, had a reg. season ERA over 4 and was pitching a game 5 on the road. Then he made his two best starts of the year. I've never met any Sports person that wasn't wrong a time or two. Except maybe "Ace" Rothstein.

Honestly, the only series that I saw people give the Giants was the 2014 WS and even that was about split down the middle. Every other playoff round from all 3 WS teams, the Giants were by far the underdogs going into it.

Prime example of why the pitcher needs to bat. This game was the climax but far from the only one. Standing O's for foul balls and pitcher homers made the game so much fun. Zito's 27 pitch at bat to win a need to win game that arguably gave them a playoff spot is one I'll never forget. 2 balls were thrown over those 27, and the 10+ foul ball's each receiving wild crowd celebrations were not only special, but mattered.

5:48 "Why is the shortstop covering?!?" Um...maybe because the ball was hit almost directly at the 2nd-baseman, so he was moving to field the ball initially and had no chance to cover the bag? 🤣

The 3 play sequence from 8:31 on, are just _swaggy_ defense: 1. Pence runs in for a shallow fly ball, slides and misses it with his glove but traps the ball against his wrist with his off hand. Just crude willpower, simply refusing to let the ball hit the ground. 2. Scutero runs back and then slides into a 360° pirouette, to make the throw to first on an awkward ground ball. He was just locked in and feeling it, gracefully making the play in one motion. 3. As routine a grounder as Sandoval has seen. But the runner has speed, so the Panda winds up, blowing a big bubble gum, and just _rockets_ a throw to first for the out. Dyansty shit.

That Sandoval home run call by Joe Buck was some of the weakest shit, playoff or otherwise. He couldn’t contain his distain for seeing his daddy’s Cardinals losing. He has got an iconic voice, and grown as an announcer as his career progressed, but as a Giants fan I’ll always hate him for this
