Thanks for the video, it encouraged me to do something I needed to do for a while now. Found several leaks using a spray bottle with soapy water. My regulator parts were all good. Just needed to add Teflon tape. Then hand tighten, then tighten about 1/8 to 1/4 turn with wrench, Tighten all the other leaky connections and the exact same Craftsman compressor you have is holding pressure like it did 20 plus years ago. Good video!

WOW! Exactly what's happening with mine. The plastic washer on my air compressor looks like the letter "C". I thought it was supposed to look like that! PS: When I put the knob and spring back together, it was easier to put it all together BEFORE placing it back on. Can't wait to try this.

Buddy I just want to Thank you. My Craftsman wasn't building or keeping full pressure. Followed your video and viola, the same broken plastic gasket. I used the Right Stuff sealer and some Permatex high performance thread sealant paste. Not only has my compressor reached max pressure but for the first time in 16 years she has held a steady 90 psi in the tank for over 24 hrs. Bro you the bomb. Thanks again.

I have one like this as well with the same problem. I tried a 1 1/8" O.D. O-Ring but nothing is coming out. Maybe the 1/8" O-Ring is restricting the diaphragm. I think I'll bleed the air and try your silicone method. Yes, the regulators AC-0007 were much more expensive than I'm willing to pay right now! Thanks for the video!

Teflon tape isn't made for filling gaps to stop leaks. You should have used just the RTV sealant. Teflon Tape is made to reduce friction so you can tighten a fitting further than you normally would, engaging more threads .
@billthornburg9540
@billthornburg9540 8 ай бұрын
You are partially correct. Teflon tape will make it easier to completely thread your connections, but the Teflon tape itself will help leaking by filling in the groves of the thread, thus creating a seal inside the connector. Been using Teflon tape for years to prevent water and air leaks. I don't recommend using it for liquid fuel, like gasoline. Liquid gas will break down Teflon and may get into things you don't want it to be in. Using Teflon tape in this manner is perfectly fine and less messy than RTV sealant.
@gregorymathiesen8713
@gregorymathiesen8713 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Note: the seal being repaired is between the bottom of the diaphram and the housing, The top side of the diaphragm and chamber above the diaphragm are at atmospheric pressure and the threads have atmospheric pressure above them. I repaired mine with silicone form a gasket applied to the bottom edge of the diaphragm.
@joebrewer5885
@joebrewer5885 3 жыл бұрын
Basically gluing the diaphragm to the housing? Do you suspect his RTV sealant squished around the rubber diaphragm sealing it as you did with it on the bottom? And where did the rest of the white ring washer go, mine was only partially there also, no way it went out the air line thru a tool.

@jimates2191
@jimates2191 Жыл бұрын
although this fixed the issue, it was not the problem. The plastic washer is to prevent the housing from contacting the diaphragm and turning the diaphragm, not to seal anything. Without the washer the diaphragm will turn and break the plastic regulator piece. Like a cardboard gasket on a kitchen sink strainer, it is only to keep the rubber from turning because it is contacted on both sides. Removing the cover in the future will likely result in breakage.

Hey woody woods, I have the 20 year old 25 gallon, just like the one in this video. This last week it started going up to only 80 psi, no higher. would run continuously while I used it to spray paint. Today it is only going up to 40 psi, no higher. I suspect I need new head gasket, but decided to look on KZbin before going any farther. Do you think this could be a head gasket problem and where does one get parts? Not sure how to even get to the head gasket or do any trouble shooting. Any ideas?

@originalyummer
@originalyummer 5 ай бұрын
Mine did that. Theres a thermal fuse protector tied to the motor windings under the shroud. My fuse was good but a wire was broken off. 2 Phillip's screws underneath bottom of the shroud realease the motor and all from the rails. Then take a long t-25 to remove shroud fasteners. Lay it on the side where the fasteners come out. You'll see the fuse tied to the copper. Its wrapped up in electrical tape. Good luck!

It may have fixed the problem for now but that's not the correct way to fix the issue. Probably cost more to buy the gasket maker then it would be to buy a gasket. But at least it's his own tool and not fixing it for someone else for a fee.
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 6 жыл бұрын
Sometimes you have to be a little bit unconventional to solve a problem. I had the RTV on-hand so since it was already bought and paid for the fix was almost free and done quickly. If I ordered the "correct" part I would have ended up paying $5-$10 including shipping and would have had to wait for it. And consider this - that $5-10 gasket would only fix ONE machine. A tube of $5 RTV could probably fix 100. Not only that, I'll wager it will last longer than a crappy Chinese plastic washer.
