FAV TOXIC COUPLE 🤪 You hit the nail on the head with why Shigure hates Kureno. He's obsessed with Akito and is super jealous that Kureno stays close to her. Which Akito forces him to because Kureno's bond broke. Kinda sad because when they were younger Kureno looked up to Shigure a lot. I'm not sure if it's explicitly explained but Akito dislikes Rin because of how similar she looks to Ren (even their names are similar).

aside from jealousy, kureno is also like this annoying obstacle in the way of shigure's plans to free akito from the zodiac bond. imagine loving this girl so much but you cannot truly be with her because you both are unnaturally bonded by the curse. then when a sliver of hope appeared (kureno's curse breaking), instead of kureno walking away, he stayed with akito anyways, further encouraging her delusions that all of them are hers and she could do whatever she wanted with them. AND on top of that, akito started sleeping with him to keep him close. if i was shigure, i would do way worse than sleeping with her mom lmao

Ren's introduction really brings such an interesting dynamic. Cause her presence alone is enough to bring out "the crying child" that Akito really is, which makes us feel for her despite everything she's done so far. While of course, it doesn't justify any of the things she does, I do love how fruits basket can somehow make us sympathize with such a character who we've hated so much for the majority of the series.

We roll our eyes when Akito says that "everybody belongs to her", but she really believes that. When Akito says that she doesn't understand why Shigure is angry at her for sleeping with Kureno, she tells the truth. She really doesn't. She believes that all Zodiac members belong to her and live for her sake, because that is how she was brought up, there was simply no way for her to know otherwise and from whom? From her crazy mother that despised her? From her other non-existent parental figures? A very traditional and conservative environment in the Sohma family valued the fact that she was a god more than what kind of person she would grow up to be, so she learned to value her godhood above all else, as well. A normal person usually, when graced with power, has principles which allow them not to become corrupt by it. But she was graced with that power from her very birth, and there was no one to instill these principles in her. Shigure has always loved her, but to her he is still one of the Zodiac members, and even though she cares about him more than about any other member, in her mind he still belongs to her by default. She considers herself free to do what she wants and believes that he must accept it. For example, queens used to have many favourites in the past but none of those men could stop a queen if she chooses to alternate between her lovers despite their pride. Shigure is bitter. Bitter because her sleeping with Kureno deeply hurt him. Sleeping with Ren was not so much a rational decision, but an impulsive step that came from a place of hurt. But it is not only bitterness, he simply knows that she won't listen if he tells her outright some things: that he doesn't belong to her or that she has to be kinder to other Zodiac members. He is still one of the servants of the God, he has no authority over her, so she won't listen, just as she won't listen to Hatori or Kureno. And no amount of kindness will change that. So she has to go through this herself, she has to fall and make mistakes and through that, hopefully, realize what she has been missing all this time. And, as he said, he will be waiting for her on the other side.

You may see it as toxic but imagine being in love with someone you are spiritually connected to and knowing they share this same connection with others...Shigure wants to break the bonds to learn if his and Akito love for one another real and not, and hoping its Akito's need to feel connected to the zodiac members that made her possessive of Kureno and not romantic love...So Shigure played dirty, because its the only way he could win against a God he was born to obey...

did you notice that little scene where is shown all the figurines of the zodiacs (incluiding the cat of course) and the foto of Thorus mom, previously there also always the hat was there, because that showing all the most precious things she have, but now the hat is replace by the scarf because now that represent the care of the person she loves the most.

I don't know abt others bt Shigure is one of my fav character I can tell many reasons why Shigure's true intention is what we wanted from the start He is the most interesting character in FB (throughout the series I was like is he good? Is he bad?) Sometimes he is serious, sometime silly, sometime evil while other time being father figure to them Love his sense of humor and I appreciate his brain (he talks wise) He may flirt bt he didn't make it to action(like when Rin offered herself, he refused) He was being cupid for some couple Only one thing I didn't like was he slept with rin I like him as a fictional character definitely I won't prefer him irl

ren in this episode is just "heartbreaking: the worst person you know just made a really great point" she's objectively right that the love the zodiac feel toward akito is artificial, and that akito is driving them to hate her with her actions. but the fact that she's SUCH a horrible person using that truth as a knife to twist makes akito reject it entirely. akira and ren made her into a creature of black and white thinking, literally. "you were born to be loved" vs "you are unlovable and what love you do have is a lie". akito is a girl akito is a boy. she clings to akira, he cannot be wrong because if he was then that makes ren correct- there is no nuance. BUT she still lives ren's lie that she's a man despite herself just as she cant help but be afraid of being abandoned. and ren has similar stuff going on in the past, her own alienation from the clan and misogynist outlook being why she hates akito. its just the most recent link after link in the long chain of standing on the throats of others as a psychological crutch.

That's literally not what they did at all. A misunderstood villain is a character that either the narrative or characters tell you are right by the end, with Akito they explain her but never justify her at all. Tohru herself tells her she's a terrible person but she's willing to move on and try to be friends, most of the zodiac show up at the end to hear what she had to say but they never just come back to her most of them just leave, the only one who stays is Shigure because they have their whole thing going on.

​@@pancakemix8532 Plus spoilers They let us know it's okay to not forgive Akito, that it's okay if we can't move past their actions, due to how Rin reacts at the end Rin doesn't forgive, she can't, and by showing us this it's like the mangaka is letting us know that that's an understandable reaction as well for those that don't I forgave Akito by the end but I have come accross those that even after the ending weren't able to, and I like that the show itself tells us that's okay as well

More like "abuse tends to beget more abuse and can become generational". Statistics say abused children are about six times more likely to become abusers themselves than other people. Akito had a horrible upbringing. But she also made choices. She didn't get to choose the childhood she had but she definitely chose her adulthood. Understanding how things happened isn't the same thing as saying what happened didn't matter. It absolutely did, and the viewer, as well as all of Akito's victims, can make up their own minds about the possibility of forgiveness or redemption. Understanding her doesn't mean you have to forgive, and definitely doesn't mean you forget.
