There's another "wallaces cave" along at Roslin Glen in Midlothian. Great wee cave and some old carvings on the stones nearby

@@MhorScotland It is labelled wallaces cave by Canmore. But contradicted by MR GEORGE ROSS OF BONNINGTON HOUSE SAYING he saw the cave being built in 1857. 552 years after Wallaces death in 1305.possibly a tourist cave done by Lanark Council

@@MhorScotland Robert the Bruce spent his latter years in his palace in the area of Castlehill and Brucehill Dumbarton. You can still see the existing wall of his stables. There is a cave in the cliff between Brucehill/Clerkhill and the Clyde known by locals as Wallace's cave. This is accessed from the road between Clerkhill and Westcliff.

@@MhorScotland Yes , I remember the "Lannimers day" or something , I lived right next to Smylum House with the nuns and shit . but have lived most of my life in England , but what I remember of that place is just wrong , I remember a young guy , probably about the same age as myself (maybe 6) pointing to a spot in like a small cabbage patch with an old wall behind it, and told me "that's where the old man buried the baby". It's all new expensive flats now apparently , but I always wonder about what that wee pal from the nuns place next door meant , coz I never met him again.TRUE. rip

Interesting 🤔. I’ve seen many “caves” that have been carved out of the rock and they have tell tail tooling marks on the rock. This cave doesn’t though. But hey

Thanks for that John really appreciate the tour ime sure wallace had plenty caves to hide out being gorrila warfare wallace would have plenty caves in his network of hit and run there's always a element of different people saying that's the wrong one or I know of another one It would be good to have all the different caves videoed and detailed but ime sure thats gonna be a box set I remember the gentleman in the museum telling me of the wallace cave but that was 2005 the home coming of wallaces coffin after we walked the last 5 miles with David R Ross to smithfeild London from Westminster we wanted to give wallace the funeral he deserved David walked from robroyston to London Bridge where wallaces head was hung in a spike over a thousand of us went to London we had a coffin in St Bartholomew Church the service was in later we stopped the traffic in London with wallaces coffin on horse carriage hundreds of us marching behind wallace the atmosphere was pride weeping emotionally overwhelming all the Patriots really felt like the wallace was in the coffin anyway after we all returned to Scotland there was a homecoming for wallaces coffin in lanark the place was bursting with Patriots torch light prossession pipes and drums we walked a great march into lanark Town everyone lined up to pay respects to wallacs coffin everyone spoke of the coffin felt real full of all our private messages it was as an important day in lanark as London But that's why I met a gentleman in the museum telling me about the wallace cave Thankyou John 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Your welcome Malcolm. It’s a cave that is spoken about but hidden from the public and it’s only a short distance from the main path that thousands walk. Sad that only a small amount of people visit it. Such an important part of our history and what led me to do the video. There’s talk of another cave in the In the cliffs above the mouse river (moos) on the way into lanark from Carluke. I not personally found that one. Thought the old Iron Age fort just a few hundred yards upstream is said to be where Wallace and his men assembled before the attack and is not far from what would have been a fording point in the river. It depends on wether he would have doubled back on himself after the attack over headed in a straight line away. But I need to find that one and have a look. Aye there’s many caves and I want to find and visit them all. Like you said his type of fighting requires places like this all across Scotland. I wish I had been on that March it must have been a privilege for you and everyone there. The pride and emotion would have been strong. Which museum were you in that you mentioned? I hope to when I get a chance to video as much of the places linked to Wallace and Bruce. There’s also a local battle to me “morningside” that was fought later in 1380s yet little is written and what’s on Wikipedia is BS. Thinks like this need to be documented for the future to know. Super interested in doing this walk however when looking on google maps it shows the location to be Edinburgh and it’s clearly not the same cave haha how far roughly is this from New Lanark Mill Hotel? Considering a charity walk next year. Thanks in advance, loving your videos!

Hi, Yeah that’s another cave I look to do later. But the lanark one isn’t far from new lanark itself. If you leave new lanark via the riverside footpaths and head upstream it’s only just over a mile. It’s only about 300-400yards upstream of the viewing area for the Corra Lynn falls and just downstream of the peregrine nest viewing station.

@@MhorScotland Thanks for your reply. I did some more digging and found the canmore website you mentioned and realised it wasnt that far. Im making plans to do a charity walk and do the full circuit of the falls, about 6 miles I believe, but would love to stop by the cave when on the way round.

Glad you found it. That will be a stunning walk for sure. Can be muddy at some points in the path but still fairly easy. Just watch the slippy rocks near the cave if you go down.

This is not the real cave. The real Wallace cave is up from Cartland bridge Lanark.
@MhorScotland
@MhorScotland 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on who tells it. It is said he mustered his men at the old Iron Age fort up from the bridge before the attack. It would depend on wether he would risk doubling back on himself or continue on straight away from the scene of attack. But that’s the joys of history

Good point, I lived in Lanark 35 years before I found out about the cave at Cartland, the old gentleman at the Lanark museum told me about it. Liked the video anyway and have fished the waters at new Lanark right up past the cave.
