sadly I have stopped doing creative things due to this pandemic I have to sell all of my 2 lenses just to keep my head above water but kept my camera with me. Don’t stop, get a cheap manual focus lens. I had to pawn my expensive Fujifilm lenses , so I am using a vintage MF lens that I picked up in a thrift store for $20. Sometime there is just no time to focus, but I take the shot anyway. Some of those totally blurry photos I like even more that way. Not having my AF lenses was actually an opportunity to be more creative with my photography.

Thanks so much. I'm turning 60 and being constantly bombarded by the coulda, woulda, shoulda questions. With an autistic son to provide for I desperately analyse whether I've done enough to prepare him for the world when I'm gone. Doubt is weighing heavily with me at the moment and it's a bit of a struggle. This video has given me a new way of looking at things 🙏. Photography is a wonderful stress relief method for me. Wandering the city with a camera in hand is my happy place..and we all need our happy place.

Someone else said it, that was the fastest 20 minutes in recent memory for me. So inspirational and thought provoking, I will likely watch this multiple times over the coming weeks. Things seem to come together for me when hiking in the woods or sitting by a stream after a seed has been planted. I think that is where this leaves me. A seed planted and now comes the nurturing, the weeding, and the protection as the fullness of time passes. Wonderful video Sean.

Another outstanding resource for navigating life is Richard Leider's book: Repacking Your Bags. He defines the good life as "living in the place you belong, with the people you love, doing the right work, on purpose." And those are the 4 bags to repack when you ( like all of us eventually) have discovered the journey you're now on is not the one you packed for: Place, Relationships, Work and Purpose. Hi Sean I am approaching the night in my journey. A photographer and teacher for 60 years. I like how you reference Jung. As a photography teacher my main text was As You Think by James Allen. Basically photographers need to know all the camera gear is just a pencil. That a pencil cannot write a story and a camera cannot either. The most important thing any photographer needs to know is themselves and their place in the world and how they can make the world a better place. Jung talks a lot about the 'Collective' in which he describes how all humans are connected on a spiritual level through dreams, intuition and feelings. This idea changed my life because I could reflect on all the times people and ideas have magically appeared in my life. Yes, Jung's God, the collective, works through people, are the people and we are all one big family. This sobering and humble thought can help you realize, awaken, to the idea that we are all born to help each other, a network of kindness and love. So the meaning in your photographs helps inspire, educate and support others and is all about you tapping into yourself, meditation, and let the groundswell of needs, inspirations and joy flow for the benefit of others, which in turn benefits you the most because you have become a functioning member of the collective in the positive.

In my drumming life I learned what not to do in my new photography life. Exception is gear.... I like gear lol. Right now my photography is still juvinile in its age but growing up fast. Wow, another fantastic video that I relate to so much, not only in my efforts as an amateur photographer, but also in my career as a physiotherapist. Like your "Mentors" video that I have watched several times because it was so beautiful, I think I will be coming back to this one several times, but for different reasons. My studies of psychology were woefully inadequate, and there are some insights that I can really use, andI find things like this very useful. Keep going where you feel like going with these videos. Insightful and spot on. I started out as a musician with a modest career which led to 3 albums and touring etc. Looking back on that I feel that the demo days are what I remember most fondly. The experimenting and the total focus on what we wanted, rather than looking at what everybody else did. As a photographer I started out the same way. Head down and learning everyday. And then came the next phase - looking at others. Way too much. Lost my own reasons for doing it, and now slowly coming back again to thinking about the why. And yes, I will soon enter the second half of life ;)
