Hopper is everything. I fall for this character since season 1. Hopper and Joyce are great parents. Eleven an Max are my favorite from the kids, plus Dustin. Will is a greaat actor. And don’t we all love Steve? He deserved better.

I have been waiting for weeks for them to notice about David Harbour being in both Black Widow and Stranger Things playing similar characters. It tickles me to see the Stranger Things and Black Widow reaction timeline finally catch up to each other. Last episode, I was told it happens this episode. I am very pleased at the reaction. I think aside from "Eleven's filler episode", S3 is the most polarizing thing in the show. People feel several ways about the characterization this season (im almost certain yall are gonna hate one character) and the overall tone. I enjoyed it, but it's definitely a ride.

I agree with boundaries, but the way that Hopper does it is just so wrong. He's basically using anger and deception against children. I can't believe there are some people that agree with how he dealt with it.
@alecLogan2 жыл бұрын
In the moment, they empathize more with Hopper because he has an understandable knee-jerk response, as opposed to Mike, who _also_ understandably feels comfortable needling Hopper, but is less ‘understandable’ because while we see where Hopper’s coming from, Mike doesn’t exactly have an end goal in annoying Hopper.
@lunavioleta0012 жыл бұрын
@@alecLogan But Mike doesn't matter. Not agreeing with Hoppers methods is not the same as being on Mike's side. Both are wrong in this. I would even agree with Hoppers calmly prohibiting El from dating until she's older. Again, Mike does not matter. He could of been any boy or girl. He should have the talk with both El and Mike or just El, but not Mike alone.
@alecLogan2 жыл бұрын
@@lunavioleta001 Except, _in their perception_ , Mike does matter, insomuch that he’s “more in the wrong” than Hop. Because we saw that Hopper was stressing about this _beforehand_ , it’s known this particular course of events isn’t something that regularly happens (him trying to talk to them and failing). We also see that he’s coming from a place of worry. By comparison, Mike comes across (remotely) as deserving/earning ‘this level’ of ire. Nobody’s expecting what’s coming next.
@lunavioleta0012 жыл бұрын
@@alecLogan But we watch the same show. My first thought wasn't "yeah, get that kid. So badass acting like a lunatic against a kid". Being the adult and El are more important. The problem here isn't that Mike is dating. The problem here, or at least supposed to be, is that El is dating. If El was a boy, he wouldn't do the same thing towards a girl that "he" would be dating. It is obvious that Hopper is acting like because he has serious trauma over the death of her daughter. But such behavior shouldn't be praised. It should be criticized and be sad that he's not getting the mental and emotional help he needs.
@alecLogan2 жыл бұрын
@@lunavioleta001 And, again, that’s a pragmatic reading of it. They’re not being pragmatic about it, instead “justifying” why Hopper should be in the right here, as to avoid saying “he should get therapy” (because everyone knows, fictional therapy either doesn’t do anything measurable, doesn’t _happen_ , or immediately ‘fixes’ things, which is not allowed when dimensional invaders are involved and communication is key). Again, mind, they aren’t expecting it to get worse, and instead partake in Hopper’s little (unnecessary) “victory,” hoping that should be all it amounts to. On episode 1 of a season.

Obviously how Mike was acting toward Hopper was disrespectful, and he needed to be disciplined, but you also have to remember that he’s a moody, sassy teenager that wants to spend every second of his time with his girlfriend. He was separated from El for a year because of Hopper as well. I still think he blames him to a degree for hiding her without telling him. I’m sure Hopper isn’t used to having to deal with raising a teen, but the way he handled the situation was awful. He’s supposed to be the adult in the situation but he was acting just as immature as Mike. He should’ve done what Joyce told him to do instead of threatening Mike, which was way over the top and is just going to create more problems. I’m sure Mike and El aren’t acting that differently to when Hopper was a teenager either, lol.

Out of the core 4 the best characters are Lucas and Dustin - they have the best character growth.
@Zukkaaa2 жыл бұрын
Eleven and will?
@frederickmiles88152 жыл бұрын
@@Zukkaaa I dont think Will and Mike have much growth after season 2, they become one note and accessories. Eleven is basically a super hero, therefore her growth settles around her powers vs finding her place in the world - which is limited in story telling such as this - but can progress slowly as a hero's journey. While both Lucas and Dustin constantly evolve through each season - their development is constantly being shaped and not reliant on their core group interactions for their character growth. In season 1 I was a fan of either, they were bland, but through each season based on their own journeys and challenges they keep evolving and growing. Similar to like Steve's character - the reason why the character works is due to his constant growth for the good that can always act as a strong 'b' storyline that is often more rewarding then the 'a' core group storyline.

Large segments of the Black community don’t rock with ST for various reasons (as a Black person I personally don’t agree with several points but wholeheartedly agree with others fyi). With that being said, they did the Sinclairs dirty. Especially considering it’s an ensemble cast where they are the only Black characters. The introduction to Lucas is him being “difficult” as the last to accept El when we know as the audience she’s innocent and with Erica she’s the sassy Black girl. I’m the same way and am harder on the Black characters but because I honestly feel like they got a raw deal, I’ll always defend them.
@YaBoyRockLee2 жыл бұрын
Yea. I just don’t wanna automatically like someone because their race is mine. It may sound silly ha. But ultimately i think over 4 season the Sinclairs were done well. Mike Nd Dustin have their flaws. Mike is rough. And crazy when El is involved and can just be mean. Dustin is sweet just his words can hurt. The sinclairs are smart, affluent, athletic. Not ghetto lol. I’ll take it. It’s the ghetto trope I’m generally tired of. Personally. I think Sandman and The Boys did well. The Boys gave us 2 Black Men. One to hate and One to love lol
@atypical12422 жыл бұрын
The problem is the introduction. Some people came around on them but that hurdle is way higher for a general audience with Black characters. It’s a weird implicit bias thing. Lucas has always been the least favorite of the main cast. Even Caleb himself had some mental difficulties dealing with it. I think that’s the part that irritates me. If it didn’t bother either actor I probably wouldn’t really care.

@@alecLogan yea but THINK ABOUT IN SEASON 1 IF THE PARENTS ACTUALLY KNEW, they would have Absolutely killed if they knew about 11 and guess what TED was the one who kept insisting “it can’t happen in our house we know our kids” Although YES he is wrong And obviously him and his wife don’t “exactly” have a good marriage, BUT he has absolutely Kept his family ( Mike and Nancy do their own thing) Out of trouble
@alecLogan2 жыл бұрын
@@Jermrants … Except, that’s the thing, he _doesn’t_ keep them out of trouble at all, blindly trusting everyone else to “be ok” and never even having the insight to know something’s wrong and try to talk to them. In this vein, he’s a patsy, who things _happen_ to turn out ‘alright’ for through _no_ active effort of his own. Like, the effective same thing could have happened if Mrs. Wheeler were a single, working mother like Joyce, excepting where Joyce has two kids she has three, and at least then one of them fully missing out on so much makes _sense_ .

The Russian plot line fully ruined the show
@alecLogan2 жыл бұрын
In what way? It was indicated to be coming up in each of the previous seasons (in 1, that El was being used to spy on em, in 2, that Murray had any idea about something along those lines). It’s not like it’s out of left field.
@downhill2k0132 жыл бұрын
@@alecLogan I have so many thoughts about this Russians in season 1 and 2 were excuses for the horrible acts committed by the us government, and a way for them to cover up anything that slips out (I.e. them telling the wheelers Parent’s that eleven is a Russian spy) A large point of season one and some of season two is criticizing the fact that the government does dangerous things in order to gain an edge in whatever battle they’re fighting, without caring about the effects it has on normal people. When you go and add cartoon supervillain Russians in Hawkins to the show, it’s kind of like “oh yeah all this horrible shit is kind of worth it because the Russians are really bad” which… really undercuts the original point of the show
@alecLogan2 жыл бұрын
@@downhill2k013 That’s not the justification at all, and you know it. The horrible shit that happened, was happenstance that _circled back_ on itself. Had the experiments not been done to begin with, the breach to the Upside Down would not have occurred at all. Had the breach not occurred at all, _most_ of the events of the series would not have happened concerning a breach between layers of reality. Had none of what _did_ happen taken place, the Russians would have no grounds to try (and succeed) in applying their tech in this area. It’s being done here because it’s been judged to have a better chance of working here, because… of previous breaching, yeah. The belabored point is more along the lines of “smart people do _really_ stupid things in the name of ‘results,’ and people who have no active desire to be directly involved wind up dealing with it” which continues to hold true.
