I am descended from a family of farmers, and have many family members carrying on that tradition today. According to Grandma, one of her father’s favorite sayings was, “As a farmer, you spend half your life wishing it would rain and the other half wishing it would stop raining.” Thanks to you and all farmers. Please pray for our farmers around the world, for their safety and successful harvest each year!

I had a Border Collie that was like that, never begged and only focused on her job of playing. When she was 10 year old I bbq'ed some ribs for my dad and I. My dog smelled those ribs and decided she had saved up enough 'not begging' points to look at me and say I deserve some! Of course I let her spend those points. She never begged for anything else but we did cook ribs a few months later and she spent some more points at that time also!
@Uruz201220 сағат бұрын
That's one of the first things you teach a dog. Treats are a way to get a pavlovian response attached to your verbal rewards so the dog will accept praise. Then you back down on praise for expected behaviors until the dog just does what you ask because they understand they're being good without being told every time.

I saw where a couple had a car accident where their dog had been ejected from the car. They saw it running away and couldn’t get it to come back. They looked for several days ,putting up posters everywhere , posting on face book and checking shelters. A man with sheep noticed an extra dog herding his sheep and remembered seeing a poster about a missing dog. The dog had always been just a pet and had never been around sheep but instincts were strong.

Genetic background is strong in many dogs. That is why some people who buy purebred working dogs as pets sometimes have a terrible time with their behavior. The dog’s instincts are to work. They need to have a job or at least a lot of exercise to keep them from having annoying behavior and/or becoming destructive. The dog might not have enjoyed the job as much when winter set in. I would guess he was really glad to get home.

Watching this made me think of my old border collie. He was retired from the farm and he didn't care for staying in the house with lots of children (it stressed him out and he was constantly trying to herd them). So childless Uncle to the rescue. The vet thought he would live 6 months to a year when I first brought him in. He lived for 4 years to the ripe age of 18. He helped me break in my new dog for over a year before he finally crossed the rainbow bridge. He was a stubborn old cuss who was blind, mostly deaf, and missing most of his teeth, but he was happy patrolling the house and sleeping on a giant dog bed. He's chasing all the squirrels with no gray in his beautiful red coat now waiting for his family to come meet him.

She reminds me so much of my Tess Siobhan, especially with her looks. My girl-lacking any sheep to herd in a suburban neighbourhood-liked to herd anything that creeper into our yard. Shd also herded geese and ducks at a pond at a park nearby when I took off her leash and she automatically got into that crouching pose. The owner didn't like her "messing with his birds". I told Tess "That'll do" and "Come" which she did and let me put in her leash to go home-she thought. We stopped at PetSmart and picked out a new Frisbee and a few treats. She even got a doggie icecream-vanilla ice cream in a plastic cup with a Milk Bone inserted in the top. She loved it.

This video reminded me of the time a dog rounded up all the sheep I was supposed to be watching. The farmer assumed that because my father and grandfather were shepherds, i was also a shepherd at 12 years of age. While I was theoretically shepherding, I was also hedging and not paying attention. Usually, I would have the dog round the sheep up later in the afternoon, but around midday I turned around to see that the dog was herding about 150 sheep into their evening pasture. I could not stop her, for I had not trained the dog and did not know the whistles and commands. As a result, she completed the task, and all I could do was follow her and close the pasture gate behind the sheep. She looked at me with an expression of satisfaction, and the Farmer came along an sacked me for not being a good shepherd.

@@sroberts605 it’s been pretty hot these past weeks. In the high 90’s and hitting 102 a few days ago but the humidity was unusually low so that helped make it bearable plus air conditioner helps too. I love England too! When I watch TV it’s BBC😂. I’d love to visit during the spring and tour gardens. 😍 I’m heart broken about all the turmoil going on over there with free speech being trampled and everything else I hear about. Seems like it’s crazy everywhere.

She's so happy! You could tell she was going to be off on the run from the first moments in the first field. The sheep are being to good and not enough work for her. Love that she is all smiles.

The cows running with you was fun to watch. You appear to be doing a good job on the farm. Having worked on a few farms back when I was in high school I know how much work is involved and that you still take time to post these videos I appreciate your hard work 👍✌️☮️

Those are some healthy looking cattle. Kate just owns her title, “The Great”. Love to the pups, you and Stacey.
