I used to swear by Spurt, Challenger, OK and Ready Go.... but, dammit, there's only ONE song that belongs in number 1 and that is XYZ. But you know what I really love about it? The credits. Most openings by Rika Matsumoto have her own name in the "Performed by" text. But XYZ says "Performed by *ASH* (voiced by Rika Matsumoto)". It makes you see the song not as a typical anime image song by the same seiyuu, but as "It's fucking Ash himself" The only other song that does this is High Touch, it says "Performed by ASH (voiced by Rika Matsumoto) and DAWN (voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi)", but that song is cute, not badass.

Analyzing an opening goes beyond liking the songs best. If it were a matter of only the song, I can say there are songs I like more than the XYZ one. But the thing is, an opening isn't only about the music, it's about being visually appealing, having a catchy theme and being able to create hype for the content of the show, the music and the visuals also have to mix well. XYZ definitely delivered those aspects more than all of the openings so far: it was pure eye candy, the song is super catchy and has a great build up, the music and the visuals have chemistry, and it is pouring with hype (too much for the show's not so well delivered conclusion of the XY gen). The staff has come a long way with their openings, their techniques were incredibly improved.

Absolutely agree. I like a lot of previous openings but XY&Z is my favorite, along with Saikou Everyday! For exactly the same reason.

Back then, they weren't as "hyper" as compared to the ones in the XY series. The English dub actually did so for Season 1 to 13, but followed the original in terms of tone by Season 14 for the openings.

Spurt and XYZ are #2 for amazing vocals and music, but Mezase Pokemon Master (especially the amazing 20th anniversary version) is the type of song that gets you pumped up for a Pokemon Journey and battles :D V Volt is one of my favorites as I played it while playing Pokemon X and it gave more feel into the game

+L&A Jones Pocket Monsters fansubs has a lot of Japanese episodes English subbed! They don't have every single one from every season, but if you just want to was Best Wishes and XY in its entirety Japanese then they have that. They have subs for other seasons too, but for the most part you'll have to stick with the English dub for any season pre-late Diamond and Pearl. Here's a link: pocketmonsters-fansubs.blogspot.com/ If you're fine with just dubs or you're looking for the dubs, Netflix and Hulu have some seasons but not all of them. The official Pokemon site and its app Pokemon TV has some episodes in rotation, so if you don't mind seeing the show out of order, you can do that!

It's sad that pokemon will go to something a lil weird and a Lot more kiddy in Sun/Moon season but hey...maybe it's just corny in the Z-dance and nothing else... After being serious in the last few seasons, I guess they decided to tone it down for the younger kids...=/
