Riggan (Michael Keaton) and Mike (Edward Norton) heatedly discuss the merits of theater vs. Hollywood while in search of a late-night cup of coffee in Alejandro González Iñárritu's BIRDMAN. birdmanthemovie...

so much greatness in this scene but the icing for me is the sidewalk drummer.. it's a very sly way to add musical rhythm to accentuate the scene (and it's great how the drums change subtly during the dialogue and how they get louder as they pass), so it's not only a soundtrack, but part of the actual world and the character even throws money into the bucket to acknowledge it. very cool

@Roughly182Eggs2 жыл бұрын
You know, I’m certain the drummer is all in Riggan’s head. We hear the drums only when it’s his perspective we’re watching. We see the drummer three times, once here, another time after, and then later in the film near then end, when our main character has committed to shooting himself onstage. The Drummer is playing in Riggan’s Theatre (it shows the drummer playing in the kitchen specifically, almost as if he had just shown up there and decided to play coincidentally just as Rogan is walking by) the way that’s it’s portrayed, the way the drums line up and changed with dialogue, really feels like it’s in Riggan’s head, just like Birdman’s voice or the “superpowers” he has

@@ContentThatMakesMeContentI think you're spot on, tbh whatever it is, the stuttering and slightly awkward pacing of the dialogue is brilliant because that's how actual conversations go! Edward fucking Norton was the highlight of this movie. Not Keaton and not Emma Stone though both were very very good. But Norton absolutely stole every scene he was in, sadly he wasn't in many towards the end of the movie. Those roof top scenes were just gold. Any other year he would've won the Oscars, shame.

I love this scene because of how much I despise Norton's character (love his acting though). He's got the gall to imagine he's the last thread of artistic integrity, meanwhile he hashes shit at the guy (who wrote & directed the whole fucking production) just because he's pretentious. This is the art world my friends; backbiting & people who will tell you how shitty you are, even when you're good... Think hard about it. Maybe you should take up advertising or something. You'll be happier. For the era of us, who've gone to college for it, we're working at Staples & we're 23; it's too late.

It was blatantly though. I thought this whole film was supposed to be seamlessly blended into one, like how I've been hearing. On a big screen this'll be the most noticeable thing ever. Not quite sure what they were thinking in the editing room with this one...
@skidmark4409 жыл бұрын
That wasn't the cut... the cut was when they walk into the coffee shop and the screen fades to black over the dark entrance.
@Huhmasta9 жыл бұрын
i dont understand how that's a cut when you can still clearly see keaton's face between the camera moving. Unless some editing was being done, it wasn't obvious to me
@mattjjohnston64439 жыл бұрын
You can tell by two ways, 1. During Norton's character saying "cuz that's what we do", the mouth of Keaton's character is muttering something for which the audio was taken out, just read his lips. 2. During the camera pan, when the view of Keaton's character gets blocked by Norton's character, it's just too jarring to look like his character took a step back. And they were able to achieve this edit because eventually Norton comes off screen and reappears again.
@mattjjohnston64439 жыл бұрын
I bet 0:35 was another cut too.
