I’ve gotten to meet Ted 3 different times in my life. Once as a kid, once as a teen, and once as an adult. All 3 times he was super classy and polite. Love his guitar playing and the fact that he is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an absolute joke.

Cool. He's always been my favorite. I live in Michigan and grew up loving his music. The first time I heard great Gonzo's late at night on WRIF Detroit I was hooked. Then my aunt had the scream dream album and the cover blew me away. Guitar arms!! Loved him forever. He is doing final tour this year. He will be missed. All the haters that dog him for being a gun owner and hunter can f off. Uncle Ted forever!!

I was lucky enough to meet the Nuge in the early 80's when I was 12 or 13 at a Bear Archery shop. He helped me pick out a bow for my size and skill level. He really knew his shit and he didn't talk down to me because I was a dumb kid. Very cool guy. That said, his first album is still my favorite.

Love the first three albums in that order. Amongst the very best Hard Rock albums of the 70's and it doesn't get any better than that. Derek St Holmes was the magic ingredient and outside of Scream Dream it fell away in the 80's after St Holmes left.

Somehow I talked my mom into getting me Double Live Gonzo when it first came out. I was eleven and absolutely blown away. That being said, I tried to keep up with Nugent post-Gonzo, but I found less and less to grab onto. Just like Pete said, between the juvenile lyrics and the weakly produced 80s albums, he lost me. Are there scattered songs here and there that are worth a listen? Of course. But for me, 75-79 Nugent is all I need to listen to.

Enjoyed this ranking. Martin was a wealth of knowledge and information. 1. Ted Nugent, 2. Cat Scratch Fever, 3. Free For All, 4. Weekend Warriors, 5. State Of Shock. Honorable mentions: Scream Dream and Penetrator. I was not always a big fan of Weekend Warriors or Scream Dream but I have listened to them a lot over the last year and they have blossomed for me. I grew up with Ted's music & love his playing as a guitarist, but if you have the first three albums in my order of favorites, "Free For All," "Ted Nugent," & "Cat Scratch Fever," you have all the Ted you'll ever need, though I have to admit, "Craveman" kicked, but honestly, I'd be hard pressed to remember most of the songs on that album unless I listening to it. Oh, I loved Meat Loafs vocals on "Free For All." But I think some people just cannot get pass the fact that it is Meatloaf... I had no idea who he was in 1976 (I was 16), when I bought this album.

Arguably St. Holmes was the best singer. Love/hate him Nugent has been consistent in his style and views. What a gtr player. That Byrdland howling and no gimmicks. He was the real deal in the late 70s and added fire to Damn Yankees. Prob only him and Angus Young who made high volume such a part of their act

Foolishly I originally thought Ted sang on all albums. I only learned later in life that Derek St Holmes sang the tuneful stuff, with a bit of Meat Loaf. All Ted does is shriek and wang, That said, Ted Nugent was beautifully hypnotic, Weekend Warriors had great songs, Free For All was tuneful and rockin', and Scream Dream was insane, in a good way.

Ted is one of the best , underrated guitarists of our time. Someone should mention to him to hire some song writers.

He did need for a Sammy Hagar type guy to come along. Ted and Mitch Malloy with a good lyricist could have been cool.

Weekend Warriors is killer- love the whole record. Craveman was a great album- real update to his sound.

I bought the Ted Nugent debut album in the very early 80s because my cousin had it. I don’t think I ever listened to it all through. I quickly returned to Johnny Winter, Budgie, Rainbow Rising, Focus, ZZTop and Free..

Hey Pete, love your show. I saw Kurt Vanderhoof on one of your roundtable. How about a top 10 or best of for Metal Church

I have to give TONS of respect to Martin Popoff as a very talented Rock Author and Music Historian! Martin is extremely articulate, intelligent, witty, and KNOWS his Music stuff !! He doesn't talk out of his ass like 98% of the Morons on KZbin who claim to be "Rock & Roll Experts" .

Shocked that more emphesis wasn't placed on Derek St Holmes. He was and will always be Teds best singer and secret weapon. i was GUTTED when after the big tour/reunion with Derek Ted put out Shut Up And Jam and Derek was barely on it. (Ted says he wanted too much money) Well Ted those songs you wrote for that CD would have been 100% better with Dereks vocals! Oh well it's TED NUGENT.
