It’s truly crazy watching those franchises expand and develop over the decades and years, it’s like they mutated with the later films and became so unrecognisable, until course corrected by the latest legacy sequels that brought them back to the basics (Prey and Romulus, respectively). That being said, Predators is underrated as hell, I rate it after Predator as the second best in the franchise.

Oh, man. Predator 2 is my speed. It's either Predator 2, Predators or Prey as your preferred sequel given that the Yautja have had a better track record than Xenomorph XX121 when it comes to followups. If you don't like Detective Hartigan's battle with the City Hunter, you'll probably prefer Royce's adventures on the game planet. If you find Adrien Brody unbelievable as an action star, than the plight of Naru, who was the first person to make contact with these beasts, will be more your speed. You really can't go wrong with any of them IMO.

Watching AvP as big budget fan-fiction really does help. I think it’s a really fun movie. The sets look great, the Alien and Predator designs rocked. I really enjoy it for what it is. Requiem was trash though 😂

I really like the way you described the differentiation between Predator and Predator 2. The first is THE trademark Predator film, whereas in 2 the Predator felt shoehorned in.

I think what franchise is better depends on what you like more. If you want more scary and thoughtful horror than alien, if you want a more fun, high paced kinda scary but not really, then Predator

My boy, Sean, putting in the work this week! Love this tier rankings. Never seen an Alien movie in my life which seems blasphemous when I’m an 80s baby. Then again, I’ve never seen one Police Academy movie in my entire life. I may finally watch an Alien movie this week. I have seen three Predators movies: OG, Predators, and Prey. That’s probably the only three worth watching to begin with. I think Predators is fantastic and underrated from it’s initial reviews. I think the only Alien movies I will end up seeing are the first two and Romulus. I don’t have time to watch all 9 movies of it with some overlap with Predator. As for the better franchise, Predator has a higher batting average but Alien and Aliens are arguably better than Predator. But I love ‘87 Predator. Used to come on TV a lot and it’s a fun movie. Only Alien and Predators worth watching by general consensus…. Alien Aliens Predator ☑️ Predators ☑️ Prey ☑️ Alien: Romulus 3 down, 3 to go. A fairly mediocre year for sequels/prequels this year, huh? Fairly meh or forgettable except for a handful of them…. Mean Girls Dune: Part Two Kung Fu Panda 4 Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Bad Boys: Ride or Die A Quiet Place: Day One Inside Out 2 Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Despicable Me 4 MaXXXine Twisters Deadpool & Wolverine Alien: Romulus Still have sequels to Beetlejuice, Venom, Joker, and Gladiator coming up. I will give this year for blockbusters about a C+ so far. And for TV only a C as House of the Dragon S2 and The Boys S4 disappointed. Then I hear The Umbrella Academy final season was bad. The Acolyte is trash. Cobra Kai is still only one-third out but feels like they’re stretching it too much. My favorite movie of the year only has a 6.7 on IMDb and I watched it again last night. That’s Fly Me to the Moon. Love the 1969 vibes it brings. Then it’s probably D&W and Furiosa right after. But most of the movies with the exception of those two, Dune 2, Romulus, and Inside Out 2 had mostly very mediocre sequels. So far, no movie this decade has given me the joyous feeling that Top Gun: Maverick did back in 2022. That movie felt like a movie made in the 90s for a 90s audience. I rock a Top Gun: Maverick hat from AliExpress and it’s the best hat I got from that site. I didn’t have that much joy in the theater since seeing Jurassic Park, The Shawshank Redemption, and Face/Off in the theaters. Even Titanic, Revenge of the Sith, The Dark Knight, Infinity War, and Endgame didn’t make me as happy as Top Gun 2 did. That movie reminded us why we go to the theaters in the first place. Was it perfect? No. But it made so many people smile once they left the theater. It was better than it was supposed to be.

As a kid I grew up with the AVP movies so they're pretty nostalgic for me despite how pretty low in quality they are compared to the other films from each respective franchise. Coming out of fantastic films (IMO) like PREY and ALIEN: ROMULUS, I feel that we're in a better enough place to give a new AVP film a chance! Bring on the same writers, directors and producers from each film in order to perfect characters, scripts, look and feel of both creatures and we can finally make a solid AVP film of the modern era. I feel it's been said enough how boring and uninteresting human characters tend to take up most of the screen time from these films, but if they're written and portrayed in any was as they were in PREY and ROMULUS, I think we'd be in good hands!

If I ever get a chance to write & direct a Alien or Predator film, I'll make sure to take lots of inspirations from Cowboy Bebop, Trigun & Outlaw Star. I'll make each character as interesting or likable as possible to the point it becomes hard to tell who survives.

I’ve always personally preferred the Alien movies. I like the Xenomorph more, I like the spaceship sets more interesting than just the jungle. But if you look at each franchise (removing AvP because it counts for both), Predator only has one bad movie (The Predator). Even that one I still can have fun watching. Alien has more movies that you could consider an outright failure.

Only big difference, I have Requiem in the middle but that’s cause time/place where I was. The rest is almost the same order. Also, I have a tough time with Prometheus and Covenant. They both seemed off to me. Both okay but change it so they’re not Alien related.

Something about the sheer absurdity of the movie just makes me like it way more than I should. I recognize that the movie is trash, but you know what they say, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Very controversial take, but it’s my opinion! Anyways, great list!

Great vid concept Sean. Here is my Alien VS Predator ranking: starting with the movies I didn’t liked: 14. Alien 3. I just can’t get over on those first 5 minutes but as a film I’ll admit that it’s better than some of the movies I have higher on my list. 13. The Predator(2018). One of the most disappointing movies I’ve ever seen. Hated the silly tone. 12. AVP: Requiem. The movie is really dark and I couldn’t see anything in a large portion of it. 11. Alien: Resurrection. Never liked it and I think it’s silly. Now for the movies that are just ok for me: 10. Prometheus. It looks amazing but I didn’t liked the story so much. Also, hated some of the characters and their choices. 9. Alien VS Predator. I like most of it, but hated the fact that it wasn’t R rated. 8. Alien: Covenant. This movie is the definition of Mid for me. The movie looks great but the story is lacking for me. Now for the movies I like: 7. Prey. I like this movie, but not as much as other people. Just solid. 6. Alien: Romulus. I really liked most of it but the callback lines were just awful. 5. Predators. A great movie with some great aspects in my eyes, but I just didn’t care for the last act as I did with the first two. Now for the movies I love: 4. Predator 2. I love this movie and its Lethal Weapon meets Predator tone. I loved Harrigan as the protagonist and I actually prefer the final battle in this one over the OG. 3. Predator. A great movie. I loved everything about it, specially the cast and The Predator. 2. Alien. A classic movie and my favourite 70’s movie ever. A master piece. Loved Ripley and the creature design. 1. Aliens. My favourite sequel of all times. Loved the motherly theme of the movie. The cast is amazing, specially Newt, Hicks, Bidhop and Hudson. Ripley is such a badass in this one and the action is top notch!

Theres 3 top tier Predator movies (Predator, Predators, Prey)and 3 top tier Alien movies (Alien, Aliens, Romulus) I would say the worse Alien movies (Alien 3, Resurrection, Promethius, Covenant) are way more watchable than the worse Predator movies (Predator 2, The Predator)

I'll always stand by Alien 3 as a good movie. It's the perfect somber and fitting ending to the perfect trilogy. It was supposed to happen this way. Now Resurrection.....that movie belongs in the trash bin with AvP Requiem and The Predator. Such an abomination. Only the underwater scene is worth watching.

I understand your gripes about Alien 3, but putting it in the same tier as AVP Requiem and The Predator - seriously? It's also a much better 'Alien' film than Resurrection, in my opinion. The only other change I would make is I'd bump Prometheus up, but other than that I largely agree with this list.

Man. I get why some people don't like it but putting it with those 3 turd bucket movies is going too far lol. It was my 3rd favorite Alien movie but Romulus has pushed it down to 4th

Yeah, I'm a big fan of _Alien 3,_ as well. And it's way better than "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem," "Prometheus," & "The Predator."

I love Alien 3 (in Assembly cut ofc) precisely because you hate it. Sometimes it's #1 for me, depending on the mood. That impending doom atmosphere is unparalleled. Yes, it's supposed to be depressing, aggravating and uncomfortable.
