Do you think Boris and Pip will make it with the leading group?

Of course Boris will!

Well, Boris is on a mission but all the others as well. But if anyone of the group can catch up he will be the one. But I am sure we all would like to see Pip in his back 😅

Great description of the Southern Ocean carousel. 👍. Thanks. I have to say, your vids are so much more fluent and insightful than the official VG daily review, despite the fact that they are presumably better informed and resourced. Ok, you’re 5 hours later so have more thinking time but still, BRAVO FLORIAN. 🎉

Agreed - the official coverage is dull and doesn’t explain what might happen and the strategies and tactics that the skippers are considering

@@davidtydeman1434 It's just a brief commentary of the day's highlights. They don't usually go in-depth with their coverage. Basically a news report.

Vendée Globe official report is a journalist daily review made for people who don't know anything about sailing... This is actually much better

This was the BEST update, yet! Explaining how they will ride the weather fronts, once they are down in the Southern Ocean is so helpful. It's like the light went on for this lay-person! So freaking cool. Thank you so much! (I look forward to your daily updates, btw.... )

The variables for different weather systems as the race progresses is fascinating … great explanations in this video! In this last OR, Holcomb PRB had a 600 nm (I think … but it seemed insurmountable) lead in the southern ocean and then stalled and the rest caught up a bit even after “stopping” for various repairs. And 2020VG, Jeremy B with a very delayed start sailed through significantly different weather and then had a stellar southern ocean leg …. At any rate, it is a LONG race with so many variables and incredibly interesting to see how it all plays out! Thanks for the explanations and discussion!!!

Modern IMOCA ships are effectively storm riders. Just like a surfer would ride a wave, they ride storms.

Excellent description of what's going on. I think you just broke down a couple semesters of meteorology into only 15 minutes! Really appreciate the details. So it's now or never for the second pack skippers. "Dam the torpedoes, full speed ahead!!!" cheers from🎉 Las Vegas 🎉 Enjoying this far more than F1

In the video you spoke about some technical drawings and referred a video with more detailed insights. It would be super cool to have a Playlist on your channel with only videos with that kind of technical insights! Keep on going, you're doing a really good job!

How interesting. The success triad, "risk, reward, punishment" is never more present than in sailing. Thus the risk of sailing on the edge - 100% of the performance curve will determine the winner. It doesn't need explanation, sailing on the edge is risky. You plan on your boat surviving this punishment from the wind/waves. Thus IF the boat survives, and they make it to the low, the speeds will increase markedly without pushing to the limits of the boats ability to survive. That is the reward. This is a beautiful illustration of strategy that is present in every endeavor of life. There is always this triad in every worthy endeavor. Riches are made and lost. Reputations are made and lost, so on, and on and on. Every good strategic thinker understands this at least intuitively and is able to "ride the wave" with daring and skill. Excellent example of the success triad. Thank you!!

Nice breakdown on the current and upcoming weather systems the skippers need to stay competitive. As a side note, I always wondered how much more difficult it would be if the race was the other way around the world where the yachts would be sailing a lot more against the wind.

Isn’t it more earth rotation combined with heat from the sun during the day and cooling down in the night that is the major cause for weathersystems forming (maybe plus evaporation) ? can you point out a source for the „spacewind“ aka particles from the sund and cosmic radiation are a major influence here ?
@davidtydeman14345 сағат бұрын
I am a little confused- it is my understanding that low pressure areas are denser colder air, and high pressure was warmer less dense air. So the major difference is air temperature rather than solar winds

seems to me that without foils you can never win this race. True? Those foils are like turbo racecars competing against normally aspirated racecars
