"Joevia comes first". Absolutely the right decision by the trainer. Feel so bad for the owner and trainer but the right call was made. Good luck to Joevia and his connections going forward!

Bob Baffert had American Pharoah, who is a horse that has already brought so many people to racing. He was an exceptional racehorse and is starting off his stud career at an amazing rate. He's already got three foals out of his first crop going to the Breeders' Cup, which is a huge accomplishment for any stallion.

I bet that blacksmith that messed up with the shoe, will never shoe a top horse again. That call from the connections to the blacksmith, it would have been interesting to have heard that. The Sacco family seems like nice people. Hopefully, Joevia can run next season. Baffert might regret taking Smith off McKinzie. Mckinzie is a very good horse but not great.

Most people answer with “Secretariat” because of the movie and also the fact that he won the Belmont by 31 lengths. However, when I think of the best racehorse I’ve ever seen, Secretariat doesn’t come into my mind because his 31 length victory is no more impressive than Count Fleet’s 25 length victory in the 1943 Belmont Stakes. Whenever I think of a great racehorse that I have been lucky enough to see run, I think of horses such as Dr. Fager, Seattle Slew, Zenyatta, and two of Baffert’s horses, American Pharaoh and Arrogate.

@Fuzzy Wuzzy Do you realize how many Secretariat dames produced Grade 1 WINNERS...STORM CAT, A.P. INDY...etc. GREATEST HORSE means more than racing, its contribution to racing industry overall...imho !!

And furthermore, American Pharaoh was coming to the wire in the Belmont Stakes faster than Secretariat did. His overall win wasn’t as impressive, no, but nonetheless it is impressive that he was running faster in the final furlong than “the greatest race horse of all time.” Also, Secretariat himself was a complete utter failure at stud. Yes, he was good dam sire but that was it. The only decent offspring of his that I can recall ever being much of anything was Lady’s Secret... Seattle Slew produced MANY good offspring, however. Dr. Fager was a complete monster on the track as well, he’s called the original speed demon, but that was before horse racing was as recognized as it was by the time Secretariat stepped onto the track in 1973 and had his Triple Crown races broadcasted on television. That small detail also plays a role in why people who are not all too familiar with horse racing immediately jump on the “Secretariat is the greatest racehorse of all time” bandwagon. I’m not in any way putting down Secretariat because as you mentioned, he set track records in all 3 Triple Crown races that are yet to be beaten and he was definitely a freak of nature but overall, in my honest opinion, he isn’t the greatest horse I’ve ever seen. After all, Secretariat’s complete record is 21: 16-3-1, Man O’ War’s complete record is 21: 20-1-0, Seattle Slew’s complete record is 17: 14-2-0, Zenyatta’s complete record is 20: 19-1-0, and so on and so forth.

And then you have the non-American racehorses to take into consideration too. Think of Winx, Frankel, Black Caviar, etc etc etc.
