I was totally frustrated trying to learn guitar years ago. I found a toy keyboard with a cassette tape. It had songs on one side for white keys only and songs for black keys only on the other. I jammed with that toy and tape for hours, best musical light bulb of my life. Thanks for posting this.

Sean congrats on your channel. I've been in education [usually in 'management'] for many many years - and the main thing I've learned is never to tell students something is easy or 'fun'. If they succeed then there is no big deal - but if they fail they are desolated. Learning is also not helpfully defined as a pastime, a hobby,as 'fin'. What is 'fun'? Learning has its rewards for achievement, even small steps, and that's where the emphasis should lie. I don't find even strumming chords 'relaxing' as some claim. I'm concentrating!

Thanks for this video. I'm that guy that put his guitar away for 20 years. Had played constantly for 15 years then got side-stepped to learn computer technology. Now retired, wished I could get that 20 years back. Playing every day again trying to get back where I was 20 years ago. Amazingly, much of it has come back, but training my fingers to go where I want has been the challenge.

The question about American Performer Tele and the EOB Strat really depends on what your looking to do.. the Tele will do everything you expect a Tele to do... It definitely keeps it's colors inside the lines. The EOB Strat has a mini humbucker in the bridge, a Texas Special in the middle position and the sustainer in the neck. It will do everything you expect of a Strat, and a lot more. If you're looking to explore sounds and make *synth'y" pads to loop in, it has a lot to offer. I've spend hours just exploring what I can do and have no means reached an end. One caveat, if you don't like a chunky neck, the EOB Strat is not for you. It's really up to what you're trying to do with the music. Personally, I like mixing it up so I have the EOB Strat, a MIJ offset Tele w/P90's, American Tele w/51 no-casters and a MIM Tele w/ no-caster bridge & twisted Tele neck.. to go with my other MIM and American Strats.. chasing tone and feel gets addictive.

I have an American Performer Telecaster HS just like the one Sean is holding, albeit in a different finish but otherwise identical, and I can vouch for it as a great value, great guitar. Super-versatile, so well built, and I can say as a relative newbie, very player-friendly. Highly recommend it.

I would love for someone (SEAN) to give some tips on how to take a song performed by a full band - something you hear on the radio with bass, drums, maybe keyboard, etc. - and strip it down to a sparser arrangement that sounds good on solo guitar. These are sometimes hauntingly beautiful (e.g., the cover of "Welcome to the Machine" that you did with Jaida). What kind of decisions do you make to keep the essence of the song while stripping it down to it's bare bone?

I have trouble practicing scales. Maybe it’s lack of attention span? I have learned enough chords to follow along with a song, if I have the chord charts in front of me. The one thing I noticed in your video today, was the descending chords. I would like to do that as an exercise. Run up and down with progressive chords that fit together. Can you help?

Yes I can play a scale starting with any finger but how would you incorporate chords into the melody? I'm not asking about theories but just your own thought process on what you think of when you have to play both chords and melodies as a solo performance like Joe Pass. Been stuck on this for so long.........

Ohhh you mentioned star wars in another video. That you dig listening to.the comics. Check out tarkin hunting vader. Grandma Tarkin (Grandmoff Tarkin). Vader accepts tarkins challenge to hunt him to the death using whateber empire assets he wants. Such a cool story of you dig vader Tarkin looks down on Vaders ability as just a hired goon usomg brute force, vader looks down on Tarkin as a feeble old fool who "knows nothing of the power of the Dark side. . . " its a cool story about how there is more than one way to skin a cat. People are tested , repects earned and its just a really fun tale from the empire And while i have a reason to talk star wars. . . . I dont like some of Disneys choices for the movies but to the people who thought Luke had to be an infalible Jedi god. . . How???? He was never properly trained. It makes semce Luke becomes a powerful force user but not a jedi or sith. . . It makes sense he becomes a grey Jedi who thinks he falls om the sode of light. Even in the original movoes Luke uses the dark side. Like when Jaba has his friends. The 1st force power you see him use is force choke. . . . Thays daddys favorite darkside power lol Luke is left to finish training on his own. He draws his owm conclusions and has no dogma , or.no evil villan to throw him off.course as a student of.the living force. No dark, no light. They believed Anakin to be the chosen one to.bring about balance by giving all the power to the light. Sound balanced? After anakin and palps destroyed the jedi order with order 66 anakin did bring balance. 2 sith, 2 jedi left Qui gon the jedi who fought so hard for Anakin to become a Jedi was a grey jedi himself . Thats why quigon wasnt on The jedi council. They didnt like that he believed im the living force instead of the dark and the light One thing i have learned in my life is good amd evil dont exist. You tell me.spmethings good or evil. . . Name anything. Even hitlers not off limits. I will show you how perspective makes ot wrong lol. Their is no right. Just whats right for us. Star wars originally tried to convey good vs evil but transformed in to a mirror of real.life. i think thats why i love it so much
