Great arrangement and performance. Donovan's music was truly avant garde.

@ravensky23 Thank you for this video. The original Donovan song was strange and freaky, but the Strangelings recording (instrumentals, harmonies etc) make it the best recording of this song - - ever. Thank you for enjoying it - even 7 months ago. I also like their performance video - such crazy instruments. I've heard a lot of remakes of this song over the years the vast majority don't even come close to the original Donovan song. It is very seldom that the remake of a song is better than the original and this is one of those rare instances. I'll be seeking out more of the Stangelings stuff if it is this good. Great work guys.

Another great version of the spellbound song sung by so many, yes Donovan's studio version with Jimmy Page on lead, under rated, and Kooper's blues trio (lost names, hard night, yup) they made a subtle eerie version, this one has that same feel, maybe a bit too accessible, I love the song in the raw, unrehearsed and possessed, I've been conjured and allured by many a performance, won't make it to public focus, and maybe don't want to. My girlfriend back then (um-hum, I have been collecting years, and for the price of a piece of happy soul, you may have some, only to share though, these were hard earned years, an investment in my present condition, being wiser, although in disrepair, I value every moment, and always the best, shared.. connects us all), I digress, possibly to primordial, or even back so far, form was not yet en vogue, yet she was always looking just like Cleopatra in her short shorts (Bang!) or in her flowing white gown, Lisa, the High Priestess of the Wiccan one of the most honest and kindest people I ever knew, and I was 25, she was 34, so we had no barriers, I met with her local Coven, then some came for events, I was never excluded or treated so welcome anywhere else I sought to explore. The celebration of the Equinox and Solstice, very earthy and actually joyous, I guess Lisa's season was keeping me allured, conjured and loving. She was also the Class Validictorian (sp?) and a lot taller, smarter, more game than even I. It was blissful, yet the dawn kept beckoning, so no matter I've moved out CA many times, I always end up back in. I know a town of only those who are "witches and warlocks" (I guess that would be how we say it, or do we call it all, "Wiccan". No matter.), and I grew up around two roads yet nobody in town knew much or thought to go there, no chatter, no touristas, it was by its own design ...spellbound, and hidden in plain sight. One day, on the grounds where all the teachers and students study, she just sways on over in her very mini white summer dress, puts a hand on my face and lays on the biggest kiss. It was talk talk all around the U. how the leather man from the woods, could be so close to such a woman as Lisa. She seemed unapproachable. One day, we decided to tale over the arts mag at the U. and I took poetry editor, left her Chief, as she was vastly more qualified. She met me at the door out with a smile and a bottle of May Wine. Like D'Jin in the bottle, she seemed released the more we hung out. Our lit&arts mag won top awards, yet the brass wanted us out. People tend to enjoy taking on the Wiccan identity, that's ok, it's the net, everybody's everything, and yes, this is my actual name, and we call my lines just branches on the Dirty Tree (33 of us post and watch through my pass, a lot to misdirect the profilers, and most, like Lisa, will not come on otherwise.). What fruit may grow is often how one takes it all, mine is sweet! Always sweet! Lisa and her people regard that they owe the nature of this planet and the weave of existence a nourishment. Oft taken in err, due to all that Oz may show, (the good witches, ignored for the play of the flying monkeys and the crabby pointed hat, I want a flying monkey, we could make a baseball league! Cool!). If it is now the Season, then please tell Lisa, I am with her, could she wear her mini and kiss my... soul. Do we have to regard the calendar? " A Howling " Haunting visuals mixing into these slicing notes, the melancholy mouth harp, steady and severe...... blues wave into the forest here have you ever felt the need to howl out in the graveyard? Nah, me neither, howling just happens, like when you see your own name on the stone, and you come to know... is so much toil and taint, check your guns at the gate and come on in, I'll buy you a shot of yesterdays for the moments forth and the curtain falls too early, we say god bless you, answers back, “I don't take requests anymore.” Oh my I must panic and I don't know how to - it rises yes it rises no stains left where the body dropped and it rises yes it rises this monstrous urge to stop the clock, I look back and see my future there This gravel road spins out my tires Go so fast goes right past Have you howled into the night Have you howled at the wolf inside Then you know the undertow within It has a sound like metal railing It is a mix of joys and suffering It is a howling yes It is a howling. ~Tentatio mortis honore~ By RaVen DaWn The jam bound to the bayou, ghost opera in the overgrown forgotten cemetery, There deep in the dirt roads around the swamps of Jackson, the band plays on…

.Like with anything and everything Humans go to extremes a lot with regard to their religions. I've read an in depth study on the Salem Witch trials before, and it showed a lot about human frailty. Much of the same kind of ignorance happened to complex wise women with great knowledge of the earth and her plants. True, I think, some go off the deep end with their worship, but for the most part I am quite convinced those who the self-proclaimed righteous called witches did themselves and society more harm than good.

The harmonic interval they're using is based on the major second (it moves around a bit.) It's the same interval as you hear in train horns. And it's also - constructed the other way, the dominant seventh, the blues seventh. Yeah, and it sounds like both eh.

nicely done... the vocal double tracking works well.. it all works very well. my only suggestion would be this... try making the vocal delivery a little more husky. a little more smokey.. this delivery is faultless, the singer is wonderful, just for me, it seems a little too smooth.. i am being incredibly picky tho. all in all it is brilliant. one of, if not the, best cover of this tune i have ever heard.

Another day I may change my opinion, yet I will always favor the grind of the Donovan version, that Jimmy Page lead, really gives it a raw pulse, yet with the harmonic and eerie imagery in sound and sight, this is a fantastic mix. I see someone feels that judging is an error, yet we all do, when ever we decide which songs we may favor for the time we have. When time is tight (yeah, Booker T. Jones!) I may favor shorter songs, depending on my sometimes drastic tasks, I psych with special songs, ( Jimi , Tom Petty, some positive verse about challenges. ) Donovan is underrated. Never met him, seems like a great guy. I would love to bare the vocal of Gil Heron or Aida Victoria, (I should see if maybe...) although the crisp I think original Donovan version, still stands out, this is more a slow burning blues fuse, like the witchy dance covers of Paint It Black by Ciara and Marie, they stand on there own, almost as completely different songs, yet the originals are raw, gutsy, impact in tact, hits me like a wrecking ball. I so much agree dear Valerie, as a comparison, not a rating, so please excuse what petty things may be written, I think they just mean, everything and everyone is so unique, perhaps, we mortals make a rating or a contest out of everything. So you look like a "10". I guess that may be judgemental, to compliment someone on their beauty or an insight I may have missed, I guess we can no longer express, Valerie, there are buttons for it all! "LIKE" "ENJOYED" even "ETC..." and tiny cute emoji cats that hug with red heart shaped images, pretty awful when you've seen the movie TOURISTAS!!! My soul will find a way through this maze, I will slay the minotuars, critics, cynics, and most attorneys, many doctors, put our politicians in one sleeve jackets and watch laughing as we agree to let them sign their own checks, no toes now, and one sleeve fits all, I'm on a roll, uh- honor roll! I like something about your expression Valerie, so I layer down that maybe you will see what other would not go so far to reach for. Then again, is only worth the value of its Season. Thus I place this here for your amusement, maybe substantial, maybe just sunscreen to shield the silky skin from the soap and spin, we wash our brains, and strain the remains, yet the soul so eternal, and unbound, honors us with visions of truth, visions of dreams we can build, often just to see beyond the circus mirrors.
