Pretty fun set, but not even having the budget to add a technic pin 1/2 and small steering wheel feels like something Scrooge would do before he met the 3 spirits...

I love how lego builds generations of the same concept: small, "offroad" buggy with rear suspension :)

Do you mean Lego 42101 or even 8207 (which was my the very first technic set). I also see this pattern and quite like it. It's fun to compare modern sets with their 90s counterpart.

Interesting weird set. I was wondering what happens with rear axle as I was used to those kind of things tilting on rounded tires, but the whole rear is not tilting. The engine is weird as well, feels like it's falling apart. The whole thing would feel to me like an ALT of some small set if not for the stickers and colour choice.

For its low prize, this is amazing set, it was fun to build too, but i made few chances for mine. I didn't put those neon yellow parts in, i just didn't like the color combo, i added another exhaust pipe to the back, i replaced the neon piece that comes to the top, with gray piece. I added rear lights (red) Next i will add some body work and add Lego net to both sides (after i order them from bricklink), i also didn't add any stickers, i think it looks way cooler without them.

For me 42164, are the best Winter Technic set. I like Steering system. Lego designer really packed everything he can into $20 set. Model B, C , D will be very soon able in Rebrickable.

Great little set! At first I wasn't sold on the looks, but the functionality sure makes up for that. As it should in Technic models. As for the "doors" this to me feels more like a case of selling some flimsy construction as a "function", it hardly seems intentional. And I am a bit surprised about those wheels in a new color. I mean, apparently Lego designers can only request a limited number of new pieces (that being either recolors, prints or entirely new moulds), which is the reason many extremely expensive sets still rely heavily on stickers. A new color here means not a new piece elsewhere....so was this really the highest priority?

Probably the most surprising of the sets coming, with a lot of functions and a cool look. Surprised by the price too, it's only £13 in the UK and €16 in Europe, although I expected it to be like $15 in the US. The cost cutting I agree is very clear, which probably explains the weirdly low UK price. But really, no steering wheel is bizarre and awkward; that empty pin hole could've been used to add a dial/gauge at least! The set must've been really strapped on the budget! I'll still get this though, it looks very fun!

My only complaint is that they didn't recolour the larger wheel hub as well, so that all of the rims are in the beautiful blue colour. Then they could have had discs at the back as well. Also, they could easily have had a single long axle going through the back so that both back wheels operate the engine.

The engine does look a bit odd in some ways, but I honestly do really like the way that it shudders around a bit when moving, it at least to me makes me feel like it's a tiny buggy with an engine that takes up so much of the vehicle that it shakes the chassis as it moves, which is pretty fun.

If they would use 8496 instead of 87408 part (shorter connector at the rear wheel drive), then maybe it could make enough room for the rear of the engine to be connected to something & not as wobbly.

The highlight has to be the steering of this one. No HOG steering at all just swerve to steer it. Pretty cool Technic set, a decent job at this scale

There shouldn't be any give in the half-beams at all that have the pistons in them. It is completely rigid in mine. Push those half-beams on all the way so that the cheese slopes are permanently flush with the car. Then it won't be flimsy anymore.

This new trend of pins or axles instead of proper pistons is really lame. Plus the lack of B-model in a 16 euro unlicensed set is a deal breaker.
