Genesis became a favorite of mine in high school. The record I bought - WIND AND WUTHERING. It was Christmas season, 1978; my friend Frank and I had two dates one evening (I with his sister). We were at the now defunct mall -The Shore Mall in West Atlantic City - when I bought the record while "Christmas" shopping. When we made it to the car, Frank's sister - my date - began complaining of stomach issues. She suddenly yelled to us to "Get a bag!" Frank's date grabbed one of the shopping bags, from the record store with WIND AND WUTHERING in it! I quickly whipped the record out and left her with the bag. I do not recall anything happening...I do remember crashing out to the album, and loving it. It remains right up there with SELLING ENGLAND...as my favorite Genesis releases. Yeah, all ended well that evening.

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Fun story about you and Chris. Personal pick today? As much a story about a band, loosening up the parents and an album. This would have started somewhere in the spring of 1970 at the family dinner table. Strictly at 6PM and always the full family, the parents often wanted to discuss what books we were reading, what music we were enjoying, school, friends, etc. At one particular dinner, can remember the oft-mentioned older brother bringing up that he had heard the debut Black Sabbath album and he was looking to by it soon so he could play it more. Dad, the Southern Baptist, quickly looked up, and wanted to know about the band and songs. After a little discussion, the parents concluded brother likely wasn't mature enough for the album and they would not be comfortable with it in the house. Subject closed....you would think. So when the Paranoid album - the album of this story - came out just after school started in the fall of 1970, the oft-mentioned older brother did as most teenagers then would do, he bought it anyway, brought it into the house, and with his common line "John, you have GOT to hear THIS" he added that the parents were not to be told it was a Black Sabbath album. So we listened while Dad was at work and Mom was out of the house. Amazing record and enjoyed to this day. Bought my own copy years later when the brother moved out since I could always borrow his. Sometime either after Christmas of 1970, the parents were talking to him about all the albums he was playing and the brother approached the Black Sabbath. Dad wanted to see the Paranoid album. Thanks to the gods that it was nothing like that first album cover and it appeared Dad thought it was the first album. The parents then loosened up a bit and said the album seemed fine and discussion ended. Not the first time the parents loosened up from what their teenagers were reading and hearing. But of all the times the brother brought me to listen to it, this was the only covert record. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next story.

Today its Boogie With Canned Heat it was their 2nd album which was released in 1968. Coming after their appearance at Monterey and before Woodstock. The classic lineup was on this album Bob Hite lead vocals. Al Wilson Slide Guitar Harmonica and vocals. Henry Vestine lead guitar. Larry Taylor bass and Fito del la Parra drums. Canned Heat helped make Blues popular again especially with the hippie crowd. I first heard of them from one of those tv ads for K Tels hits of the 60s albums. The song was Going Up The Country i never heard a voice like that then i started hearing a song on radio the clincher for me though was seeing clips from Monterey and Woodstock i was sold. I loved their sound and the mix of blues and boogie. It was Boogie With Canned Heat that caught my eye first with that cover. It was loaded with great songs among them are Evil Woman. World In A Jug. Amphetamine Annie. On The Road Again and their first big jam Fried Hockey Boogie. I still pull this masterpiece out its that good. Sadly only Fito de la Parra is still alive and active from the classic lineup. Fito and the new Canned Heat just released earlier this a new cd titled Final Vinyl. I hope its not the last.

Day 16 This story is about Led Zeppelin II. I bought this album from a catalog in November 1969 it had just come out in October 1969. My cousin was jealous that I had it before she did. I was going to visit her in the city and she wanted me to bring this album with me so we could listen to it. Her parents took us to the record store so we could buy some records. I was able to find the debut album of Led Zeppelin. We had a lot of fun that week playing all the records we had bought at the store. Both of us loved those Led Zeppelin albums and we listened to them all week long while I was at her house. My favorite songs are “Whole Lotta Love”, “What is and What Should Never Be”, “Heartbreaker”, and “Living Loving Maid ( She’s Just A Woman)”. I used to have some of these songs on 45s. At the end of the week her parents took me back home and visited with my parents since her father was my father’s brother. Both records are still in LP format and play wonderfully. The covers are in excellent condition.

January 1979. My mother, working in education, had some seminars usually in Dubrovnik and she would take me with her. My brother being older did not want to go any more and I was still 15 years and something so no real right of say. Probably we stayed that year in hotel Libertas. Evenings were free to walk and I believe it was not first or second night as to go to Old town was a must. We went to a port and visited two department stores. I cannot recall if she bought anything for herself, but second department store, Srđ, had something for me. Queen's Jazz. It was in a bit more luxorious cover, embossed and with cardboard inner sleeve, rarely seen in my country back in the day. That is why it was more expensive, red felt tip writing states even today price of 90 dinars, more than the normal gatefold. I hardly could wait to come back to my home town to listen to it. Plenty of songs to enjoy, Mustapha to start with. And I bought also that evening a cassette in Dubrovnik, Pink Floyd - Animals. They did not have it as LP. Back to my home town, I searched for LP but could not find in the shops, nor a cassette. Whether it never arrived or was sold so fast, I do not know. This other album I plan to write about later this month again.

I just want to reminisce about the old days of records. My granny had one of those all in one cabinets with a radio and record player and speakers in a single unit. The records were 78’s made of shellac. They were extremely hard. They were close to a quarter inch in thickness. If you threw them, somebody could get hurt. I can remember looking through them. They were Big Band swing records for the most part. I didn’t play them much. The sound was very heavy and murky. My cousin had one of those stereophonic cabinet units too. They were beautiful. It was a wonderful looking piece of furniture. I can remember records by The Beach Boys, The Kingsmen, and others. This was maybe 1964-65 or so. But I was still into singles at that time. But I don’t remember anything by The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. My cousin was into pop music albums. So I didn’t get exposed to blues rock at the time. It wasn’t til about ‘69 when I got into that style of music. My memories are a bit fractured because we moved a lot and I didn’t have a consistent stable of friends or an older sibling. I liked singles like Roger Miller “King of the Road”, The Kingston Trio “Tom Dooley”, Claude King “Wolverton Mountain” & Chubby Checker “The Twist”(although I liked the flip side better “Gotta Get Myself Together”). My first LP purchases were Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys, The Rolling Stones Goat Head Soup(with goat poster) and Steppenwolf Monster. This was in 1973 after I finally starting realizing that 8-track tapes were trash. But when I got the first Rolling Stone Record Guide in 1979, I started in earnest collecting records. There were even pictures of their top rated albums. That’s when I started getting into The Velvet Underground and Fairport Convention. In the early 80’s I bought hundreds of albums and got into the variety that expanded my knowledge of rock music to the nth degree. Oh well…just living in the past today.

16. Alice In Chains - Dirt I didn’t get into this album until two years after it was released. An old friend of mine played this cassette for me and I thought it was one of the best things I’d ever heard. I knew some of their songs prior to that, even remembering Man In The Box being in frequent rotation on MTV a few years before. To me, this album is their crowing achievement. The production, the songs, the vocal interplay between Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell really grabbed ahold of me. It’s heavy, dark, and melodic. Since late 1994 when my friend played me this tape, I was a fan for life through all the ups and downs.

I had been a fan of Thin Lizzy since hearing 1974's Nightlife at my cousin's house, and 1975's Fighting was even better. But nothing could've prepared me for the absolute Hard Rock perfection that was Jailbreak! I purchased the album from Wee Three Records in April of 1976. From the first crashing chords of the title track to the screaming guitars at the climax of "Emerald" (my favorite Thin Lizzy song ) this album just didn't let up! With highlights like "Warriors", "Fight Or Fall", "Running Back", "Cowboy Song", and of course the massive summer hit, "The Boys Are Back In Town" not only was this album Lizzy's best to date, it was one of the best albums of what was an outstanding year for music. Jailbreak was a record that my friends and I all shared. There was nobody that I knew who didn't dig this record. Thin Lizzy would release Johnny The Fox later that year, and that album was almost as good as Jailbreak, and they would make other great records like Bad Reputation and Black Rose (featuring the guitar heroics of Gary Moore), but never again would they have the same commercial success. I was lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy for the first of four times in 1976 and they were glorious on stage. Phil Lynott was such a charismatic frontman, and those twin guitars....! I've been a fan of Thin Lizzy for more than 50 years and I expect to be one until I "shuffle off this mortal coil" as they say. Jailbreak is one of the main reasons why. 1) The Who - Tommy 2) Rush - All The World's A Stage 3) The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot 4) The Ramones - Ramones 5) Kansas - Leftoverture 6) City Boy - The Day The Earth Caught Fire 7) Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood 8) Black Sabbath - Sabotage 9) Green Day - American Idiot 10) Allman Brothers Band - Seven Turns 11) Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Live Bullet 12) Slade - Slade Alive! 13) The Who - Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy 14) Deep Purple - Burn 15) Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak

Day 16 - The Runaways - The Runaways (1976) Now we are going back to 1976. It was Spring of that year. I was at my friend's house. Sarah and I were getting a snack and Tina’s older sister Jane came into the kitchen and told us she has a cool album for us to listen to. She said it was a band that was all female and they were teenagers. I thought that was very cool. As soon as “Cherry Bomb” came on my inner rocker chick was released. I was air drumming along. And there was rocker movements involved as well. We were enjoying this album. I really liked the song “Is It Day Or Night?”. I was really getting into this album. Another favorite was “Dead End Justice”. When I got home early that evening I asked my dad to take me to the record store so I could buy this album. I played the album a lot that year. Through the years I only listened to it here and there. Now I don't listen to The Runaways debut album very much. I only like parts of “Dead End Justice”. I still like “Cherry Bomb”, but not as much as I did when I was 11. The song, “Is It Day or Night?” I listen to more of the three on occasion. Day 16: The Runaways - The Runaways (1976) Day 15: Live - Throwing Copper (1994) Day 14: No Story Day 13: No Story Day 12: Rainbow - Rising (1976) Day 11: Yes - Fragile (Released in the UK on 12 November 1971 and in the US on 4 January 1972) Day 10: Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak (1976) Day 9: Deep Purple Machine Head (1972) Day 8: Boston - Boston (1976) Day 7: Emerson, Lake, and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery (1973) Day 6: Suzi Quatro - If You Knew Suzi (1978) Day 5: Steve Miller Band - Fly Like an Eagle (1976) Day 4: Journey - Infinity (1978) Day 3: Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual (1983) Day 2: Jethro Tull - Aqualung (1971) Day 1: Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970)

My “Traveller In Time” story steps up to the next year. We have arrived now in February 1973, and it was the classmate now next to me, who handed an album to me. It was CATCH BULL AT FOUR, by Cat Stevens. I have to admit that I was still missing my neighbour and former classmate, who left the school in the summer of 1972, but, like the latter, I had also known this other guy for most of my lifetime. He never lived at the same town, but both couples of our parents had a friendly relationship for a long time, visiting each other on Sundays sometimes, so we have already known each other as kids at a pre-school age. We both had different interests when it came to musical taste, though. While I was mostly into hard rock and prog rock at the time, he was mostly into lyrical stuff, with song poets like Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. We both knew and tolerated our different preferences, but at that day in February he gave me the album mentioned above, saying: “You need to hear it!” Of course, I was curious, wondering if the album was worth listening. At least, I found out that the album already had been a big chart success at the time in the most western countries. I soon started to like the album. For me, “18th Avenue” was the highlight, wonderful arranged with a full symphony orchestra, stunning percussion and Stevens himself on grand piano. “Silent Sunlight” sounded good as well, and with “O Caritas” (partially with Latin lyrics), “Sweet Scarlet” and “Ruins” the album ends beautifully. I got Cat Steven’s next album “Foreigner” with the side 1 suite of the same name, which came out later the same year (I remember it was at the same day, when I also got Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side” album), and the follow-up “Buddha And The Chocolate Box” in 1974. Later on, I lost interest in his work. Cat Stevens would convert to Islam later in 1977, calling himself Yusuf and stop releasing popular music for a very long time. It was not before 2006, when he decided to start recording new albums. I have none of the new ones, but I watch his new stuff on youtube from time to time. There are some of Cat’s early songs which I don’t have on any LP or CD, but they are still popular known worldwide: “Morning Has Broken”(with Rick Wakeman on piano), “Peace Train”, “Moonshadow” and “Wild World”, to name a few, which became evergreens and still get some airplay. My school time albums discoveries, In chronogical order: day 01: 07/1971 (fav) Led Zeppelin IV, (first) Led Zeppelin III day 02: 08/1971 (fav) Simon & Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water day 03: 09/1971 (fav) Atomic Rooster, In Hearing Of day 04: 09/1971 (fav) Deep Purple In Rock, (first) Deep Purple, Fireball day 05: 11/1971 (fav) Jethro Tull, Aqualung day 06: 11/1971 (fav) Black Sabbath s/t, (first) Master Of Reality day 07: 12/1971 Jesus Christ Superstar day 08: 01/1972 (fav) Grand Funk, Phoenix, (first) Grand Funk, E Pluribus Funk day 09: 03/1972 The Doors, L.A.Woman day 10: 04/1972 Neil Young, Harvest day 11: 06/1972 (fav) Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here, (first) Pink Floyd, Meddle day 12: 07/1972 (first/fav) Uriah Heep, Demons And Wizards ("Magician's Birthday" coming very close) day 13: 07/1972 (first) Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Tarkus (fav, maybe) Trilogy day 14: 09/1972 (first) Alice Cooper, School's Out (fav) Alice Cooper, Killer day 15: 10/1972 (first) Moody Blues, A Question Of Balance (fav) Days Of Future Passed day 16: 02/1973 (first) Cat Stevens, Catch Bull At Four (fav) Cat Stevens, Foreigner (because of the suite)

I remember that in my first year of high school, a records and books sale was organized. Students could bring the stuff they no longer wanted and the money raised was destined for charity. There I found this used vinyl lp that blew my mind. I knew a few hits from this band, but wasn't expecting something so heavy and powerful. A cabaret song gives way to a burst of thunder, and the most powerful version of Hellraiser you can imagine plays. The album was: Sweet "Live In England" (1976). Originally released alongside a greatest hits in a double album under the name Strung Up in '75. To this day, still one of my favorite live albums.

August, 2009 Genesis - Platinum Collection digital download on iPod A Trick of the Tail and Turn It Again On: The Hits on CD December 2009 I first heard my dad play Invisible Touch or Throwing It All Away in the summer of ‘09 when he played it on KZbin. I recognized the voice because I remember Phil Collins did the soundtrack to Tarzan (1999) when I was little. I ended up downloading Platinum Collection on my iPod. Circa 2009, I was getting into Pink Floyd, Dire Straits and Genesis. I would constantly listen to that compilation album everywhere I went. I started delve deep into Genesis’ catalogue and history. After Christmas, I went to Best Buy and was scrolling through the CD racks and came across Genesis A Trick of the Tail and Turn It On Again: The Hits. I also saw their studio album box sets, and thought to myself “I want that”. In April of 2010, I would buy the 1970-1975 Box Set with my allowance money. Ever since then I’ve been a big Genesis fan.

Hi everyone, hope you're all having a good week so far... Today, I'm taking a leaf out of our friend Jerry's book and doing a "Part 2", but rather than repeating the band, I'm repeating the scenario from yesterday in that I'm on a coach coming back from a week long school trip to the Med (hey, we teachers needed a change of scenery too sometimes, but we did have about 60 teenagers to supervise!) and we've stopped to refuel, both the coach and its occupants... I, predictably, made a beeline for the newsagent and bought the current copy of that same magazine that had introduced me to Nightwish on the trip before, wondering if I was to have another musical wake up call. I was. On track 1 this time, and it was another case of, what on earth have I found here? Again, it was a combination of riff, drums and vocals, but the sound was totally different from the previous year's mezzo-soprano led symphonic, Scandinavian scorcher. The band do, also split opinion like few others, a real Marmite band: I hate Marmite, but as of this moment, I loved... RAMMSTEIN. The song was "Sonne", from their soon to be released 3rd album, Mutter ('Mother') and they remain the first, and actually the only industrial metal band I really like. They do, of course, sing almost entirely in their mother tongue, and Till Lindemann's delivery, switching between Rex Harrison style speak-singing, a lovely Alto croon and harsher, shoutier moments, is admittedly an acquired taste, but if you can live with that, then it's a rewarding experience, albeit an, at times, controversial one... oh, and as a live act, they're in a flame throwing, pyrotechnic league of their own.

Hell Awaits- Slayer 1985 . Jonny Zs Rock n Roll Heaven in Clark NJ was sponsoring a live in store appearance by the band to sign autographs for the promotion of the new album. A bunch of us left our last classes at Seton Hall for the day to make the half hour drive to Rock n Roll Heaven. When we arrived, the band was already set up behind the counter and an overflow of people packed the tiny store. The new album was being played in the store and the crowd was starting to think they were at LAmour as things started to get rowdy. Marsha Zazula had promotioal posters of the band and was selling them for ten bucks each and a bunch of people thought it was a good idea to snag them from her hands, resulting in the posters scattered around. Chaos ensued as fans tried to score a poster while Johnny and Marsha Z were jumping in the pile to prevent looting. Meanwhile the band were behind the counter taking the scene in. Order was eventually restored and the band cut the visit short and I ended up getting my albums signed by everyone except Araya.

However it was worth it to me to stick with it to hear the beautiful and stunning prog rock on this album. A masterpiece... Weird fact, I've driven the Natchez Trace a few times on business trips.

DAY 16 -THE KINKS-Greatest Hits. (1966) Hi Friends! A host of the memories when I got the album back in 1967. At local discount store Murphys I do believe as well getting as kid then the album and it being the original on REPRISE records. And still plays great and well cherish it and also is an Enhanced Stereo recording which still sounds brilliant, When I would hear the digital CD much later it was missing the usual sound the enhanced audio analog of that makes it special. Like reverb maybe? I don't know anyway playing at parents home in my bedroom and people that would hear it and enjoy that being there to listen to records like brother friends and such getting into The Kinks. In fact one time an old friend from early elementary days Joey Cain. Hung along in the neighborhood back then , After then family had moved to new neighborhood for my schooling and had some way gotten hold of when in high school from Joey who came over to my house and played the album on a stereo of as we touched base on things for about an hour and a half then he went back home to the old neighborhood. Haven't seen him since time then in the 70s or some time that it was, The olds to remember. Here are the songs. Side one "You Really Got Me" - 220 "Tired of Waiting for You" - 230 "Set Me Free" - 210 "Something Better Beginning" - 223 "Who'll Be the Next in Line" - 159 Side two "Till the End of the Day" - 220 "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" - 259 "A Well Respected Man" - 238 "Ev'rybody's Gonna Be Happy" - 215 "All Day and All of the Night" - 220 -============ The Kinks Ray Davies - lead vocals; electric and acoustic rhythm guitars; piano ("Something Better Beginning", "Ev'rybody's Gonna Be Happy") Dave Davies - backing vocals, electric lead guitar Pete Quaife - backing vocals, bass RIP (2010) Mick Avory - drums; tambourine ("You Really Got Me", "Till the End of the Day", "All Day and All of the Night") Along with additional studio musicians But great from the classic opening of You Really Got Me and to the last soing All Day and All Of Night. As all the tunes love and its a 4,5 album of great hits. Nota bad song on it and I can relate times with any songs as to how it felt to meaning for situations I would be going through. It wa the VERY FIRST Kinks album that I had gotten before getting others over the years. So there you have it. The Kinks. Saw a lineup with Ray And Dave in the band in 84. The Romantics opened up. And hearing tunes of the Kinks some few from here but later great tracks that made them well loved over the years. from Lola Celluloid Heroes and so nuch more. So love those early Kinks albums I cherish and have. Take Care and love hugs and prayers. And Pete great pick with Alcatrazz, Thank You for the story. B Well. TC all. 🎶🎶❤🤗🙏☮ Let the music move you and keep you well in enjoying for years to come hopefully.

Ok so on to today’s pick. A bit like my last post re thin lizzy live and dangerous, in a music store I reckon ( long time ago ) I came across an album cover by Sammy Hagar Loud and Clear . I had never heard of him but the cover attracted me and again i thought hello this is shouting out great rock music . As it was he was also playing a concert where I lived so I booked a single ticket to see him …Boy oh boy he was magic and had the place rocking and the icing on the cake was for encores he covered beloved led zep songs which is my life long musical joy. Boy this teenager was in ecstasy. Loud and Clear is a tremendous live album since been renamed for some odd reason but still out there to listen ….Sammy has gone on to me to be a tremendous rock star in an abundance of ways ….love him ❤❤

My Day 16 pick is Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces is the fourth studio album by South African rock band Seether. The album was released in South Africa and Switzerland on 19 October 2007, and released worldwide on 23 October 2007. It is the first album by the band without lead guitarist Pat Callahan. WWE legend] Shawn Michaels was the reason I started watching wrestling,” “I watched a match with him and The Immortal Hulk Hogan and just the amount of brutality and excitement in that match alone… I was like, ‘OK, I have to try this sing that was in the vignette which Remedy Seether That interest would soon spark a passion that would eventually lead to me listeningtomorecof their stuff . As a young fan in the late 00s, I would tune into WWE’s flagship show, Raw, every Monday night. The show would hold a segment where They wold announce the competitors in the Elimination Chamber match in 2008 and the song was … Fake it off this album. I was a huge Seether fan after that,” My father would have Remedy as his ringtine“The song was so catchy, I was like, ‘I need to listen to this more.’” I took to KZbin to find more Seether songs, eventually falling down the wormhole of heavy music that would make me a dedicated metalhead for life. “You know how you go on KZbin and you’re listening to a band, and then it’s a random playlist?” “The next song comes on and you’re like, ‘Ooh, this band’s cool…’ It was sort of like that. I would listen to all these new, cool bands, and I’d write down the names and download the songs. Eventually, my love grew for it; I would be in class in high school listening to metal when no one else listened to the same music. But Seether was definitely the beginning, and I’m glad that wrestling could introduce me to that.” The cover artwork was designed by David Ho, the same artist who designed the cover for the album Vicious Delicious by Infected Mushroom. The covers apparently display the same character, "Candice the Ghost."[8] Three singles, "Fake It", "Rise Above This" and "Breakdown" have been released from the album with all three being top 10 singles, the former two reaching the top position on several Billboard charts, despite mixed-to-negative reviews from critics.[6] The album was reissued in 2009 featuring a fourth single, a cover of George Michael's "Careless Whisper". Day16-The Police-Reggatta de Blanc. It was 1980, I was at my friend Dan’s house. We were listening to some albums of his, when he played this song for me off of this album by the Police. It was Message in a Bottle. I remember the beat of the song sounded kinda of pop rock, but I liked it. The singer Sting, his vocals were amazing. As we listened to the whole album, another song started to play,Walking on the Moon. This was my favorite song on the album. I might say that the Police are a very intriguing band to listen to. I bought Reggatta de Blanc plus all the other albums by the Police. Reggatta is still my favorite.

Bedside Manners are Extra, Greenslade. I got into this band late around mid 80s. It coincided with the birth of my first son. The album reminds me of this experience. It was in the month of May It was unusually hot for the UK. I had a bad cold at he same time and was sniffing obas oil to clear it. Combined I remember to this day every time I listen to the album. An insignificant story but anyway ........

Fist time I heard Aerosmith by big brother was listening to the radio and Dream On came on and I couldn’t believe how much I loved it. I was only 8 or 9 so I didn’t buy it then but years later in Jr High I did and they became one of my favorite bands.

December 2002: I was really into System of a Down at the time, and learned that Jaco Pastorius was one of their biggest influences. So, I decided to look him up, and really got into Weather Report and jazz fusion in general, as a result. The day after Christmas, I went to FYE and bought Heavy Weather - along with Whatever and Ever Amen from Ben Folds Five and Songs for the Deaf from Queens of the Stone Age.

Lemon Pipers Green Tambourine. I was introduced to Green Tambourine through a Best of Bubble Gum compilation. Took a gamble on their album. Like almost all 60s albums the songs are easy to absorb. Always dug 60s Bubble Gum and Psychedelic.

Sometimes, record companies put out sampler albums . These were designed to get you interested in new bands on their label. I was introduced to Judas Priest and Loverboy in this way.

Day number 16 New order substance 1987 Senior year in high school this album was everywhere amongst the preppies and the new wavers In fact that almost mid-80s period there was so much of that genre everywhere then I got into but I didn't have every album but: Echo & the bunnymen, The replacements, The cure, husker du, Jesus and Mary chain. But it wasn't uncommon to sneak to a party at somebody's house for some underage drinking at this time around 1987 88 and you did not hear something from this album going. that heavy kick drum and the synth that starts out and kicks into Blue Monday The bizarre Love triangle.. while it was considered a compilation album it's just a double album to me of Great Club style dance and vibe music. No I haven't really known anything about the prior band that became New order from the day I never really gotten into them known as the Joy division But I really did and still do like this album sometimes when I want to kick back and vibe with some good 80s stuff I still like to pull out the substance CD. It has held up very well for the most part. While I don't own all of new orders discography I'm glad to still have this and add brings back some happy memories once again as soon as Blue Monday starts to begin.

Wire - 154 (1979) After featuring current music on the first year of my radio show, it evolved from Songs to Sing in Your Sleep to Always Somethin' Festering, and eventually to Fester's Bucket O' Nasties, which focused on proto-punk, punk and post-punk. I had a list of albums that were missing from the radio station's archives, and on the top of my list was Wire's 154, which was a bitch to find. After several months of fruitless record store searches, and calling the ones in Minneapolis too far away for me to visit regularly, a store called Tatters 'n' Platters in Dinkytown near the U of MN said they had it on tape. It happened to be a record-breaking warm day in January in the 60s, with the snow melted enough that I could ride my bike the 18 mile round trip. Bonus, they also had Gang of Four's Entertainment and XTC's early singles comp. Both mind blowing post-punk albums I got to hear in their entirety for the first time. I'd go on to find a bunch of other key albums for my show used on vinyl, and CD reissues were also starting to trickle out in '88.
