This was an outstanding presentation. May I make a suggestion: The search for a Dyson Sphere is far more relevant as a tool to search for extraterrestrial life than looking for a Hello signal. The Hello signal works only in the here and now while a Dyson Sphere could detect a civilization that vanished a million or more years ago. What is our quest? Is it to talk with someone whose conversation occurs at the speed of light or to know that oumuamua may be a space junk relic of ancient aliens?

Most of us don't know or want to know our terrestial neighbours, imagine this of a cosmic scale. Some of our terrestrial neighbour are great people, some are weird, some are creepy, some are misunderstood and some are crazy, while others are dangerous to even cross paths with, imagine that on a cosmic scale. Let's keep a low profile and let keep the decision to alter that attitude case to case to highly educated highly peer regarded scientist, diplomats, military, security and governmental people from the entire globe.

i think a dyson sphere is very primitive thinking. i think an advanced civilization would harness energy using some kind of advanced physics. i think they would be able to produce a lot of energy in small spaces. building dyson spheres is too much work. just like we have nuclear reactors, they might have the same things times a million.

Interesting and it touches on my favourite topic, the unseen. I think the answer to how to recognise actual life is to devise a means to measure energy and at multiple types and frequencies thus like measuring the make up of a planets atmosphere in colour coded bars. Not just energy created by man made source's but energy created by thought, collective thought. A flock of birds all turn at the exact moment. In Australia near all species survive around pods. But every so often these pods come together to share their Gene pool.

Just a thought, but I believe if there is extraterrestrial life, they will look exactly like us. The universe is built upon laws and patterns. Just as 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom combined make a water molecule, so too will life take the same shape when subject to the same conditions. Perhaps our own galaxy is flooded with life, but the distances are so great, and the technology so weak, that none of us can hear each other.

Absolutely no way possible that creatures from elsewhere look like us. Random mutation in DNA makes it impossible. Unforseen changes to the genetic code will change the course of evolution every single time. If you started life over on Earth with the exact same biology it would evolve differently.

you are thinking "physical". Time is simultaneous. Time is a measure of focus. How long did someone focus their imagination on creating something? WE are holograms being created constantly within a holodeck. Energy is always what is being measured. Energy is always bursting forth as energy. It's the focus creating the image, that is what we see. In the book The Quantum World written by the physicist Kenneth Ford, I read that at the subatomic level photons and quarks and electrons seem to be all changing into each other at enormous speeds. Fire works of color. An illustration can be seen of what we look like as this fire works display constantly beaming out with light and colors from the center traveling at the speed of light, in the book Hands of Light written by the physicist Barbara Brennan.

Ask yourself: why would an advanced civilization build an extremely complicated, massive, and very expensive Dyson sphere around there sun, when all the power you could need resides in the heart of Atoms? Why would a society darken their own sun so the animal and plant life on their planet suffers? We could do this now if we build enough drone like satellites and give them a spherical positioning guidance program so they manuver into position around the sun in a sphere. If we harness the power of our sun that would qualify is as a type two civalisation because building a dyson sphere around a star is one of the requirements to qualify. And it's extremely easy right now because of drone technology, The cost could be cheaper if you make the space drones as simplistic as possible but able to do the job We have drones already performing extremely complex grouped Arial feats as intertainmnet there's no reason we can't create a dyson sphere now
@Charlesinfinite2 жыл бұрын
We have no technology whatsoever that could withstand orbiting the sun. Go look at the temp. A dyson sphere is an absolutely ridiculous idea. There are way easier ways too create energy. The immense size of the sphere and the engineering complexity coupled with maintenance and such make it a completely unrealistic idea. If you could manage to build something like this ( which would be pointless) it would be beyond difficult to do. It would require the invention of completely new technologies and would costs hundreds of trillions of dollars.

Good talk but one thing strikes me. We have no idea how common life is in the universe. We start to understand there are plenty of planets out there, maybe a billion billon as Erik tells us. But so far we have not detected life anyehere but on earth! As long as we do not understand the necessary conditons for life to begin we are just guessing. But also if we do find microbes on Mars e.g. what are the chances that intelligent life evolves? So far we can only guess here as well. When trying to put numbers on those two guesses (life at all, intelligent life) we can get any result from 1 to billions of civilisations out there.

Glad he's making the case for the failure of SETI to detect any proof of et as well as the dyson sphere and the need to think outside the box and look for anomalies is good, but like most in academia he's not even discussing the anomalies that are happening within our atmosphere or low earth orbit or the dark side of the moon. Just think how much more we would know if the govt didn't create the stigma through ridicule and disinformation or even discreditation for all of academia to operate under effectively controlling any real independent scientific consideration for research on the topic for fear of ridicule or reprisal. As a result despite the recent push to destigmatize still the focus is on the grand scale of needles in haystacks rather than our own backyard, with a few exceptions like Gary Nolan and Avi Loeb and others over the past 5 - 10 years or so but this has been happening in our current state of tech advancement since ww2 and prior to that since antiquity. Just saying, they're already here and that would be nice to see academia taking a refresher course on this and get up to speed on it in their approach to this.
