Great concept! I love reflecting on how well things age over time. Some things that had a strong first impression don't have a lasting one, and some things that weren't as impactful on us at first might grow on us and stay with us longer. Sometimes our tastes change too! and that is something I noticed about this video. Preferences evolve, even in our 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond.

@@simonbrayfromsot1375 Your reflections on Manowar's Battle Hymns re-recording was like mine! I appreciate it for a novelty listening or 2 but don't revisit it. They're currently re-recording Sign of the Hammer for the 40th anniversary of the album - again begs the question - WHY?! To be fair, it's wise economically because they're likely to earn just as much from that as their new original album coming next year. The fan base is so loyal they'd buy freeze-dried nuggets of Joey DeMaio's droppings!

Great beer start with Mr. Malty and Simon's americanized coffee accent among everything else make for another classic UK Connection episode. Wasn't listening to very much new music during a period that includes 2010 but, like the three of you, looking back on reviews or my thinking then often requires changes after more than a decade passes. My recollection is favorites of the time for me included the Elton John/Leon Russell album, the Union, the classical album of C.P.E Bach performed by Danny Driver along with the recording by a hometown band Morningbell entitled We Are Angular And Beautiful. All three of these are listened to quite a bit still though I can only listen to Morningbell through KZbin so it tends not to be played as much. Hope you three will do this again for another episode - perhaps look back ten years to 2013. But whatever is on the agenda, always looking forward to the virtual gathering across the pond. Cheers!

He is a brilliant singer, his band before Winterville are very worth checking out especially if you are a fan of Alter Bridge. He also was part of a band called Sloper with some former members from Golden Earring.

Not made a list for this year prior to broadcast and currently working my way through the episode, but posting as Pete has listed Spock's Beard. Not long back in from their gig at Classic Grand, Glasgow tonight, and just to say they were fantastic, as ever and a really healthy turn out from what I could see! Catch them on the rest of the tour folks Some that would have made it Spock's Beard, Haken, Kingcrow, Black Country Communion, Vanden Plas, Anathema, Moon Safari, Hasse Froberg & Musical Companion (far more time for Hasse than the Flower Kings these days), RPWL, FM, Mystery, Hawkwind. I will stick up for Orphaned Land even though not top 10 material (then or now). One band/album that wasn't in my top 10 nor now, that I bought into the hype... District 97. Bought the first two albums when they were getting great press in the prog world. Hunt's a fine singer but I just find them totally overrated now

Made my current top 10 from 2010. Would probably be quite similar if I had made one in 2010 as well. Could see Masterplan and Immolation get a spot back then. Audrey Horne would have crept in later. Not sure if Triptykon would have made it when it was released. Not even sure I should have it on the list now. Have only listened to it a handful of times in the last decade, but when I do it is excellent. Have to be in the right frame of mind, though. 1. Cathedral - The Guessing Game 1. Black Country Communion - Black Country Communion 3. Atheist - Jupiter 3. Star One - Victims of the Modern Age 3. Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy 6. Overkill - Ironbound 7. Audrey Horne - Audrey Horne 8. Melechesh - The Epigenesis 9. Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones 10. Priestess - Prior to the Fire Yes, 1st and 3rd are tied. Your mentioning Spock's Beard though - I went to see them in Leeds Sunday 28th Jan and they were absolutely fantastic - agree with Pete that they slumped a bit after Neal Morse left but Ted Leonard gave them the kick up the backside they needed, absolutely inspired choice to replace D'Virgilio, as he's not only a great singer he plays a pretty damn good second guitar to Alan Morse.

Motorhead - The World is yours Dark Tranquillity - We Are The Void Blind Guardian - At The Edge of Time. Accept - Blood Of The Nations. Hope this idea makes a return. The James LaBrie album mentioned by Simon wouldn't make my top 10, but was a pretty good listen. Especially as I woudn't expect melodic death metal from him!

Death Angel - Relentless Retribution: Their first album with a new rythm section - that still keeps the machine going today. TTCO: Absence of Light 3. Tank - War Machine: Not the 80's Tank, but quality hard rock with Doogie White singing. TTCO: My Insanity 4. Annihilator - Annihilator: Unflinching thrash metal from the Dave Padden-era of the band. TTCO: The Trend 5. ReVamp - ReVamp: Floor Jansen's band between After Forever and Nightwish: TTCO: The Trial of Monsters I hadn't discovered hard rock/metal in 2010, so this is just my list from today. There are still quite a lot more that would be contenders based on the band, but I'm not familiar with that particular album, like the albums by Raven, Bangalore Choir, FM, Y&T, Loudness, Star One (Arjen has a new project and album on the way, maybe time for another interview here on the channel? 😉), Yngwie, and more.

Lol Steven, seems if you live outside of Europe and USA, people struggle to actually buy physical copies of albums (cd or vinyl) and have to buy them on import and pay crazily high prices for shipping

Could this be the first time that Simon admits that he's been wrong about something.......

Fairly confident I admitted I was wrong about Simple Minds on the 2023 end of year show! But as a rule...😅

@simonbrayfromsot1375 Hehehe! As a UKC regular and a Scottish person, I can honestly say that I'm gutted that you would ever admit to being wrong about Simple Minds! Really well outside of my wheelhouse, although the Icicle Works were a band that I loved from that era.

I don't understand Bruce Springsteen at all, I thought only yanks appreciated those sonic sleeping pills... :/

I don't understand the springsteen worship. That album sucked and every album he's made since sucks. Why would guys from the UK fall for crappy pop rock from chairman leather Bruce?
