There's something magical about castle ruins overlooking the sea that could almost make you believe that the fairy tales about knights and dragons and damsels in distress are true. We're going to layer our way to some lovely stone texture, push and pull highlights, and create our own relic of the past in this monochromatic painting.

Terry Pratchett’s Discworld would be awesome. Still a ways off, so not something I need anytime soon, but I thought Death as the Hogfather would make a fun painting. (If you don’t read Discworld I apologize for your confusion right now. You seem like a person who reads his books.)

What about knights, and warrior woman in armors. Like Joanne of Ark, that style. They are part of the castles vision and maybe a castle in good conditions as well. Just a thought! Damn, Jane, you're simply amazing. I'll be honest, I only watched the first 5 minutes of this (and watching the time lapse is quite satisfying). I didn't want to ruin the ending because I'm definitely going to try this one. Haven't painted for quite some time and I'm wondering what I'm going to do with all of this paint and these canvi (my word for more than one canvas), so I guess I should get off my ass and start painting again. Anyway, now that I'm rambling, thanks for always inspiring me to get off my ass. You're the best!

“None of this is set in stone” says Jane, as she paints in a stone castle. Struck me punny. It’s definitely easier to paint a castle than to build one! 😆 I’m going to use Prussian blue, methinks.

LOL!!! I thought the exact same thing when I said it, haha! Yes, Prussian blue would be amazing!!

@@PaintingwithJane thought that a hint of colour in the form of a wash over the water might make it even better. I shall get back into acrylics tomorrow or this week! Xmas painting time time..

I have a question... When you first painted the castle and land close to black , did you allow it to dry BEFORE adding the highlights?

Hi awesome Jane I don't have your cloud brushes yet. What brush should I use? Maybe today I'll order those brushes while its on my mind.

Unfortunately my #12 and #6 cloud brushes are out of stock. I've ordered them, but it does take a few weeks to get them. Sign up for my email list and I'll send out a note when they're back! Honestly, you could probably scrub with any brush. Like I said in the video, you just want to be sure that it's a brush you're ok potentially destroying or dedicating to scrubbing. Never scrub with a brush you want to keep nice!!

Painting with Jane Thank you for getting back so quickly. I do have scrubbing brushes , yours just looks so soft.

They're kind of a medium texture. They're nowhere near as soft as detail brushes, but nowhere near as scratchy as natural bristle. Kind of the perfect happy medium :)
