@David Parker A proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID controller or three-term controller) is a control loop mechanism employing feedback that is widely used in industrial control systems and a variety of other applications requiring continuously modulated control. So most temp. controlled things are using PID of some sort.

i noticed that on the Solis, she turned the steam dial a little while the coffee was brewing, is that a hack to get the pressure down to 12 bar?

Is there much point other than for decoration on the Solis if it comes with pressurized baskets ? Surely the pressure guage is for checking your pressure in an unpressurized basket to help with your grind setting.

Yes. And the Bambino can as well. I stopped to consider Amazon ratings a lot of time ago ;-) Jokes apart, the suggestion is the same of SGC. If you need for an automatic way to make your coffee, choose Bambino. In the opposite side, if you want to invest in a new hobby and enjoy with your manuality of brewing coffee, choose for Barista Perfetta. For the second option, put the pressurized filter baskets into a drawer and forget them and choose for a quality grinder. I think you can find good options int the SCG shop.

Are they both solenoid valve machines ? Do they leave soupy pucks ?
@renodavid
@renodavid 4 жыл бұрын
Both have the three-way solenoid valve needed to give you a dry puck.👍
@Paolo1064
@Paolo1064 4 жыл бұрын
Based on my esperience it's very difficult to have dry puck with pressurized filter basket, while is quite easy with unpressurized one. Moreover it's easier with double cup filter basket than single cup. If you are annoyed by typical mess of soupy pucks, consider to use unpressurized double cup filter basket or eventually ESE pods could be a good compromise.

Bambino can preprogrammed pre-infusion time. Programmable brewing time. The drawbacks of Bambino are: no pressure gauge, no temp control, and no hot water.
@JesusGreenBL
@JesusGreenBL 3 жыл бұрын
Just a note that the Bambino Plus does dispense hot water. In the Breville version it's mentioned in the manual on page 13, in the Sage manual it's not there, but it works all the same, you put your steam wand in your cup, press the froth level adjustment button as well as the 1 cup button at the same time, and it'll start dispensing hot water into the cup.

@@sisdl15 I'm afraid I cannot say. I've owned a Delonghi, which is a weak and poor machine but OK for what it is and still works, the Breville which died fast, and now a Rancillio..My advice is buy a real machine, $1000 or so, and then just concentrate on the coffee itself. Cheers

@bigglyguy8429
@bigglyguy8429 3 жыл бұрын
@@sisdl15 They are both great machines but people tend to modify them to be better. If you just get the Silvia Pro then you've got 2 boilers, built-in PID and no real reason to ever upgrade. Alternatively there are a few others a bit cheaper that should serve you well. On the whole I love my Silvia, my only dislike is the gimped power switch that turns it off after 20 mins (European regs). So I use a WiFi smart switch and turn it on again a few minutes before I wander over to make coffee (or from the car when waiting at the lights near my house on the way home). Note I installed a huge water filter (cheaper than expected) in my garden to filter tap water before it reaches the kitchen, and then I run it through my normal filter still before it reaches the machine. That's probably me being a bit paranoid after my Breville died! I think it's worth it because now I play with different beans, different roasts, different temperatures (within 92 to 95C) and different processes. So a honey-process medium roast Colombian is a different beast from a light-roasted African washed bean. The Silvia just lets me do that, by being consistent without any fuss or messing with the machine. To me the coffee is the hobby, not the machine :)
