used to work for a bus company as a pcv mechanic that ran these ! they’ll do a million miles easy with regular service, used to like the Allison auto boxes as well with that engine

Hi Mel & Becky: Well congratulations you’ve finally found and purchased a Mercedes Vario. Despite the fact it’s in need of some welding but doesn’t appear to be a lot I feel you have become very fortunate for it to have already been prepped ready, stripped back to its Chassis, So lucky. Even your inner Wheel Arches look so good because these are foul for Tin Worm. Be sure Mell to scrutinize every bit of the inner Cills because there notorious for Tin Worm around these areas. As soon as possible remove the front Windscreen Scuttle because I’ve noticed there is bad rot on the offside of the Scuttle. The Scuttle to replace from Mercedes cost £100.00, because I had to buy one for mine. You can always look up Rich & Kelly’s Videos-Wonder Bus Adventures, Very unfortunate for Rich & Kelly they ended up having to replace the whole front windscreen frame with large amount of expense involved. I really look forward to see the transformation of your new to you guys purchased Vario. I may just gain some tips from yourselves while working on my own Vario. I do like the rear bumper on your new Vario, So nice. My Vario is a 2005 614D when I’ve in fact had to strip out almost everything, the dummy floor & Plywood floor which was an absolute bugger, Even had the job of removing the Unwin Rail bolts, 430 to be precise, I drilled every one of the bolts out, I’ve even created a video on my You-Tube Channel to show people a simpler way of removing the Unwin Bolts so to be able to remove all the Unwin rails. I’ve just completed making & welding together my own galvanized inner wheel arches. Sharing further here with you both, For body parts try contacting Scarborough Metals as j_k_roaming John & Kerry put me in the direction of Scarbough Metals, They can be found on Instagram. I've driven loads of these over the last 30 odd years , loads of them used as mini-buses coz they go on and on and on , their only problem is tin worm , but vast quantities of waxoil and hammerite are the key , make sure the underside is thickly coated , and don't forget to jet wash the underside regularly to make sure you're not letting the mud trap moisture

So much nicer than the last one, I think the brakes are what they call, air over hydraulic. You have air to assist, whereas on a car you would have a servo.

Was going to say if you don't get this one (irrelevant now I know) look out for an ex AO let's go van, they are Mercedes large cargo size, low rear step, and tall but with an odd curve to the roof, but am sure this one will look massively different soon. Yet another one breaking the Law Mel...from April last Year ..a Passenger pointing a Cam or Phone at the Driver is Classed as distraction ..if Caught BOTH Driver and Passenger get a £200 Fine inc POINTS inc the Passenger if has a Licence Engine Sounded Sweet and Crisp ....Wouldn't have Lifted it up to Recover it if no Floor in , needed a Trailer or on the Back of a Truck
