(thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

jordan when you find phones like that one dont use rice use destilled water so you can take the salt out and then just let them dry naturally for a few days ( not on the sun directly)

As a professional micro electronics technician, I do my best to put the myth to bed that putting a wet electronic in rice is the best thing to do. Rice makes things worse. There is a powdered substance mixed in with all rice to keep it from clumping in a package. Unless you get rice from like the Chinese market and you use it super fresh any rice from 99% of grocery stores is going to have this powdered substance to keep it from clumping together in the package. That same powder, if you put your phone or your watch or any wet electronic in the rice, the liquid gets replaced by that white powdery substance and it turned into something like a glue. It actually does far more harm than good, and should really never be the thing that you do with the phone. Surprisingly, the best thing you can do with a wet electronic is turn it off. Make sure it is off, dry it out with a towel wrapped around it for a moment, then if you have a food dehydrator, put the phone in the dehydrator at the lowest temperature setting for about 5 to 10 minutes. You don't want it to get too hot because you'll blow up the battery, but the dehydrator is literally made to suck the liquid out of whatever you put in it. You throw the phone in there at a close to low setting, and just pull it out periodically to cool down, you are going to be much better off with the dehydrator then you ever will be with rice
