Symbolic restarts are important. As a young man all my mentors wore hard hats and work boots. At a very low point in my life one of them took a knife and cut my bootlaces in half, straight up the middle. Then dropped a new pair of laces at my feet and said " same boots, same you, new situation. Now lace them up and get going"....I appreciate the work you do and the good it does for all who see it.

"the next year, on paper, is looking pretty good..." - which paper is that? I want some of it. "Courage doesn't always roar. You made this old girl cry. Thank you so much Sean. Getting up from life‘s challenges used to be so easy but since I lost my brother to CVD in South Africa (my only sibling), it‘s been as if the wave was just too high for me to come back up and breath. Photography that brought me so much joy, now just is a reminder of how much I lack. The slump is very real this time and I am on a road to finding my way back to my love. You are always helping us and I hope that you too have someone who helps you. It‘s not easy to keep the joy with so much happening around us.

I couldn’t agree more. I find myself going through this cycle several times a year. Over time, I’ve slowly learned that it’s okay to step back, take a breath, and give myself the space to think logically. When I do, I’m reminded that returning to my foundational "why"-the core reason behind what I’m doing-often serves as the perfect mental reset. It helps me regain clarity, refocus my energy, and move forward with renewed purpose. Thank you Sean.

I have always found your videos somewhat inspirational. You don't just talk about photography--you talk about life, and the message transcends many levels. I remember seeing the video on your grandfather a few years ago. At the time, I thought to myself how important something like that would be in the future. My grandfather died in 2005. A few years ago, my grandmother passed away and as we were going through her house, I came across my grandfather's journal from WW2. He was a dentist in the war and the journal detailed his journey across the ocean and time he served in India and Burma. I immediately thought of the video you made with your grandfather--as I had recently watched it. In that moment, I thought if only I had a chance to record a conversation with my grandfather about his life...and that I had missed the opportunity. That generation had tenacity, grit, and resolve...and I often think of my grandfather and what he would say in moments when I am down. Thanks Sean for all you do.

As always, inspirational, eloquent. Even your body language, the way you sit leaning forward, enthused about what you are sharing, is a gift. I would add one other thing, that helped get me get stay the course and fall in love with photography even more: support from other photographers, who listened to my kvetching, let me douse them with my doubts and fears, and then just talked me through the points you mentioned. It has been about 7 years since my last episode of "drop out doubt" and now, when I start to feel it coming on, I simply let it happen, knowing full well it will pass because of all the positives you mentioned. I have faith in my talent and my joy in practicing photography. Thank you.

@seantuck , I watch 2 channels in order to keep the dream alive, I’m 56 this year, my camera died some years back, my prized photography is scattered across dying drives, I don’t have a computer of my own or one capable of video editing etc. and yes giving up would be easy but there are stories there of seal rescues, 133 days of owls in the nest to adulthood, 3 years looking for a Caracal to photograph and then getting some images but I am stuck with no way forward for over a decade now, I cannot give up even though there is seemingly no way forward. I watch your channel and Phillip Bloom, the Beauty of these presentations and in your case , the message, keeps me going forward, thus my posting the Peter Gabriel link, worth listening to when everything else says otherwise, you know how challenging South Africa can be, in that challenge a history of tenacity, there is no other choice.
