Loved this reaction, and couldn't click the subscribe button fast enough. Sohyang makes even more choices than the apparent ones, because she also does all of her own arrangements, including this one. Other artists and groups have attempted her arrangement and none have been able to match this performance. I agree, not only is she one of the best vocalists on the planet, she is possibly one of the best singers of all time. I would second the above recommendation of her song 'Everyone' in which she takes you on an EPIC musical journey. Be sure to watch the Vimeo version w/ subtitles for the Korean sections. Another vocalist you should explore is a new singer from the Philippines named Morissette Amon along with the a capella groups Pentatonix and Home Free. All will give you plenty of fodder for analyzation and just pure appreciation for the artistry. Morissette, while a completely different type singer, is the only other female artist that I put alongside Sohyang in singing ability. Looking forward to your insights and journeys of discovery. PS. She is not only an incredible vocalist but an incredible human being also. She has turned down many contract offers from the big labels, including Sony last year, as she says that it is her goal to use her voice in order to bring comfort to people going through difficult times. GREAT!! reaction. Congratulations!! Reacting to the PHENOMENAL So Hyang, is one of the best investments of your time. This song is just a small sample of what this EXTRAORDINARY singer can do with her flexible voice. Her angelic/powerful vocals and breath control are unmatched. Reactors who are vocal coaches and opera singers agree, So Hyang's technique is FLAWLESS and EFFORTLESS. She is also a published author of several books. Furthermore, she lectures about song and vocal technique at a university in South Korea. When she sings in Korean, it is not necessary to understand the lyrics. So Hyang is BRILLIANT at conveying the message/meaning of every song she sings. BTW, she speaks fluent English, as if she were born in the USA. She often visits her sisters in-law, who live in America. She has been called the Korean Mariah Carey. Love seeing peoples faces when they first see Sohyang for the first time. The raised eyebrows and open mouths are precious. I discovered her about 2 months ago and my face seems to be permanently affix in a look of amazement. Sohyang and Dimash are definitely one of a kind. Can't go wrong reacting to any song from Immortal Songs 2 or King of Mask Singers contest, both of which she won. I suggest from Immortal Songs 2, YOU RAISE ME UP, LEAN ON ME, and EVERYONE and from King of Mask Singers, HUG, BREATHE, and MONA LISA. EVERYONE is a masterpiece. FYI, Sohyang studied with Seth Riggs one of Michael Jackson's vocal coach's when she was in L.A. Thank you for the wonderful reaction/review! I agree with you on every point you made, especially about her bravery. I believe her fearlessness comes in part from the confidence in her vocal skills, but in larger part from trusting God to lead her. On the stage, she commits everything to God. So, while she is fearful as a human being, she is fearless in God💪. Reaching that high level of the performance, she is actually giving her own testimony, saying "I'm not afraid. The Lord will help me pull this off." This explains why the performance has so much spiritual power in it. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing and plz keep on your journey with Sohyang :)

All her songs in Immortal Song 2 are just as good. Sohyang confirmed that Everyone is her most difficult song. Sohyang said in an interview for King of Mask Singer that she had to sing a song a few hundred times to get it all down. Feedback: If you pause the video, can you rewind it alittle before you play it again. That way, nothing will be missed.

I'm very surprised that you weren't so impressed by 'arirang alone' when you watched her before. I dont know which performance you saw but her rendition of the song on 'immortal songs 2' is legendary & I assume that you did not see this performance. I would give this performance 5 minutes of your time. Not only is she a wonderful vocalist,not only technically but with her amazing ability to emote & tell a story, but she is a master arranger & is always responsible for every aspect of one of her performances. She can literally sing any genre,her superior technical prowess allows this, but her heart is with gospel (wait til you hear her rapping!). Dont beat yourself up for not knowing about her because many people have the thoughts as to why such an amazing singer is not famous worldwide, I mean she can more than hold her own with the heavyweights of today, mariah, celine, jennifer hudson & even whitney,wherever she is resting. The answer is that its sohyang's choice,she doesn't seek fame & fortune. Many if the big record companies have tried to sign her but she has always turned them down, instead choosing to do her own thing when & where she wants & her goal is to use the gift that god has given her to help bring some pleasure to those that are experiencing troubled times, but happily for us,the power of youtube allows us to experience her wonderful talent & spread the word about her. She has to be the most famous 'unfamous' woman in the world. There are many live performances from around this time when she was involved in this show & the odd festival performance or for t.v but she doesn't exactly flood the market but she had been very productive during the pandemic & has been involved in a project called 'begin again korea' where a small ensemble of singers/musicians go in to work places & public spaces & put on mini gigs of a more acoustic nature to very small audiences(obv because of social distancing). They are essentially 'busking', but with limited musical accompaniment & backing vocals she really excels & as the token 'elder' of the group she really shows the younger popstars how its done( even with the rapping) there are many shots throughout the series which show her fellow performers looking at her in disbelief & sometimes reduced to tears as she's performing. The first to be released from this series that featured was her performance of WH's 'i will always love you' & all I can say is OMG!! You must watch this & other performances from the 'begin again korea' series to get an up to date example of where she is vocally at the moment,I swear she gets better as she gets older!!! Thanks for the reaction.I am Korean and a big fan of Sohyang. Kpop is not just about idol music, but there are excellent solo vocalists, various musicians, and artists including Sohyang. Representatively, there is "Forestella", a crossover group, and "Hoppipolla", the winner of the superband tv audition program. And recently, there is a metal vocalist named Jung Hong-il who was runner-up in the Korean TV show 'Singagain'.

We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such POWER it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself (with the input of her musical assistants), teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese. Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of “You Raise Me Up” before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpbCfWylm82Iqpo She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere! You are going to get a lot of suggestions from this same show (Arirang, Lean on Me, Raise Me Up) which are all incredible but very much geared to the spectacular. She said that her appearances on the show meant so much to her that she prepared and delivered them like it was the last one she'd ever give and as you see here it really showed on stage. What her fans love about her is that she never fakes it, coming from a background in the Church she sees her mission as bringing comfort to people and her technique is only ever used to advance the story she's telling. I still cry watching her perform songs I've seen 100's of times and I am convinced it's because in addition to her technical prowess as a singer she just radiates goodness and joy on stage. As I've stated in a few other threads I'm not a believer myself but she might be the best evidence that there actually is a God. For future reactions the songs above are obviously great, but she just finished a stint on a series in Korea called Begin Again that has her busking around the country with a group of other great singers performing acoustic arrangements of popular Korean and English pop songs. Would highly recommend I Will Always Love You, If I Ain't Got You, Love Poem and Stay. Also if you want to be legends do a react to Day Day where you get to hear The Queen speed rap in harmony! Honestly this rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is my favorite only because of its emotional impact on me when I saw Sohyang for the first time. Sohyang adapts her style to the material so sounds different (but still Sohyang) when singing gospel (Everyone), American pop (I Have Nothing, I Will Always Love You, I'll Be There, I Won't Give Up), jazz (Misty is wonderful), Disney princess (Korean language release of Moana), musical theatre (Maria in Korean "The Sound of Music"), Mandarin folk-pop (Sweet as Honey), rapping (Day Day), many soundtracks for Korean dramas, etc. She has performed with David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton, etc. so is hardly unknown to the American music industry.

Her fans like me even after listening to the same song many times still get chills listening to her! I think if we step away from technical abilities and focus on the thing that makes her truly outstanding, you will feel her total commitment to the message of the song! She believes in what she is singing and connects with the emotional needs of the listener. The second I heard her the first time I knew hearing her live was on my bucket list! By the way she does her own arrangements and interpretations and sings like this even though she has a medical condition that causes her to have frequent pneumonia and she sings in pain from the scars in her lungs!

Not even a min in and I knew I’m gonna love this. You guys had this lively chatroom atmosphere on top of being informative. Totally made my day, thank you. For your next, check out her rendition of “If I ain’t got you” by Alicia Keys. It’s a more intimate acoustic setting. My fav performance of her from 2020 and boy was the year packed with dozens of her masterpieces on the Beginagain Korea show. Btw she is a music professor herself and does all of her arrangements. And as you’ve mentioned, she is indeed a veteran who’s worked on her craft around 2 decades to be where she is today. A cancer survivor, an author and a devout Christian who chose to remain an independent artist till today, doing the kind of music she believes was her calling, in the process turning down several offers from both local and international music labels over the years And while she has kept herself lowkey with not a single social media account till date, it wasn’t long before she eventually blew up on youtube, becoming one of the top most reacted vocalist worldwide. Mostly due to the solid fanbase she gradually earned esp. among vocal enthusiasts circles and professionals. Her many covers of classics often gets the original artists/composers, the likes of David Foster, Michael Bolton, Josh Groaban, to reach out to her and do concerts together. A master of the craft setting the gold standard for her generation and at the same time, a true enigma as an artist and a humble person at heart. She’s definitely an inspiration of our times.

11:35 HaHa. Actually that was a big applause considering that they are Korean audience. In Korea it's a really really really big event to receive a standing ovation even if from a few audiences. Koreans usually don't give a standing ovation due to our cultural habitus. We are a bit conservative and reluctant to express our feelings directly. Although the younger generation is changing little by little as they encounter Western culture, standing ovation is very rare for Koreans compared to the United States and Europe. When she sang "Mona Lisa" on 'King of Mask Singer' one of the panel in the show was shocked by surprise witnessing the audience giving her a standing ovation and couldn't believe in his eyes. That could be answer for your question.

For those who love Dimash, another must see singer is Zhao Shen from China. Because of his small stature, feminine disposition and voice, he was often bullied in school. Never thinking that he had what it takes to be a singer, he went tot he Ukraine to become a dentist. While there, he was convinced that he did have a great singing ability, thus transferred his major to music. Thank goodness he did. As an introduction into Zhao "Charlie" Shen, begin with his premiere performance on the Voice of China singing HuanYan. After this first video, move on to his versions of "Memory", and "Time to Say Goodbye". For something different from him, watch his version of "Let It Go" and "Monsters". Last, but definitely not least (there is so much more from him), enjoy the videos, "This is Me" and a very unique and fun song (one of my favs) "Da La Beng Ba". His biggest success is the song "Big Fish".

And folks, Sohyang has only ever had _five_ sessions with Seth Riggs while on vacation in California in 2009 or 2010. Other than that she is a 100% self taught singer. Personally, I think she has a genius level IQ. She also taught herself to speak English from watching "The Little Mermaid" many, many times as a kid. Normal people just can't do those sorts of things! 🤷‍♂

SoHyang does all of her own arrangements. She never sings a song as it is written. One year, she came to the U.S to an NBA game and sang our national anthem. There is a video. She puts on a masterclass every time she sings. Her live performances sound so clean, they would like a studio recording.

I am sure many people are recommending Everyone (vimeo version rather than the youtube version) but I highly suggest you try reacting to her other songs first as Everyone is considered her most difficult and one of a kind peak performance. Definitely leave the best for last or until you feel comfortable enough to know her singing well cause you will be blown away. Thus, I suggest Lean On Me, Arirang Alone, I have Nothing and You raise me up as the more common starter pack.
