That is really funny Steve!(thanx) ...Every Jaws sequel suffered from diminishing returns... The only good thing about Jaws 2 is Roy Sheider and that's it(not the screenplay, not the shark, etc.)...It's too bad that Spielberg didn't do it, but he had already made his all-time masterpiece with the original... Book of Shadows : Blair Witch 2 is another sequel that was not great. And what sucks is that it Joe Berlinger, who did the Paradise Lost documentaries, original idea for the sequel was much more interesting than what we got, and the studio completely screwed it all up with the constant camera cuts, inconsistent pacing, and dated Nu Metal soundtrack. I will say the only thing(s) about BW2 i still find enjoyable were the film's score, the film's atmosphere, and Kim Director as the goth chick in the movie. I do wish we would get a director's cut of the movie in the future.

Exorcist 2: The Heretic. It has none of the scares or iconic moments of the original. An American Werewolf in Paris. Whereas the original London movie was a great movie that blended horror with comedy to great effect, had likeable characters you cared about along with groundbreaking FX and iconic scenes, the Paris sequel is the complete opposite. The sequel just felt like a bland 90's teen slasher movie with terrible-looking (even for their time) CGI werewolves thrown in.

@@richardpeiser4359 Burton didn't want to be there because of his breakup with Liz and struggles with alcohol overtaking his life. He also wasn't the first choice for the role, Jon Voight was (and would've made more sense). Linda Blair was also vocal that the original script was indeed good but constant rewrites ruined it. I'd blame Rospo Pallenberg for those, and Boorman for not reining his creative collaborator in. In the end, E2 is a mess...but it's a gorgeous-looking one, with a great Morricone musical score, and it raises spiritual themes that are less in-your-face and heavy-handed than the original.

Problem with The Heretic is it originally started off with a kick-ass script - especially the ending/climax. Then the cuts and re-writes because of time and budget and what ended up being released was a complete night and day from the original idea/script. All the blame goes to the big wigs at Warner. The wanted another Exorcist film and they wanted it to make the kind of money the original pulled in but were too stupid and greedy and forgot to make money you gotta spend money. I really really hope that story of how audience members chased studio execs out of the theater and down the street is true, lol.

I agree with you guys about the Hellraiser sequels, but at least 2 respects the world and Pinhead's presentation created in Barker's original. He wasn't even a "villain" in the first two, but a tool used by Frank and Julia - the real actual villains. Afterwards, they turned Pinhead into Freddy Krueger with body-piercings which totally misses the point of the original character.

To be fair, this movie (known as "Godzilla's Revenge" in the American market) was always intended to be both specifically for children and distinct from all the other films in the Godzilla series. I can attest that for me and the other kaiju fans in the neighborhood when we were young kids it was our favorite Godzilla film, so evidently the director had succeeded with respect to his target audience. It is also worth noting that this is one of the very few Japanese Godzilla films of the Showa era that was actually greatly improved by the English language soundtrack for the American market including some new original music.

Although I originally hated it (and it's not what I'm here about), I'll say that I've come to "mildly" appreciate the second Exorcist (Heretic), and Chris is right, the Scream Factory release is nice b/c of the inclusion of both cuts. It's a quality release. And p.s. Linda Blair never looked better than she did then, in the mid to later 70s. So there's that. The film's not all that horrible. Overall though, it's a quasi-boring and confusing shell of the original. Should have been much better. BUT....... "Exorcist III" (1990) is not only great, I put it up there with the iconic/classic 70s horror films. It's got that kind of palpable essence of good & evil and the powerful, hair raising effect of true fright! Not to mention the quality and panache of those well made horror films of the past. The movie marries all of those excellent cinematic qualities to the acting chops of George C. Scott, Brad Dourif and Viveca Lindfors. Saw it in the theater with my 12 year old nephew in 1990. We were loving everything about it, enjoying another great day with a matinee scare flick feature.......and then, that ultimately frightening scene with the hooded nun and the giant surgical shears happened. Joel (my nephew), for real, jumped out of his seat in stunned fear. He then insisted that we leave. Not sure I've ever seen any human being as freaked and scared as Joel that day, in that moment. Once we were outside in the sunshine, he started chilling down and eventually wanted go back in to watch the rest. So we did. And this is one of great things about horror movies. Good ones. Especially when you first experience them in your youth. They become a sort of "nostalgic badge of honor" for the rest of your life. Joel always remembered that day together and that scene remained as his favorite and most scary of all time. I personally find that "killer nun" scene to be the true show stopper, within a film that delivers on all levels. And I think this particular moment of fright works so beautifully (in horror terms) because of the way Blatty takes such delicate, deliberate (and quiet) time in leading up to that perfectly executed moment. It occurs later in the film as well, when you're not really expecting such a shock. Moreover, he expertly delivers a jump scare earlier in this scene, so your more in a state of calm trust when it happens. Just brilliant!! If only all (or most) sequels were as fantastic as The Exorcist III. Marc ⚡ p.s. the great Viveca Lindfors, in that small, but highly effective roll as the catatonic nurse....that sends some shivers up the spine as well And the score too. Excellent score. Great sound! The score really drives home the scares in some of these impactful scenes.

I actually love Halloween 6. Halloween 5 and H20 are way worse for me. I think part 6 has a great atmosphere. And I'm one of the few who think the theatrical cut is much better than the producer's cut. The massacre scene in the end is so cool and it's not included in the PC at all. Agree with Maniac Cop series though, I love the first one but the second is even better. A pure classic. Watched the third one once and that was enough. Edit: and I agree with Survival of the Dead too, from the first CGI blood spurt I was just waiting for it to end.

Hellraiser Bloodline was the “in space” film and as we all know when they have to take a franchise to space - Critters 4, Hellraiser 4, Jason X, Leprechaun 4 - it’s code word for suck. It’s Alive 3 was pretty bad. Return of the Living Dead 4 and 5 were pretty awful. There’s also every Amityville after 2 in my book.

Hellraiser 3 isn't a terrible movie, but it's not very good either. It's very disappointing because I really like the first two - interesting movies besides being horror movies. I disagree with Chris's comment that Aliens 3 doesn't follow Aliens. It does. He's right that it didn't follow up on a couple things that were established in Aliens, such as Ripley's relationship with the guy and the kid. So it is disappointing in that way. However, it does follow what happened before. The girl from Aliens was also too old to do a sequel that immediately followed - kids grow up faster than adults. So, the sequel would have had to take place a couple years after Aliens ends. Without the kid they were able to follow it right up. I like the first AvP movie. I like how the woman and the Predator team up at the end. The sequel is not very good though, so I agree with Pete's choice. They should have brought back the woman with the scar somehow. The comics did it right.

I recently rewatched the entire Jaws series with my daughter. I told her we didn't need to go past Jaws 2, but she insisted. Revenge sucks, but on rewatch I think 3 is the worst of the bunch. The effects are terrible and it is really boring. At least the 4th is so ridiculous it is fun. The 3D one is not fun at all. Even my 11 year old thinks so.

I seen a lot of bad sequels in my time. The ones I hate the most are, Alien 3 & Alien Resurrection, Friday The 13th Part 5, Tremors 3 & 4, First Blood and all the sequels that followed it, disliked Die Hard 2 as I liked the 1st and 3rd film the most, Mad Max 2 & Mad Max 3 however I really enjoyed Mad Max Fury Road a lot, Diary Of The Dead is terrible, could have been a lot better. And this one might surprise a lot people but I really didn't like it because the story wasn't good as the first film and has two big plot holes which this film shouldn't even exist in the first place. And that's Terminator 2 Judgment Day. I really enjoyed The Terminator when I saw it for the first time, such a dark yet action packed film with horror elements that told a really well crafted story. T2 on the other hand just throws the story out the window and focus too much on action, quick pace scenes, has this very cheap villain who isn't unstoppable force like the T-800 in the first film and the violence and darkness has been toned down a lot compare to the first Terminator which was very dark. And the two plot holes in T2 are, the time machine used was destroyed and it never shows the resistance rebuilding the time machine or Skynet. 2nd plot hole is the first terminator was destroyed at the end of the first Terminator and yet comes back in T2 like nothing ever happened to him! I really dislike films that bring back characters that were killed off in the first films and them continuing where they left off. Proof that you can't EVER sacrifice action, style or anything without a good story. You need substance in your film, novel, tv show or even a video game to make it work. Then you can throw in whatever you want. But you need a good story to go with it. Doesn't have to be heavily detailed story it can be a simple plot that just works and has all this good stuff. Kind of the same problem I had with John Wick 3, it just all about non-stop action with no story to go on just characters killing each other for the sake of our amusement. However out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series I felt the 3rd film was the best one. While the 2nd TCM film is goofy at times but has it moments, the 3rd film I really enjoyed the most. And I remember enjoying Alien Vs Predator Requiem for what it was when it came out, I'll have to see it again.

Hey, Lee... I'm like totally on board with you on Die Hard 2...Wow, what a stinker of a film!...The problem begins immediately with Bruce Willis who looks completely BORED throughout... It's like the producers said: "Let's get all the original cast members back and recreate the magic of the original."...... Well, we now know there was NO magic left... Alien 3 sucks b/c the beginning 20 minutes of the film sucks!.... It steals the life out of whatever comes next(I still have yet to make it past that point)... Are we watching the same T2?... @@richardpeiser4359 My problem with Die Hard 2 is they took novel that wasn't part of the series, 58 Minutes by Walter Wager and sliced in characters that won't part of that novel. I mean, is that hard to come up with a script than lazily stealing scenes from another novel? However, Die Hard 3 was a lot better. Yes, Alien 3 sucked! I was so bored and hated it. However, it wasn't David Fincher's fault as he had no control over the script. Glad he didn't quit after that as he went to make such great films like, Seven, Fight Club and Panic Room. But when I watched the 4th Alien film I didn't make it through, halfway it I shut it off because it was making me angry how bad it was.

I watched all the Jaws films in a row a couple of weeks ago. 2 was not as good as I remembered. However 3 was awful; plot, pacing, effects. Nothing was good about it. 4 was bad but nowhere near as bad as three. Once you get over the fact that the brother dies at the beginning and the idea a shark wants revenge, it’s reasonably directed.

Start with Jaws. Jaws 2 wasn't bad but the next two descended into awful and God awful. I like all the Halloween sequels to some degree save one, 6. What the Halloween movies had was a continuity problem after the 1st two. The only tie in with 3 was the concept of Samhain. Michael wrote on the school blackboard and 3 turned into a concept. 4 & 5 were fine. They set up that Laurie died in a car crash leaving a daughter who became Michael's target. 6 showed a true "we really don't know where to go from here moment." So let's just tie it up around a satanic cult concept which was a cop out and pretty well made 6 useless. Liked H20 but it sort of made 4, 5 & 6 irrelevant. Suddenly Laurie is alive and has moved west with a son. No mention of a daughter. The follow up was ok but it put forth an interesting scene where Laurie free falls several stories out of a hospital window. The plot was kinda weak, too. Always got the idea Michael's sole purpose was to track down Laurie and put an end to her existence. So, what was his motivation for going back to the original murder house. His sister is dead. His task was completed. Moving forward, big surprise, Laurie is still breathing and once again has a daughter but no son. And despite all the continuity issues I can still watch all the sequels except 6. It's the only one I don't own.

For me, the worst horror sequel is ALSO the worst sequel to any movie of any genre ever..."I Spit on Your Grave: Deja Vu". This is not part of the reboot series, but the actual sequel to the 70s original. It's a movie so inept that one character says that Johnny (the guy who lost his manhood in the bathtub in the first movie) was "like a brother" to him. However, if you do the math, this person would not have even been born yet when Johnny died 40 years earlier, so it's impossible that he ever met Johnny, let alone had some deep brother like connection to him....And did I mention this nonsensical crap rambles on for 2 and a half hours?
