I watched the "how to group every guitar chord together" video (suprised I had not seen that one yet) and it was incredibly useful. And this goes right along with the shapes from that video. Thanks again for all you do to help others make their own personal improvement. You help me progress almost every day.

I know you're always recommending bands and songs, so I figured I'd throw one your way! Check out the band Turnover if you haven't already. Their new album Good Nature just dropped last month, and their other album Peripheral Vision is one of my favorites. Great under the radar alt rock band 👍🏼

Great crispy lesson. A band is playing a gig and they're a man down, you are the replacement musician, which band and which place in the band would you play, for one gig only. Your band is playing a gig, who would you have as a stand in musician and which spot would they play?

Hmmmmmm! I don't know, but I could stick that in chill licks without a 2nd thought. The addition of the 7th and 9th makes it more 'smooth licks' perhaps? I expect a bit more snap for my crispy SD

Can anyone explain why the Major 9 is in the key espacially on the 1 and the 4?
@christianwerth3601
@christianwerth3601 6 жыл бұрын
Certainly, the 1 and 4 both have all the intervalls of a major 9 (5 is missing the major 7). for long answer: You see the major 9 is made up of the root, the major third, the fifth, the major seventh, and the ninth( major second). For a chord (or arpeggio, same thing) to be in key it needs to use the notes of that key. We can build a chord starting from every note in the key, just as we can play a scale starting from any note in the key, we call those modes. modes are great to write in themselves, but also really helpful for understanding wich chords you can play in a certain key. The first mode (ionian/major scale) and the fourth mode (lydian) both have all of the intervals of a major 9, because they are two of the three major modes (with the major third) which also have the major seven, which mixolydian does not have. However, it is important to keep in mind that the major scale and funktional theory are not laws of nature, but only helpful tools or suggestions. use interesting chords, by mixing and matching scale tones or use chords that shouldn´t work in the key, like a major 9 as the 5 chord, maybe use the 4 minor, flat 6 major or flat 2 dominant (tritone substitution). experiment and listen, if it sounds good to you, thats the important part, most of the time your ear will confirm the theory ; ). I hope i did not complicate it to much and you understand everything, greetings from Germany oh and sean, if you are reading this, I really think you should do a video on tritone substitution
