The setting really doesn't lend itself to any good stories. "X want's to take over the Sea of Thieves" or "Y betrayed us and now he's evil!!!" is about the best you can do because there's no lore to this game besides a couple vague factions that stand still in place for all of eternity and some random characters that warp around from time to time.

@@XxMeatShakexX Lore is not a synonym for story, saying SoT doesn't have lore is catagorically false, lore is the background details, the history and important events, often not directly told to you but exists to flesh out the world, STORY is what is happening right now, Story is current events Lore is history and world building, lore can serve to become relevant in the current day story but it doesn't solely exist for that, ignoring that there is a difference between lore and story is how you get hour long monologues about the worlds history.

As someone who’s wanted a PVE mode, this is more then perfect, I just like sailing around and hanging out with my friends, most of the time we fuck around and don’t get anything done anyways so I see this as an absolute win for me

Honestly, I want those alliance servers not so much for farming but because I like working with other crews. Back in the earlier days, I had much more luck finding people who were chill about it, but nowadays, if I approach another boat, 90% of the time I get shot in the head as I wave to them and then have to deal with them just spawn camping the ship without even sinking it. I don't mind pvp'ing, but I also want the option to just sail around with other crews on occasion, ya know?

90% of crews you encounter spawn camp you? For some reason I don’t buy it. Regardless, there are plenty of ways to approach players that don’t come off as aggressive and in MY personal findings, it’s a pretty close split between hostile and non hostile. Doesn’t mean the non hostile crews want to work with me (and I’ll probably betray them if they do), but if you don’t give another crew the opportunity to kill you and board your ship then most people are willing to at least talk… again, in my own experience

As a solo slooper, all I'm seeing with this season is that October is not for me (anyway, i'm tired of Rare's "the same grind, but under a different name !" new features), November is not for me (with the current speed balancing, RIP sloops), and December is not for me either (except, maybe, if I want to finish grinding Skelly forts in safer seas). In short, once the next Monkey Island TT is done, not much to do...

So for all the time we had to wait we have 1 world event which is basically reaper chests but longer. Another type of grind that will be made easier after a month of release and a mode for casuals. I’m definitely going to play again. So much new stuff.

@@infinitypeaches3329 This is the point I always bring up to people hard riding Rare and deflecting any point of valid criticism. All Year 1 updates that each added new things to do came out within 1~2 months of each other and the dev team was much smaller back then. Granted yes, I think there are a few things at play within Rare that are causing these major time gaps for relatively lackluster features. The first being that a potential large amount of the Rare dev team has been shifted to work on Everwild, putting SoT on the backburner since it is now 5 years old. The second being that the game and any potential future updates are being impacted by the continued support of the game on the original Xbox One console. The Xbox One came out a decade ago and the performance and optimization problems in SoT are largely caused by the fact that the game still has to support the decade old brick. These problems aside, Rare has no excuse for being largely radio silent between content updates and the content within those updates being mostly nothing burgers.

The thing about guilds.. is that it feels more like.. side content? It does not bring any new *activities* to do, into the sandbox. Unlike the Skull of Sirens Song but.. what do we get, other than.. more gold? This is probably a good addition but - if it only gives gold, it seems like a hassle? Since people will be hunting down your crippled ship. I hope the best for the game and it's longevity but I am not optimistic right now for this season.

Guilds feels like just an extension of captaincy, new menu thingy and that's it. Oh i also forgot about new cosmetic for earning milestone in a guild but everyone will forget about them so yea... that's about it.

Petition to add this to the game Since the seperate servers are gonna fill the high seas with sweatlords and safe seas well.. people minding their own bussiness to actually combine both of them and to relax and chat with people turning sea dogs tavern to an actual tavern would be a pretty nice idea ngl (with PVP closed) it could be a 3rd option in server selecting like [High Seas] [Safe Seas] [The Tavern] so it will teleport u a full tavern just like old arena days or you could actually sail there to find people in your server and with that addition maybe they will add EATING / DRINKING GROG WHILE SITTING OR USING EQUIPMENT

I do not see this season changing much on the seas. Even in november when they release the new skull activity I just do not think it will change much. The sandbox is empty and rarely a fight happens. Fights have all gone to hourglass. In my opinion if you want to spice things up add more ships to a server. Maybe like the high seas and safe seas make a higher seas that adds more ships onto a server and gold rewards are 130-150% more and no alliances can be formed.

I was so confused when I saw the preview showcase Briggsy being the one to appear on your ship for the Skull Of Siren's Song voyage. Didn't we see her go off with Aramanta in the last Adventure? Is she free to pop out of wherever they took her just to introduce us to a voyage? Maybe the skull is actually the Siren Queen's and her eventual death has more to it than we originally believed. U can get the pink flame without PvP, thats why. The trick is that your crewmate needs to kill u with a gunpowder barrel. But it's important, that the crewmate leaves before the gunpowder explodes.

I am not the one who likes to say this... I have been putting it off for months. But I think the game is getting out of hands. Delays, robust but boring and useless systems, a lot of bad live events, half baked ideas, bugs, etc etc. It feels like the numbers for the game arent meeting the demands they need, and try to make people get invested too much, making the game a mess. The once special and fun game is starting to turn into a really messy AAA game just like every other. But I will still be positive for the game till they stop supporting it. But something very much has to change.

even if people complain about money grinding in the safer seas mode it will take 3.3x longer to get any money in that mode for example it took me 1 hour to get like 30k (including collecting reaper bounty chest) with no emissary now take away 10k for the chest and that is still about 20k in 45 minutes imagine how much longer it will take to make that much in safer seas with no emissary bonus, no alliance bs, and just doing quests and stuff for 3+ hours to make the same amount of money it is not really worth it if you want to money grind. also the fact there are no captain ships and guilds in this mode you wont get those meaningless numbers up either.

this season update is easily the worst of like all the seasons so far. extremely underwhelming. guilds are just stupid as they are done here. imagine having an own sea fort, where you can spend money on to decorate it. meet with all your guild members. having like 6 ships outside to just have fun. and then create an PVE instance with your guild to just have fun in the world. imagine having fun with your friends. rare be like: nah. that would be too much fun.

Safer Seas will prepare players for High Seas the same way the Call of Duty campaign prepares players for Call of Duty Multiplayer. In essence, it won't.

Tall Tales are great, but when the whole nature of SoT is that there are other pirates out to get you, are TTs really in keeping with that? I've always enjoyed the extra dimension of having to safeguard your ship. And to be sure, during a TT, you won't lose much of anything if you get sunk. It's not like there's a lot of treasure in them. In any case, I think SoT suffers from a little bit of schizophrenia... is it about fighting other pirates? Is it about lore and Tall Tales? Is it about competition or is it about making friends? It is so difficult to try to do all of those things, and the game's popularity is waning because of that. FWIW, I have a list as long as my arm of how I would have envisioned SoT... I just hope the devs can revive the game. Sadly, I doubt they can at this point.

I'll be honest. I kind of hope the guilds come with a feature that allow them to start their own server under the guilds name. A server where a guild can gather in and it is kept open for others to enter it with a warning it is under said guild's 'territory'. If something like that could be implemented, it would really make the guild function so much more fun. After all, the safer seas feature we got coming up shows they seem to be open to more custom versions of the world for different players. Just my thoughts.

It's closer to 90% reduction because you can't rise emissary flags, and it's still worth it IMO. Gold is pretty much useless anyway, the only thing I would spend it for (capitaned ships) are disabled in Safer Sea.
