Brilliant fun watching these three discuss their dislike - or perhaps complete disdain - for five bands that others might think they should like. Simon sharpens the stake and strikes the first blow and that continues through much of the episode. But one of the original mantras when finding SoT was and is "Remember, we all hear things differently/" But still these types of episodes are incredibly enjoyable to watch (and, in some cases, rewatch). Steven, if you want to give Hendrix another shot, please check out "Little Wing" the live version from the Royal Albert Hall. I'd be curious to know, if you don't you like his ballads like "Angel" or "Castles Made of Sand" either, or is it just the wilder, noisier, more improvisitional stuff that you dislike? Since you mentioned that you used to play drums, Mitch Mitchell actually has some groovy parts throughout Jimi's catalogue, Idk if that could spark your interest in revisiting Jimi, but js.

OK guys, I don't do this often, but I'll play along and give just one shot: Iron Maiden. I tend to keep quiet about this band, as they are worshipped here on SoT; you could put a blindfold on me, spin me around for minutes, then ask me to pick up a rock - state of sheer dizziness and all - and throw it. Guaranteed that that rock would not land without hitting dozens of Maiden fanatics. Discovered the band in the mid-'90s, and no matter how many times I was subjected to them (by way of radio, through friends, etc.), or went back and gave them many chances over the years (even if sporadically), things just never clicked. For one of the pre-eminent bands in metal, it is to an almost shocking degree how dull and lackluster their music has always sounded; it bores me to tears. I don't mean to come off as someone choosing to jump on some sort of Di'Anno bandwagon, but Killers is the only album from Maiden that I've ever truly liked. Everything after that? Snooze. My sincerest apologies go out to the HVS (especially Nick and Ryan.)

The debut is especially essential. Korpiklaani is fun, but aren’t top tier folk metal to me. You’d be much better off listening to bands like Ensiferum, Turisas, Elvenking, Mago de Oz, Eluveitie, Tyr, etc. I liked the Red Hot Chili Peppers early in my music journey, they were my first 2 concerts, but I have definitely outgrown them. Some good songs though. The rest is very spotty. I miss them playing their earlier style.

@knightvisioniixv8 ай бұрын
Seeing as I haven't posted a single comment on The UK Connection in quite some time, this post will be a fairly long one, as I offer my thoughts on some of the artists mentioned. The Who - I have to admit my initial reaction to them was one of disgust; I thought they were a bunch of obnoxious clowns, and this from having seen a televised documentary on them back in my early teens. I was none too impressed by their stage antics, and to my ears, the guys in the band sounded as if they were at cross-purposes. A few years after that, I came around. I bought Tommy and soaked it up, both musically and conceptually. I then bought Quadrophenia (my fave), Who's Next, and a bunch of the band's earlier albums. Having said all this, I was most obsessed with The Who during the three- or four-year period that began in my late teens, and ended in my early 20s. I don't find the urge to listen to them all that often these days. While I do love the Stones, they were never anywhere near 'the greatest' in anything to my ears. Same goes for Aerosmith; both are good fun, and when the mood for some 'sleazy', down-and-dirty rock strikes, I go to them most frequently. Even though I love my share of industrial/electronic, I have never cared for Rammstein, and quite a number of people I know from many parts of the globe feel the same way; it's not just an 'American' thing. Pete just about spoke my own experience with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All throughout the '90s, and in the States, they were inescapable. I bought Blood Sugar Sex Magik upon its release, and I also received a cassette compilation of their hits as a holiday gift from a relative around the same time. I liked them enough, but my enjoyment of the band dissipated before the decade ended; I sold both items, as the Chili Peppers became tiresome all too quickly (my continued love of select songs notwithstanding.) Furthermore, there were other bands of their ilk that outclassed them (e.g., Fishbone.) Magma. Yeah, I had a feeling they would come up, and as always it is hilarious. Maybe not a prerequisite for enjoying them, I sometimes think having an appreciation for vocal music of many kinds (both secular and non-secular) will give some an idea where Christian Vander was/is coming from. Great show, guys!

I'm not a fan of U2, Red hot Chillipeppers to names a few. I've tried Frank Zappa, but i just can't connect. Pantera is another I've tried, but not quite connected.

From the UK - like the Beatles - like odd songs by the Who & the Stones - but if I never hear either again I shall not miss them….

I agree with some of these, I'm not a Stones Aerosmith, or Hendrix fan!

Aerosmith always gave me a migraine. Honestly a lot of corporate hard rock does. I’m way more a metal guy.

I have been watching these nonestop. It would be cool to see a review on tommy bolin and other should have been rockstars. I think you guys should do an honest review on the blackmore's night collection.

Great idea, loved this. Hate is a bit strong, but for bands that leave me cold overall my picks would be: Kiss The Beatles The Doors Led Zepplin Foo Fighters I like some songs by the above but overall they leave me pretty cold

Not sure how many times I kept looking at my calendar thinking this was an April Fools episode. Must add, Plum Porter sounds delish! JT

My only criticism is Steven's summary of Rory Gallagher. Yes, he's a blues/rock guitarist but he didn't play just "3 songs". Usually, the longest song of his set was Bullfrog Blues, The last song of his set, where he introduced the rest of the band and gave them a little solo spot. There were no Allman Brothers-esque 30 minute noodling. Oh, and Pete? You don't like Rammstein because of their stageshow, but you're a Kiss fan? Rammstein are not really doing anything that Kiss haven't been doing for decades.

Funny show. I have a few as well. First comes to mind is a band from my home country. Not sure if they are known outside of Scandinavia because they sing in some kind of Norwegian. Anyway here they are really big. I even bought a dvd with the band because they suppose to be good live. Well, I was bored like hell watching it. Honestly I dont remember if I still have it or gave it away. The band is called Kaizers Orchestra

So, we've got a guy wearing a Kiss t-shirt who doesn't like the Stones and the Who...
