Season 1 was AMAZING! To be clear I've (Prez) had discussions on Patreon regarding the ending and the sudden ability to bring back bending which made me open to it however personally I was still a bit disappointed for there to be no real consequences. Just hope we can agree to disagree on this one if we have to😂 SEASON 2 STARTS NEXT WEEK! Or you can be ahead with Uncut Reactions on Patreon www.patreon.com/TGLReacts

To be fair, the Avatar is the “Master of all Elements” shouldn’t be too far fetched for her to have seen and have blood bending used on her to be able to use it at her peak Avatar State potential for that time, given it was supposed to be a series finale while you still have the abundance mindset knowing there’s more to come for you

Also it makes 0 sense for Korra to spend a season relearning the elements from a character perspective as well. The 3 elements she lost are the ones she is best at and already spent years mastering and perfecting, she knows all the forms and philosophy of those bending styles. It's not like Aang first learning the elements or even Korra learning airbending. Imo it was a great decision to focus on the avatar state and past lives and spirits to help her develop her spiritual side instead of rehashing ATLA.

never understood why people get so upset about korra getting her bending back. amon could never actually “take” bending away. he was just blocking it. that being said aang unblocking it would make sense why she still knows how to bend easily cause it was still inside her. also saying you never seen aang give bending back when he literally died at age 60 there’s a lot you wouldn’t know he isn’t 12💀

Probably because it feels very deus ex machina and it diminishes the stakes that were set throughout the season. Personally, I don't mind it, but I acknowledge that it does seem like an instant fix. Sure, Aang might have learned how to do it during his lifetime, but if it's not shown or even told to us, then it comes out of nowhere. Amon was set up to be a huge threat for most of the season, permanently taking away bending, but now that we find out that's not the case and it can be restored so easily, it makes certain scenes a lot less powerful or meaningful. Again, I liked the ending, but there are valid criticisms that I totally understand. Unfortunately, a lot of them are due to the issues with Nickelodeon.

@@Zippy_815 again if they showed aang giving back bending in korra it would be an easy give away of what’s to come. also like i also stated amon never learned to actually TAKE people’s bending away. he was blocking it with blood bending as tarlok said in the previous episode. so aang (AVATAR) simply undoing a waterbenders trick just isn’t as far fetched as people make it seem to me. idk how that’s considered “being restored so easily” when it’s just a blockage

@@Nando-hj4zi I know Amon wasn’t permanently taking away bending. That’s not the issue. But that’s what the show was implying to the audience for most of the season. Amon went from someone who could permanently take away bending, to a blood bender blocking bending, to a blood bender blocking bending in a reversible way. A villain who can permanently take away bending is much more intimidating and powerful than a blood bender who can kind of sort of block bending in a way that can be fixed. Aang coming in suddenly granting Korra her bending and the ability to restore others’ bending is simply a deus ex machina. There’s no other way to put it. As I stated, I enjoyed the ending. I’m not trying to argue. I’m simply explaining that there are very valid criticisms to the finale.

The subtext to why Tarrlok took his own and his brother's life is so heartbreaking as well. Still, I'm glad she didn't, she had a great development. Some people don't like her, but I personally love her precisely because she's mentally very strong. First off, I wanna state that you're definitely not alone in your opinion. The show is definitely rushed due to the creators only getting the green light for one season. However, I think with the backstory on how she was going to kill herself to restart the avatar cycle (her lowest point), I think it makes sense that she connects with Aang. And Aang restoring her bending is (to me) just as 'sudden' as a lion turtle giving Aang the power to take bending away (which in some way Aang also 'called upon' as he was lost, since he didn't want to kill Ozai). I'm glad you still enjoyed Korra, and the seasons (except season 2) will be even better. Can't wait to see more :)

Season 2 is definitively the worst season, but it has some of the highest points, as well as some of the lowests. For example, I would describe Season 1 as a good rising curve, and then the ending makes it fall quite a bit, but nothing criminal or that completely destroys the rest of the season, it is just a rushed ending. Now, season 2 is basically a roller coaster, always going up and down in terms of quality. (the return of the love triangle SUUUUUUUUCKS so bad).

I actually loved that Korra never used the avatar state as a power-up tool to beat her opponent. Even when she is in actual danger being blood-bended and getting her bending taken away, her avatar state didn't kick in as a failsafe. Also, the story would've been that much better if the writers weren't left hanging until after season 1 completed that season 2 is being green-lit. They could easily left it on a cliff-hanger and never finish the story if a new season didn't get confirmed.

"Before we bended the elements, we used to bend the energy within ourselves." the Lion Turtle's words make it very clear, it wasn't a specific power to take bending away, but the knowledge of Energy Bending. "To bend another's spirit, your own spirit has to be unbendable." Another phrase from the Lion Turtle that also explains that to impose energy bending into someone a strong will is necessary, and one that has to be stronger than the other person.

The ending does feel cliche, if you really really think about it you can maybe explain it by saying when korra got the air bending and connected to her spirituality she also got the ability to energy bend like Ang did which seems to be an exclusively avatar ability. It’s also possible that because korra is the avatar amons technique simply doesn’t work, just like how avatar state Ang couldn’t be blood bent by Yachone, and entering avatar state simply unblocked korra bending by flooding her with energy.

Fun Fact: There actually was a Legend of Korra videogame that came out in 2014. It was actually pretty decent albeit a bit repetitive in the long run. The combat was really fun and you could also play Pro Bending. Sadly it stopped being sold on all digital platforms when Activision's license ran out, and since it never got a physical release you can't buy it anymore, it's considered 'extinct'. I still have it installed on my PS4 though :)

When I first watched the show, I knew Tarrlok couldn't have been Amon. That would've been way too obvious. Also, I only recently learned that Clancy Brown voiced Yakone, and he also voiced Long Feng...and Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob. "Bloodbend your brother, me boy! Or else the Earth king will invite you to Lake Laogai. Aagagagagagag!"

As with many series, whether anime or normal, the writers had the problem that they didn't know how many seasons the studios would pay. Korra had only ordered 1 season and therefore they had to hurry to finish it in this one season. Then, all of a sudden, more squadrons were ordered. All of a sudden, they had the opportunity to tell a story that was also based on each other.

It's not rushed at all, it's the most literal obvious logical progression of how things should go. Like why would her getting her bending back be a full seasons worth when it's literally the whole point of being the avatar to have the help of previous ones? Not to mention it's boring as a story.

Just to give some context: the producers didn't know if there would be more seasons, so the ending of the first season was very conclusive and "epic". After the good repercussion, more seasons were announced. That's why this ending doesn't look like an "end of season", with some cliffhanger, but an epic end of series.

My main issue with Korra, and the reason that it took me years to actually watch it, was just how much the world had come forward technologically from ATLA. In the other show, it showed flashbacks from generations back when they were still living a simple life without any major mechanical advances, and then here they suddenly have cars and skyscrapers and telephones and planes. It was just a lot to wrap my head around.

Personally I disagree with you on hating the returning her bending part. It makes sense. First, the creators did not know about a s2 until after they finished so we very obviously cannot end the show on korra the airbender instead of the avatar lmfaoo. Second there are tons of things aang can do that we havent seen. He is 60 when he died. We missed a full 48 years of him so you cannot say he couldnt do that when we dont know. Next amon never took bending away. He simply severed the connection. SO it makes sense that connecting to her avatar state and past lives can restore that connection. And since aang lives within korra it also makes sense that she is able to return bending as well. Finally, yes four seasons, yes it could mean for all the elements but why would anyone want that? I want to see korra not just an updated avatar the last airbender.

Korra season one was greenlit and envisioned as mini series, not one season. everyone talks about how they finished season one not knowing if they would get more, but in reality there was never an expectation of more. it was always meant to totally conclude at the end of 12 episodes. Mini Series is a more definitive way of looking at it than a “season one”

Re learning the element means screentime for "re-learning" those elements. Korra is, if anything, more in sync with avatars that are more proficient in their physical side like Avatar Kyoshi and Yangchen. Her avatar journey is on the spiritual side. Aang was obviously on the physical, considering he was already spiritual due to his strong connection to the nomads' teachings. Korra only connected to her spiritual side for this season. Being connected isn't the same with being able to walk through it, or mastering it. Therefore, if anything it is only best for her to get her elements back at the end of Season 1 & focus on her spiritual journey. Because, again. Mastering the elements is not her avatar journey. She's not Aang. Plus Aang had his chakras opened, and even managed to learn the ability to take someone's bending in a snap. What I'm trying to say him choosing love had no consequences either when it should have because it's literally Katara vs Avatar State. Him choosing Katara was a permanent closure of his 8th chakra. He chose love. Consequence was "not being able to access avatar state". But even then, we were robbed of that consequence because lion turtle did it's thing. He even got a freebie (removing bending). And we all LOVED it. We loved Aang for not facing consequences of not accessing the avatar state. We loved him regardless. So, I think we can still love Korra despite having no consequences on her story, and even if she "suddenly" learned to return bending. If loved Aang for having freebies, we should do the same for Korra.
@DriftingMaze
@DriftingMaze Жыл бұрын
I don't agree with what you said about that whole aang choosing his love for katara means he shouldn't have been able to get into avatar state ever again. First of all if you remember aang had actually decided to give up his love for katara so that he could protect her in that fight where zuko betrays katara's trust and joins azula, its just that when his last chakra point just got opened he got struck by the lightning which resulted in his chakra point being sealed and him not being able to get into the avatar state for a while. So what I think is since his chakra point got sealed he was able to revert his mental state into one that can love katara again but at the same time since he had already opened his last chakra point once he didn't need to go through that whole process again and just needed a powerful impact in that exact spot where the lightning hit just enough to make the bundle of energy accumulated there flow again (the bundle of energy was stated by katara in book 3 when she tried to heal aang's scar) to reopen his chakra point, and this is exactly what happened in his fight with ozai. Now even if we don't consider any of this....just the fact that aang wasn't able to tap into his avatar state for almost an entire season was way bigger of a consequence than what korra had to deal with here!

I'm not sure if this was ever confirmed but there's a very popular theory that Korra was about to commit suicide by jumping off the cliff at the end. You see her tear fall off the cliff, meaning she was looking over it and was likely contemplating jumping. Then Aang appears and talks about our lowest moment, which suicide is as low as you can get. Her whole life was dedicated to being the Avatar and trying to help the world, that was all she wanted. She felt if she wasn't able to be a fully realized Avatar, that she'd failed and that killing herself and allowing a fully capable Avatar to be born would be better for the world.

Respectfully i disagree with yall stance on the ending. Yea they could have left it openended and on a cliffhanger but many times people always press onward for an answer so concluding the story like this fits. Even if its rushed. With korra getting her bending back, aang got the ability to bend people powers from the lion turtle. They both came unexpectedly and with no real foreshadowing leading up to that point. Aang had just left from the group, learned that skill by talking to past avatars and lion turtle and then used it on the fire lord. Korra left her group, learned it by talking to aang and then used it. They both were very similarly used in it being what changes the “stakes” of the last battle but i dont think its bad enough to ruin season 1. Korra also only showed this ability once she tapped into the avatar state so without that connection to aang, she maybe wouldnt have ever figured it out. The lion turtles showed aang and he showed korra. I think they honestly did a good job tying all the loose ends at the end while also rushing and making it make sense narratively

I don't follow how people think Korra getting her bending back would work. She didn't "forget" how to bend, it was forcefully taken away from her. We probably would have ended up with a full season of Tenzin trying to guide her through meditation to unlock her chakras and her complaining about how much she hates it the whole time. Personally I would have hated that.

I understand how it is disappointing from a story telling standpoint to essentially realize the stakes weren't as high as expected but I think its still realistic... I mean we saw Aang take away bending so its reasonably safe to assume he can also restore it, and as for the stakes, Amon miscalculated the power of the Avatar and let her live... In order for Amon to have truly been a threat he would've had to kill Korra... Its not that there weren't any possible stakes, its just that Amon didn't take it to the level needed to where it would actually be considered high stakes... Also a rock literally gave Aang his avatar state back so I'm fine with it 💀

The creators were screwed by Nickelodeon, we all know they can write great stories as we saw with ATLA, but Nick told them they only had one (rushed) season, and only when it was ending the studio gave them another one. And the same thing happened in season 2, it was only at the end when they gave them two more seasons with more time and more freedom, and everyone agrees that those 2 last seasons are the best of the bunch. (And even then they were screwed again, making most of Book 4 digital only, not even airing it on the channel)

Can someone please tell me how Korra broke out of the second most powerful bloodbender's grip without the avatar state? It makes no sense, especially since Amon is a psychic bloodblender meaning he doesn't need to hands to bend and solely needs to be conscious (and of course the moon spirit needing to be alive). Katara didn't even have that level of skill as she needed the full moon to bloodbend at all and I think it's easy to agree Korra and Katara at around this young age would outclass especially since she doesn't have the avatar state before Aang appeared after the showing of Amon and Tarrlok's deaths.

Okay, so everyone has now to the end of time mentioned about how Nickelodeon screwed the creators with each season and everything, and you guys have mentioned it in some of your post-episode comment as well. But just to add some context to all that, since we know the situation that this series was created on, it might help to view each season as its own mini-series basically. The fact that there are more seasons doesn't mean it is a direct continuation from the previous. Some elements carry over, but there is a new villian with new challenges each season. If you view each season like that, instead of in the same light as ATLA (there was 1 big bad villian the entire series), then people might be less harsh on LoK.

I get why you’re disappointed about the ending (I think I was too at first) but to me (now) it makes the most sense. Aang didn’t learn Chi/Spirit bending, it was given to him by the Lion Turtle and nobody complained about that. If he can take someone’s bending away then surely he can give it back. It just makes sense. And Korra can’t relearn all the elements cause she’s already mastered them - she knows the techniques, poses, movements, etc. Her chakras are just blocked and we can’t watch 3 seasons of her unblocking them. But I understand your frustration. My only problem is the Avatar State thing cause Aang didn’t master that until the end of his series and Korra was just given the mastery by Aang. Now that’s unfair
