When it comes to Seattle, it would be difficult to choose an individual artist who has been consistently hovering over the epicenter of what has defined the music scene in Seattle over the (gulp) almost 40 years. While we had met once before in a social setting, and, obviously came up in the same town surrounded by some of the same musicians, Matt has been such a musical force of nature from the very moment of his arrival in Seattle, and his trajectory ( to match his talent) so awe inspiring, that I certainly took a few deep breaths before pressing “enter” and thus sending him an unsolicited, and what amounts to a cold call of an Instagram email, inviting him to come down to The Moore and have a chat with us. He got back to me the same day and two weeks later, on Monday May 17th, at noon, we started out chat. A few minutes into our talk, we realized we were in a “not” recording studio. Which is our way of conveying that we experienced some technical difficulties that we had, thus far, been fortunate to enough to avoid. But this guest, Matt, on this day, was a confluence that we feel warrants a small bit of leniency on our usual ridged standard of technical brilliance and excellence. We wanted to make sure you all had a chance to hear every word that was shared. So we present this episode, flaws and all, with the utmost respect for the process, but even more so, for the content. Lastly it would be dishonest to not, at the very least, call to light, the enormity of the day Matt agreed to meet with us. Soundgarden played their last show on May 17th 2017. Somehow, this fact escaped me up until a very obvious point, in the final moments of our talk. For the life of me, I can’t decide if my ignorance was a positive or not. I don’t know what or how I would have been different having that conversation with that knowledge in the forefront of my mind. I’m a guy who tends to go in. If someone wants to go deep, I’m your guy. I just hope my failure to recognize how much must have been going on with Matt isn’t too glaring, after the fact. In hindsight, I hope our little dog and pony show was able to provide a necessary for Matt on this day. At worst as a temporary, get out of the house distraction on a day you would just as not be reminded of. At best, spending part of the remembering and sharing, some of your singular experiences conjuring music’s magical forces with one of the most magical to ever stand at the front of a stage.

It was pretty amazing to hear all of the stories from over the years. I'll bet he has so many more he could share. That last minute when the interview was over...it made me tear up. You can tell how much Chris is missed. What a sweet way to honor his memory.

Thanks so much for having Matt on the show, he is a real class act...all of his fans, but especially us lifelong Soundgarden fans love him as a musician and as a person more than he will ever know...that also goes for Ben and Kim. I'm assuming whoever from Seattle Today wrote the description to this video is a true empath( a blessing and a curse most of us musicians live with lol) ,it's absolutely beautiful and extremely touching, I completely felt everything you said..... And Matt's Diet Coke in this video, esp on this day, has more meaning than any other tribute to Chris ever could, it's like Chris is right there with him. The first time I just watched this interview I felt too much emotion for Matt and how he must have been feeling this day, so I couldn't fully concentrate, now I have to watch it again to really listen to the details! So many of our emotions are just still so strong for Chris and all that Matt, Kim, and Ben have been through together. I'm sure it was a good release for Matt to be able to talk to you guys to help get through the day, ...this was one of the most comfortably, candid interviews I've ever seen, just a few really nice people hanging out talking, great job guys. Glad you sent Matt that message!

Thanks for this. I liked getting to know a little about Matt from the PJ20 doc. He is so cool. I know people like to hate on him and go on and on about Dave Abruzzesse (sp?) should have never gotten kicked out, but I see now how Matt has stayed with Pearl Jam for so long. He just seems like an easy going guy, just drummin’ and chillin’ and not causing to many problems lol. That’s more Pearl Jam’s style.

These podcasts are awesome! Reminds me a bit of the Spud Goodman show, Bombshelter Videos with Bill Bored and also a little of Almost Live haha. Having been in bands and played drums since 1988 and growing up in the Seattle area it's so cool to hear from all you guys that are still around! I was a Soundgarden fan starting back in 9th grade. Louder than Love had just dropped! I just listened to the Joseph Arthur podcast with Barrett Martin last night... another couple of great dudes to have on the show that have Seattle musical connections..... Man the ending of this one gets ya. Glad you kept the tape rolling. 🙏🏼

Is that the Paramount or the Moore? They look similar. I saw many shows there from 1990-1993 until the media screwed everything up. I saw fIREHOSE here and Soundgarden, Nirvana, Tad, Gruntruck, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney and so many others. IMIJ was a great band that never got any run. The Sky Cries Mary was a great band that played a lot back then too. I saw Pearl Jam before they were called Pearl Jam at the OK Hotel, they called themselves Mookie Blaylock. Matt Cameron is a cool guy, really down to earth. Much like all the Seattle rock stars. They just remained themselves.
