I think the way to use drones vs manned aircraft is to not replace them, which is always the direction that discussion takes, but to use them to purposely seek them out and disable them. Whether its flying directly into the intake ports and taking out the engine/engines or targeting stabs and other vulnerable control surfaces. Imagine being on a run to drop some hate and out of no where 2 dozen $12 drones are flying directly at you. That has been very effective against tanks and surely that is in the future for manned aircraft as well.

The Classic has a very good rad alt system, it’s essential the same as the NG. The guy who lost his life was a colleague and was absolutely no idiot. I will say this about the last ditch roll before impact - it seemed commanded as it stopped at around 45 degrees; it doesn’t seem to be a secondary effect of a stall. Maybe the crew avoided a property to avoid further loss of life. Lots of conjecture and speculation. Eagerly awaiting the report. RIP.

I’ve flown this route in a 734 too but different operator. As you say there is a radalt, GPS jamming or incorrect px setting wouldn’t affect the ILS, etc. It’s very strange how the aircraft , according to ADSB data, seemed to go from a stable approach with 800fpm to all of a sudden 2000fpm. Stab trim actuator failure? Heavy icing? Who knows but hopefully we can all learn something important, in the meantime as you also say we just feel awful for all involved. “There but for the grace of god go I”, indeed.

Ukraine had nukes after cold war and gave them back in a treaty that Russia signed that said Russia will never invade Ukraine. That's the ONLY reason why Ukraine gave up their nukes. WHY, is it okay for Russia to strike deep within Ukraine with weapons from Iran and China but Ukraine cannot do the same with NATO supplied weapons??? Hypocritical if you ask me, and cowardice I'm not pro war but I'm also not backing down to a bully.

No actually, we didn't. The agreement that former Sec. Of State James Baker and former NATO General Secretary made were verbal only and did include a reunified Germany. The Warsaw Pact Nations were yet to gain their independence and that is why this agreement was only done ORALLY, and not as a WRITTEN TREATY. ...So, we didn't break any legal agreement, just orally made one......Second, Russia has repeatedly broken ACTUAL Wrtitten Treaties involving the START treaties. Finally, again, Russia violated a WRITTEN Treaty that involved Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons to Russia in exchange for the legally binding agreement that Russia would never invade Ukraine... My take on the F-35/Musk topic is the following. Like Mover said, if you want a drone fighter fleet you have to go for AI piloting. The linked network thing will work most of the time but against Russia and China you cannot be sure it will. (Anti-satellite weapons for instance) So you end up saying to AI, go there and bomb things that make sense, perhaps even nuke things. Good idea? Some could argue “it’s war, who cares” (and a few countries like North Korea will think that way) but could the US afford this kind of “ethics”. Perhaps if the US is on its own, definitely not if they are fighting in a coalition with westerners. For me, a Human-in-the-loop is the only reliable and acceptable solution right now. But we can discus how many fighter pilots per drone fighters...

First off, Elon is not a "genius". Secondly, Stargate had an episode where there were two warring factions on a planet and they fought with unmanned aircraft that they controlled from a sim cockpit kind of thing. They would basically launch a fleet of them each day and fight it out and lose aircraft and then do it all over again. It was an interesting concept at the time and since then we've seen the evolution of RPAs and now the little ones used in Ukraine conflict, it's becoming more of a real thing.

@samuraidriver4x416 күн бұрын
1000's of small "drones" (multicopters) sound great until you think of the amount of drawbacks. A cloud of those have a limited flight time and ceiling. So you need them in place and they can't operate at higher altitudes. Besides that there is the limitation of moving them around effectively to intercept a fighter.
@pogo114016 күн бұрын
@TR4Ajim small drones are not a threat to any combat aircraft except if the aircraft sucks one into its engine. The max speed of those small drones are barely above the stall speed of any fast jet. If needed you just use ecm jammer and the AESA radars to fry the electronics of every drone within 2-5 miles of the jet.

I really think Elon Musk has a point about the future of fighter jets being pilotless. I mean, think about how AI has already shown it can outdo some of the best human pilots in games like DCS. It's like, with AI, you've got this 360-degree view all the time, thanks to all those fancy cameras and sensors, way better than anything a human eye could do. And with Musk's experience from Tesla's self-driving cars and his AI work at xAI, he's seen how AI can make decisions at lightning speed. It makes sense, right? No human pilot means no risk to life, cheaper operations, and you can push the aircraft to do things a human body just can't handle. It's clear where the future's heading with this tech.
