Luis, you must write a book with all your results. 'Old masters' materials and techniques for contemporary painters' or something:-)

I took your inspiration from Rembrandt's late paintings. I collected sand to use as a filler for priming my rocks and panels. Have you tried heating up the sevillian clay? I have been collecting local earth pigments from my area in Teton County Wyoming and Sublette County.

Thank you for commenting. Very good question. It’s a possibility that this clay was heated in some cases although heated pigments with high manganese content are not ideal for grounds because they will cause problems later on. Although I can’t be sure if this clay has any manganese content at all. The color is very similar to Raw Umber though.

Your video is so interesting. Where can I buy calcite in the United States? I can only find ground marble. I could not find calcite in my search.

Hell Linda: Thank you for visiting the channel. Usually calcite is offered as marbled or quartz powder by most art shops. I get my calcite from Kremer pigments in NY. 👉🏻www.kremer-pigmente.com/elements/resources/products/files/58720e.pdf

Do you recommend fine or extra fine calcite. Should I buy both?

It depends what you’re looking for but as a general rule is better to buy a standard grind and grind it down as you see fit.
