How many years does it take, in your estimating, to sand off paint and shave into wood with my fingers tips? (at 30 hours a week)?

@@seanmannguitar yeah, I've been playing my strat around 30 hours a week for 8 years and it's still pretty new looking. Is it the plectrum or nails or strumming that does the damage? Recently strumming has felt much more natural and now I hate being away from my guitar..

@@borischum5733 it depends what finish you’ve got. Most modern strats use a Polyester finish which will never wear away, I suspect this is the finish on your guitar. The guitar I use has a nitro finish which is what was used on vintage instruments and wears away after playing for a long time. I did the wear marks on this strat myself with sandpaper but in all honesty I regret doing it so I wouldn’t advise it! If you want a guitar that ages naturally I’d look at guitars with a nitrocellulose finish and no undercoat!
