Pro tip: Use tails. Its a seperate operating system that runs off of a USB. the Operating System has amnesia meaning it wont remember what you did unless told otherwise. It doesn't get rid of windows. As long as you have the USB in your computer tails will run. Since it runs off of a USB it can only access the USB.

Imagine you are messeging on Facebook and chatting with your friend on Snapchat. Imagine Facebook and Snapchat decides to team up and spy on you and see what you do. If you use just Tor, they will never know the person they are monitoring is the same person because Facebook is looking at one IP and Snapchat is looking at another. They can't correlate your facebook ID with Snapchat ID. Thus limiting their spying operation. When you use a VPN on top of Tor however, all your Tor exit nodes go through the VPN which only has 1 IP not 2 different IP. This time both Facebook and Snapchat can see the same IP address they are getting messages from. Let me give an example: Facebook: I can see a dude browsing our website from IP X (The VPN IP) Snapchat: Oh look! I am also getting messages from IP X. This must be the same person . Lets bind the data we have collected on this dude and monitor him. Of course this scenario is based on assumption to simplify it. Real life is much rather complex but the Tor & VPN relation stays relatively same. Hope you understand
